Review summary

Overall the cruise was enjoyable. I would definitely take another cruise as the weather was perfect, the room was really nice, and our porter was on top of things. For the most part, the entertainment that we went to was good.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
I had heard so much about the food that I had high expectations. Several times when we went to the buffet, many of the dishes were empty thus leaving limited selection. There were long lines at both buffets all the time. Also, dining room had a beautiful table setting, but each item that was ordered was served on a separate plate so it was difficult to find room on the table for all the plates that came out. For instance, my chicken on one plate, potato on another, veggies on another, etc.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I didn't feel like there were enough activities to choose from if you weren't a drinker. There were plenty of lounges and bar areas, but not many activities to do otherwise. We attended the Thomas Kincade exhibit and the outdoor ice sculpting which were both enjoyable. The Souza Palooza breakfast was amazing.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Stage shows were good. Music was good. Cruise Director "Lee" was amazing and funny.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
One thing I would like to encourage is more "family" activities. We had our grandchildren and really the only thing for them to do was to go to the kids center. It was difficult for us to entertain them when mom and dad were off enjoying some alone time.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
For my first time cruising and all the hype around the service I was expecting, I felt that the people serving the food (especially at the pizza and sandwich places) were not very friendly or on top of things. The sandwich guy apparently had to wait until his tray was filled up before he could put the sandwiches in the oven which caused delay in getting your food. At one point, the guy making the pizzas took one out of the oven and cut it, and when he was putting it on the plate, he swung one piece in such a manner that all the toppings flew off the top of the pizza and all that was left was the bread, which he served to someone anyway. Not good! Our room steward was on top of things.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship definitely needs a face lift! The decor was 80's at best with lots of zebra/leopard design.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was perfect size for me and my 6' 7" husband!

Ship tip

Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this ship to my friends (unless I could guarantee that LEE (cruise director) would be on it.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
No excursions done here.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Not my favorite port. It would probably have been better if we had taken an excursion rather than walking along the pier. Too many vendors begging us to book an excursion with them and the vendors were all pretty much the same.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved it. We took a city tour and had an excellent tour guide (Milton). Loved seeing the old towns with cobblestone streets.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Loved it. Our family rented a van and spent the day exploring.
