Review summary

I selected this cruise as I was taking my children/grandchildren and thought it would offer the most activities for the varying age groups. Carnival has been a "fun" cruise in the past. The entertainment was the worst we've experienced. There wasn't much to do on the ship that was interesting. Unable to use main pool while spending two days at sea. Will likely not select Carnival for a future cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room was good, buffet was average tasting and not many options.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Unable to use pool two days because someone defecated in pool, children's programs for under 5 did not have many activities, not too many activities while at sea during the day.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Entertainment was repetative, singing and dancing 70s and 80s. Dr. Seuss for children is outdated. Every activity around lobby and pool was so loud it couldn't be enjoyed. Amateur magic show. Comedians were not funny.

JT1962, I think what you are seeing is not so much neglect by the cruise lines as unreasonable expectations of the reviewers. Yes West coast cruises are consistently more expensive than Florida cruises. People pay more so they expect more. In reality, the ships are smaller because the market is smaller. Smaller means older without the bells and whistles. Secret to a good time is low expectations. ...I assume the entertainers are as good or better though. A lot of the westcoast singers, comedians, etc are also working in Hollywood and just part time on ships.

We were just on the splendor in December and it was great. Would you rather have your kids get a bacterial infection if the pool wasn’t cleaned properly? We found the entertainment very satisfying. Lee the cruise director is the best in the fleet. Yes carnival is the bargain cruise line of the bunch, but the complaining is getting ridiculous. Your on vacation lighten up.

Then on Disney cruising is not for kids

Based on reviews I have seen, most of the cruise lines seem to neglect the quality of the ships and entertainment on the West Coast cruises.
