Review summary

The cruise on the Valor was very nice.  Our dining room staff was exceptional, we were at table 416 in the Washington lower dining room.  We had Kittiyaporn for our main dining attendant and she was fantastic, great sense of humor.  The band was superb in the auditorium and the other times they played around the ship.  That is true entertainment.  We heard rumblings that Carnival was going to be doing away with their live bands and pipe in digital music.  THAT WOULD BE AWFUL.  Part of the fun on a cruise is meeting new people - bands and entertainers are part of the best people to meet on board.  The only bad thing on our trip was our bed was HORRIBLE.  The cabin steward tried to make it better by giving us a few more comforters to lay on top but we slept very badly.  We have never had this issue before on any other cruises we have ever taken, and that is 7 cruises.  The Valor definitely needs to replace their beds, at least the one in Room 7793.  The mattresses (2 twins pushed together) had definitely seen their better day and needed to be replaced.  Our TV was the old style and did not have a good picture at all.  It almost seemed like they forgot to update our room because the people we traveled with were right next door and their bed and TV were great!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food and dining staff were wonderful. Staff did a little show every evening which was entertaining. All entrees and desserts were marvelous.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Usually enough to do.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were great, juggler was good. Comedians are too vulgar. Not with the actual comedy but with saying the F*** word in almost every sentence. There is no need for that. You can still have adult comedy without so much cussing.

Children's Programs

Not applicable for us. Hardly any kids on our cruise.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Older ship but still in good shape.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Plenty of room for clothes storage however our bed was horrible (mattresses were worn out) and TV was old and did not have a good picture at all (old deep TV) not a flat style like our friends in the next room.

Ship tip

Take advantage of breakfast and lunch in the dining rooms if you can. Food is better than the Lido deck buffet. Water down your coffee by half because they make it really, really, really strong!

Ports of call

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas Did not visit port

Nice port for shopping.

Bridgetown, Barbados Did not visit port

Nice port.

Castries, St. Lucia Did not visit port

Beautiful from the boat but it was so humid that after walking around town for a few hours, we wanted to get back on the boat.

Basseterre, St. Kitts Did not visit port

This was our favorite. Took an open air bus/taxi around the island (not booked by Carnival). Only cost us $12.50 each for a 2 hour tour. Best deal of the trip!

Philipsburg, St. Maarten Did not visit port

This port is the absolute best for shopping!
