Review summary

This was our first Carnival Cruise. We had been on some more upscale cruises in the past and wanted to see what the difference was. Overall we were pleased with our experience, but could tell where Carnival cut corners to bring cruising in at a lower price. The biggest difference was in the quality and quantity of food.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was average in the dining room and often the portions were small. However, the wait staff would bring seconds if asked. We had the late dining and didn't have to deal with small children so the atmosphere was adult and quiet. The buffets had plentiful amounts of food and the pizza bar was excellent. If you are a foodie, this is not the cruise for you.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows in the theater were kind of boring. The comedy club had a couple of above average comedians, and the local bands around the ship were pretty good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff were friendly and helpful. The almost always said hello in the hallway.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was clean and the facilities were good. this is a very large ship and if you can't walk well it can be a burden. The layout was confusing at times and you can't get to certain areas on certain levels without changing decks and backtracking.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a balcony cabin on the 6th deck. The room and bathroom were a generous size for two people. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked VERY well. The balcony was a nice size and had two comfortable chairs.

Ports of call

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

5 out of 5
Progresso itself is not much of a port. The pier is 5 miles long and you need to take a cab into the town. You definitely need to go on an excursion at this port. We took the tour to Chitzen Itza and it was terrific.
Don't Miss: Chitzen Itza

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
This is a beautiful port with the downtown and other attractions very close. The beaches in Cozumel is nice, but the beaches on the mainland are breathtaking.

Pros: Stateroom

Cons: The food
