Review summary

I've cruised with carnival multiple time and this was the worst one I've ever been on. My dad had a heart attack and so they made my parents get off the ship onto the island and left them at the hospital and then when they tried to fly to the next island to get back on the ship, the ship wouldn't contact the doctor back, they waited all day on a response and so they weren't able to get back on. They tried to kick my boyfriend and I off with my parents since we weren't 21 so we had to have someone sign as our uncle to stay on. They then moved us rooms to put us closer to them and they wouldn't let us stay in our original room, and the room they moved us into was a handicap room, is smelled like pee, there was mold in the back room, the toilet kept over flowing over night and during the day, the ac/heat in our room didn't work so we woke up sweating, there were little piece of paper in between the Celine and the wall to try and stop it from making noise and we have pictures of this all to prove it. This was on carnival splendor. They were trying to constantly reprint things around the ship and someone said they couldn't use their balcony because is was getting fixed and repainted and everything like 3 or 4 of the days. The tiles from the side of the pool were falling off and all over the ground. The golf course ate the balls on like hole 2 so there was like never any balls. The only good thing about the ship was the casino and our waiters Maria and Marsel, they did a fantastic job. Once my parents got off the ship I couldn't even buy anything on board because they didn't take cash and if I put it on my card they said it would go towards paying for the medical bill, so luckily some cruisers were kind enough to pay for my stuff and let me give them cash. Anyways I would not recommend the ship carnival splendor to anybody, and would definitely recommend getting carnival or travel insurance if you go because if something happens they will be in a hurry to get you off the ship but not even try to get you back on and you will have enormous bills.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffets weren't the best, the actual dinning was better, and my boyfriend wouldn't eat the pizzas because the didn't wear gloves

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Loved the comedy

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
There's a teen room but if you're 18 you're too old, you're considered an adult but the ship itself doesn't consider you and adult because they will kick you off if you aren't with someone 21 or older

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The guy that cleaned our room knew our names and our waitresses were amazing (Maria and Marsel)

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Room they switched us to was horrible, and in the dinning room there was a bunch of trash next to our booth and the wall. My boyfriend was holding onto the rail and got so much dust stuck to his hands

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
First cabin 2236 was good, then they switched us to a handicap one which was 1077 and that was aweful

Another troll story

Carnival would be foolish to let your father back on the ship after a heart attack.  Even if it was mild and the doctor released him.  Why would Carnival or any cruise line risk taking him back on?  My only question is why they let you stay on?  That was a huge mistake on their part.

I don't believe any of this. Your father is ill and you're more concerned about buying things on board and making other people pay for you, and playing mini golf. I'd be spastic if something happened to a family member, not worried about stupid golf balls and a hot room.

travelbugg3, she had a stranger on the ship sign for her as her uncle to stay on board. there were no actual family members with her. and personally i think the whole thing is a crock of ......!

Shelly............ read the Carnival web sit..... someone over 21 has to be in each cabin.  Carnival would have had the ability by the Cruise Contract to boot you and your B/F off the ship when they sent your father to the hospital.   Being under 21 you had no business in the Casino or drinking.

The person that lied to say he was your "uncle"  was very foolish to take on the liability of two children.  Shame on anybody that bought you drinks on the ship.

Your post shows your age and your lack of concern for your father.   After reading your review I can understand why your mother wanted you on the ship,  that way she could deal with your sick father and not your complaining.

A hospital would have issues discharge papers that could have been shown to the ships doctor at the next port when trying to get back on.

I wish the best for your parents and happy to hear dad is OK,  I hope mom and dad take a cruise for just the two of them to help relax and recover.

Oh my god I can not believe you are actually complaining about being inconvenienced you would need to get to a well a hospital ASAP and all you do is think about yourself...... you should be ashamed of yourself and I for one would not have sign to keep you on board you are just a spoiled brat and hopefully your dads ok and next time they leave you at home!!!!!

May I ask how old you are? I do appreciate it would cost money to fly more of you, that is a scenario I considered. Lesson learned - buy travel insurance. They would have paid for you all to stay together. What happened sucks, no doubt. But it's likely all cruise lines would have done the same thing as they should have - get a person having a heart attack to a hospital. If this experience upsets your family about cruising, don't think another cruise line will act differently, stay within the lower 48.

not credible.

Actually my parents wanted us to stay because it would be more money for them to fly us too thank you very much and they are mad about all of this, he is fine and his cardiologist said he's fine. My parents hated the cruise for the short while that they were on there, they were the ones that wanted me to write this, and he was cleared to get back on the ship :)‚

@sidavis1966 - i was surprised to discover gambling age on Carnival is 18. So the bad spelling, grammar and entitlement to stay & play fits the age bracket.

clferr    7 years ago

I mean seriously, look at all the misspelled words and grammar used. So if the father had a heart attack why would the ship make them get off? Dont you think they would have either been taken off at a port which had hospital facilities or they would have been airlifted off and if that happened im sure they weren't able to return to the ship. Me thinks someone is living in a fantasy world!!

lol exactly!!!!

Not 21, but loved the casino??

TNTGreen    7 years ago

You have some nerve... your dad has a heart attack and you're more concerned about your room being switched and your Sail and Sign Card not working. You're insensitive and Carnival did the right thing

LMG1988    7 years ago

Oh!!!! I didn't catch that the 'uncle' wasn't an uncle 😳😳 Oh, my...............

clferr    7 years ago

Funny how there is only one cruise listed and you have stated multiple times you have sailed. I'm sure if your father had a heart attack he would not have been released from the hospital and told to fly to next port. Something about this doesn't sound right and why would they allow you to even stay on board of you were under 21? Yeah, something isn't right!

mims56    7 years ago

Is this for real??

vmriverasr    7 years ago

Sorry to hear about your dad! But, I fully agree with Katievp, I am traveling soon with my wife and my daughter and her husband, it that happened to me I would hope they would stay back, if not for me, but her "mom"!!!!!

mmmcksm    7 years ago

So you conned a passenger into lying and saying he was a relative, they moved you to be close to the relative for compassion and they wouldn't let you buy trinkets and you think this was wrong. You cared so much for your parents you wouldn't stay with them. Glad you weren't on my ship. And be glad you hadn't asked me to lie, you wouldn't have liked my response.

LMG1988    7 years ago

I do hope your dad is doing well. As a mom, I have thought of different scenarios... I would send my kids back home with friend or relative. If a child had an incident, one of us would stay behind. I can see the frustration with the money & not being able to get anything. But the room... one needs to be close to another relative or friend. Luckily, y'all had one! & the ship had another room to move y'all in. & at least they are working on the ship... it is a ship, leaving the comfort of the states......... emergencies will not be handled the same.

twangster    7 years ago

I can understand why they wanted your dad in a proper hospital. The limited medical facilities on board are not designed to handle long term care of a heart attack victim but rather to try to keep them alive until they can be transported to a real hospital. Sounds like they did the right things. I also find it odd you stayed on the ship leaving your mother to deal with your dad lying in a hospital bed in a foreign country.

So your dad had a heart attack and you opted to continue your vacation?! And then complain about stuff! What a brat you must be! Why on earth would you not want to be with a sick parent? You do realize heart attacks can be deadly and you're concerned about shopping and moving rooms? No wonder the man had a heart attack!
