we were pleasantly surprised at cruise. Staff for the most part was very friendly and the ship was clean and nice. The comedy club needs additional seating - too many people were standing, including us

Celebration of Friendship by CelesteJardim

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The highlight of this cruise was spending time with three of my best friends.  The staff was wonderful --  the headwaiter Deddy and his helpers could not have been more accommodating...and great dancers.

There were a lot of "special" people and I felt it was horrible to make them walk around the gang plank.  They should have been boarded through a more convenient area.

Food was "ok" nothing special.

TOWELS AND DINNER by patricianalaska

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I HAVE CRUISED MANY TIMES. I WAS DISAPPOINTED ABOUT CHAIRS SAVED WITH TOWELS FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS AT A TIME. NOONE CARED TO REMOVE THEM SO OTHERS CAN SIT.                                                    YOUR ON TIME DINING IS VERY DIFFUCULT TO DEAL WITH. THE LINES WERE LONG AND AFTER THE LINE I WAITED AS MUCH AS 45 MIN. TO DINE. I WILL NOT CHOSE THIS AGAIN.                                                        PATRICIA NATALE

My Laptop was stolen fromt he room by mon2jan2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

My laptop was stolen from the room, even after the access to the room was with me and of course the room service. The laptop was in a bag tucked away inside a closet. I'm glad that other valuables were in locker and not outside like I leave in hotels.

Our room was so bad by zanelkaz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We paid for premium wifi and received no connection to our room. After days of battling with guest services we had no hot water in our room. They kept sending the plumber. He said it worked. The next morning there was nothing.

The cruise has wonderful staff and service. Food is also very good and clean.  Since we stayed in a room above the Liquid Lounge, it was very noisy with loud music until close to 2 AM. This was a problem and disturbed our sleep.  Otherwise, the cruise was very pleasant.  Thanks for the hard work!

Carnival Cruise by lisafontes1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Although we had some problems Carnival Guest Services as well as Cruise Only took care of them. The best part of the cruise is hard to say. It is all entertaining with so much to do and the islands are wonderful. If I had to say what my most favorite time was I would have to say we all looked forward to evening dining. Reason being, our servers were amazing! They were very kind, efficient, hospitable and friendly. Conversation was most interesting and enjoyable. They were very sincere in their friendship. I would highly recommend this ship and cruise.Love

Family 2016 Sunshine Cruise by monteleo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was nice.  The rooms were not so nice. We booked a balcony and an interior for the six of us.  I have been on many cruises before and booked the same way without any trouble.  We arrived to an interior room that smelled horrible of smoke.  My daughter has asthma and my son's girlfriend was recovering from bronchitis.  Needless to say I could not allow them to sleep in this room.  In fact it was causing me to get nauseous just being in it.  The second thing was the "trendelbed" it was a roll up cot with a 4 in mattress and springs poking through.  I would not even let my dog sleep on this!  I asked the housekeeper for another mattress to sleep on top of the roll up bed and we moved the girls into the balcony room to sleep.  It was extremely upsetting to crawl over 2 beds and almost kill yourself because we had to place 4 people in a tiny room because the interior room was inhabitable. My parents were in a balcony and my sister in another interior. Each of those rooms had trendlebeds which is crazy to think our room which needed the extra bed did not have a trendlebed!!!!  My daughter had to use her inhaler for coughing throughout the cruise just to prevent wheezing! Carnival brought in a "Ozone" cleaner each day which was somewhat effective as soon as it was done but as soon as we turned the air conditioner on the smoke smell was back.  We asked carnival to switch rooms but they stated none were available. The shower head fell off in this room and the drain was blocked the first time I took a shower in it.  Crazy to think your on vacation with all these problems.

Enough of the inside cabin issues. On to the dinners- They were fantastic.  Out service was fantastic!!! the dining room food was wonderful!!!

The buffet was good too!  I think Carnival really tries to make it good, but with so many people it is difficult. I loved the omelet station and the pizza station! The waiters in the lido deck dining were very nice too.

The cruise director was adorable and lovely!

The pool was always too crowded for me, the hot tubs were always too filled too. The chocolate station on one day was wonderful!

The guest service people were always grumpy! I kid you not the lines there were 1-hour waits.  I do have to compliment them though when I lost my cellphone and realized I set it down and forgot it, the guest service people had it safely within my 30 minutes of panic.

The comedian shows were overwhelmingly crowded on the last 3 nights.  It was frustrating to have to save seats and wait 30 minutes prior to the show to see it.

The first Comedian- "Happy" was my favorite!  Mike the comedian was not so funny but rather sarcastic.  Tony was very funny also.

The "Epic" show was absolutely my favorite.  Such talented people and well done. The 70's show was also wonderful.

The bartenders in the Blue iguana and Red Frog seemed like they did not like their job, there was so many people and it was non stop serving so I do get it.

I purchased a soda card and wine package as soon as I got on the ship and later found out that I got charge the "tax" on it because we were not in international waters.  Crazy!!!

I must say when I asked for a soda I got a glass full of ice and a bit of soda, then I asked for the can and some ice in a glass and was told several times that Carnival is not allowed to do that, so they then gave me 2 glasses one of ice and one of soda.

Room service was great for the times my kids wanted to have some cookies or a sandwich before bed and not go to the buffet.  It was quick and fresh.

The pictures taken on my cruise are excellent and I will enjoy them forever.  I did spend $220.00 on them but I also got the jump drive to be able to share them with family.

My sister was promised on board ship credit and never got the total promised.

The ports of call:

Saun Juan- Why do we get off so late at night when most shops are closed?  It is a beautiful island but we got to port at 3pm and was able to get off around 3:30pm so daylight was so minimal plus where the ship docks is a little scary.

St. Thomas- We docked at 7am(no shops opened then)  Crazy right.  We had an excursion "Miniboat" which was excellent!  but never really got to see much of St. Thomas either as we had to be back by 2:30pm.

Grand Turk- So commercialized-  they allowed us off at 2pm and back on at 7pm, Marti Gra pool was so crowded I could not even see water in the pool!!! By the time I got to the beach all the spots were taken or reserved and people were smoking everywhere as the quarters on the beach were so tight I felt like a sardine in a can.  In the beach area the shallow water is not walkable without water shoes and the algae is all over the rocks so when you get up out of the water the algae is there.  The shops were fun and got a lot of souvenirs there but the onboarding process was a nightmare as the computer system went down and we had to wait in line just to get on for about an hour.

All in all the food was wonderful, the dining staff awesome, and the shows were memorable.  I do think a cruise was a fabulous way for my family to all get together and have fun as there was 20 of us on this cruise.  Carnival needs to consider having extra rooms for when unexpected issues occur as this could have made our cruise so much nicer.  Also I will consider getting a smoke free room as this is a medical concern to me and my family for future cruises.

Carnival Cruise Line Rating From July 20-July 28 by marieg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our waitress in the Sunset Restearuant was amazing. Her name was Corazon and she was just the most amazing person! She took such good care of my kids.  We had a group of 10 adults and 6 kids.  The kids always sat at their own table and we were next to them.  Corazon took such great care of them.  She would even cut all the kids food for them so we adults would not get up to do it.  She and her assistants were amazing.  Showing them magic tricks, stories, dances etc.  They were amazing especially Corazon.  I even cried on our last night when we had to leave.  Such an amazing person and a very valuable asset to your company!  I hope she knows how valued she was to our family!!

Family Fun by mkoala3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I traveled with 12 others with age ranges from 3-68.  There were a lot of activities such as trivia and shuffleboard that the family took advantage of.  The kids camp was okay in small spurts, but the kids were bored a lot of the time there.  The musical shows were good and weren't too long.  Dinner in the main dining room was really good most nights with a couple of nights of subpar food.  The lido food was average, but was quick!  Our stateroom team was great!  They were very pleasant and had the room ready in both the mornings and evening like clockwork. The kids loved the towel creations.  Some of the bartenders were great, but others took forever to greet you and make your drink.  Overall we had a great time and would cruise Carnival again.

Gold Card Holder by Cruises31

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I was disappointed in our Carnival Sunshine cruise. I am a Gold Card Holder and have been on several cruises with Carnival. This was by far the worst. I have never been to Guest Services so many times on a cruise in my life. I understand that things happen but when I went to Guest Services the reps were so rude and made you feel like you weren't important and did not help at all without attitude. Also, we were promised a "casino rate with casino credit" when I booked in January for a July cruise. I literally had to "fight" for the casino credit and NEVER got it even though I had the email stating that we were entitled to it. Back and forth between casino and guest services, each claiming that they "had nothing to do with it" and we should go speak to the other. I even called my travel agent and spoke to "Carnival" while I was on board, to no avail. The ONLY enjoyable crew we had were in the dining room. Raj and Non...you rock!! Thank you for making our dinners together the best times on the ship!

Awesome by dquirosi22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I really loved it all, the shows, the events, the shopping and the food. The staff was just great. They gave service with a smile a new meaning. I wish the raffles were run a little different. But over all a great experience. Planning on doing it again.

Fun by fam2016

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a party of 18 for my sister's 50th. We had a great time. I wasn't fond of the buffet food. Restaurant food was better. The drinks at certain bars was watered down. My bathroom had a musty smell but it was always cleaned. Other than that I would recommend it.

All About the Alchemy Baby! by derell1978

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This cruise was a way to connect with friends we made on a previous cruise. We had a hiccup at dinner the first night with the waiter and bad service, but that was resolved. We first experienced the Alchemy Bar last year on the Pride and were happy we did and this one was even better. Dario, Parviz and Ranko were great they were attentive engaging and professional. The food was good with the exception of room service. The Spa was a bit pricey as that was something we wanted to do while onboard. Puerto Rico was beautiful and Old San Juan was fun. We had a great job on St. Thomas and did the sky life to Paradise Point if you have a chance to do this make sure you order a Bushwhacker. Turks and Caicos was beautiful, but extremely hot so we didnt experience to much of it. Overall a great time, but Alchemy was the highlight of the trip.
