Review summary

Would love to do this same itinerary on this same ship again before it dry docks in Australia.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
surprisingly quick. We didn't get 'fast to the fun" so we toured the Queen Mary and by the time we got to the terminal it was time to board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Oswaldo was our main server in t he MDR, he knew our names and likes from night one. Very fast and efficient. The food was delicious except for one night I got the beef lasagna and it looked like a pile of Alpo. We tried the Pinnacle and were disappointed as the MDR had better selection sizes and it was included in the cost. The Pinnacle was too pricey for too little.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We swam in the pool by the waterslide which we did about 10 times. No lines, no crowds. The water was warm as bathwater. We watched "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Mama Mia 2" at the Dine and Dive which was really fun. On a chillier night they closed the retractable roof.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The list of things to do was super long, but mostly . just little trivia games and things like that. The Comedian show was a disappointment, the show in the theater was very ammateur at best. Our favorite was the violinists in the atrium. LOVED them every night.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
We could not get our daughter our of Camp Ocean. She wanted to be there ALL the time. She came back with fun crafts she made and would teach us games she'd learned. She made lots of friends and loved the counselors

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our steward Edy was so kind, always smiling and very good to service our room quickly, efficiently and it was a treat to come back to. Cute towel animals too. We had a very squeaky bathroom door and he had that fixed within . an hour on day one. All of the staff were very friendly and made the trip a pleasure. I loved the gals in the Spa, no pressure sales after a treatment, although they did try to upsale.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was immaculate first of all. Not one table was dirty for more than a minute after someone ate. They picked up every tiny thing before you would see it. the rooms were always kept very clean too. The ship is obviously older so there is some wear and tear on couches and the layout could be frustrating. We were ship forward and finding our MDR the Black Pearl was tricky. Also camp Ocean is on deck 10 aft, but you can't go straight there from the front. You had to take a different floor to go straight through and then find the elevator bank aft and get to deck 10.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved being Starboard as we could see the places we had visited on our way back. Loved the size of the room and the balcony. Although it was cozy, there seemed to be room for everything.

Ship tip

I was pleasantly surprised, don't buy into bad reviews.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Beautiful terminal with an efficient embarkation process. The Queen Mary was close enough to walk to and tour as well.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
Cabo is beautiful but very commercialized. High pressure sales as well. We did find a nice guy with a boat who took us around and left us at a beach and came back for us when he said for 30 bucks.

Mazatlan, Mexico

3 out of 5
Huge shipyard and the shopping and beaches too far. High pressure sales in the closer shops. Not enough people (including taxi's) take cards so have lots of cash.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
We did not do an excursion at any port and sometimes it works to find things to do and other times not. This time we walked across to 'LiverPool' which is a Mexican shopping mall and found someone who took us to a time share. We got free lunch, and a sarape (Mexican blanket) for our time. The hotel was beautiful. The port is just breathtaking. we had fun and if we were drinkers they had a free tequila tasting stop. They stopped in town where I got a message which was in a dingy local with a bait and switch price. I was mad about that but being Mexican I didn't feel unsafe. The overall experience of our tour was very pleasant and fun.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was smooth but long wait. The weather was awful so the boat rocked a lot and slowed down the process. hardly anything they can control though.
