Review summary

The cruise ship was great as was food in the main restaurant, the crew were also very good and attentive at all times. I thought the food in the buffet Lido restaurant was not to my liking

Embarkation

1 out of 5
Embarkation was a complete shambles, the worst embarkation I have experienced in 18 cruises, we lined up at the time we were told to arrive and were told we had to to get rid of all water and plastic bottles immediately, which we did, but we were then forced to wait in the sun with no shade what so ever for the next 3 hours without any kind of drinks before we were able to get anywhere near boarding. this would have to be the worst embarkation of any cruise I ave ever been on. as a diabetic I was astounded at the lack of care by Carnival. I must say it clouded my entire view of how Carnival viewed its customers.. were told we had to get rid of all cans and bottled water bas soon as we lined up to boeard

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The main dining room was wonderful with some of the best food I have eaten across many cruise lines. However, the buffet left me cold. The choice was I am sure fine for the Americans on board but the largely deep-fried food offered was not what Australians would call to their taste. What was apparent was that the drinks were extremely expensive in fact more expensive than any other cruise line I have experienced with the 18 percent tax on every drink made it ridiculous. Most other cruise lines charge 15 percent. The price of bottles wine was way above what i have been charged on any other line. If Carnival expects to make major inroads into the Australian market they really do need to look at what they charge for alcohol. It was very noticeable as to how many people where drinking.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
As this was a reasonably long cruise the average age was quite high so the high energy activities were not really well attended.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Ships dancers and singers were very good and energetic. but personally I thought there were too many juggling and mentalist type acts. The singers though were wonderful.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
All the crew be they, waiters room stewards or whatever were wonderful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
All the areas were very well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin sin was very good and the beds were very comfortable.

Ship tip

check the very high cost of gratuities, alcohol and extremely high cost of excursions.

Did you find out what the problem was with boarding? Obviously something must have happened. Carnival doesn't try to torture diabetics. Probably a Customs issue so your grudge was misdirected. Also didn't know Australians don't eat fried foods.

Thanks for insulting Americans with the fried comment. It is not carnivals responsibility to feed and give you refreshments when you are in line. If the line was long you could have went next door to the queen Mary for food and water. Maybe plan a little better next time.
