Review summary

This was my 6th Carnival cruise and most disappointing.  The service on this ship was terrible.  The ship appeared understaffed.  Food took a long time to get.  I stood in the pizza line for 45 minutes during the lunch hour and you literally had to wait for the pizzas to be cooked.  This area should have ben prepared for the lunch hours and had extra pizzas made.  The formal dining room was slow and the wait staff didn't know their customers well.  On past cruises, the waiter would have your drinks waiting for you.  In regards to the cabin service, on past cruises your bed was made within minutes of you leaving the room.  On this cruise, one of the days the bed wasn't made at all.  Beds were never turned down at night.  Again, the service in the entire ship was lacking and the food was the worst I ever had on a Carnival ship.  Best part about the cruise were the ports.  I will continue to cruise in the future but doubtful it will be with Carnival.  Carnival should not be cutting service on their cruises like they did this one or they are going to lose a lot of customers.

Well, I just got off the Splendor on Saturday and out of six days my room was made up 4 times total! When you pay $1000 or more for vacation plus added tips you expect the minimum, new towels etc. Lido buffet lines and Pizza and hamburger lines were 20-30 minutes. Dinner in dining room was hour tops with good food and great service. Ship is understaffed, don't even think about room service

It takes one second to turn your own bed down, good lord. I go on a cruise to have fun. As long as my bed is made and the towels are picked up and replaced, I'm good. Those poor people work their butts off. I pick up after myself just as I do at home.

Just came back on Splendor Sept 4 on a 8 days cruise. This is my 6th cruise on Carnival. It's it the worst service and I am very disappointed with the food. The staff is over worked and service is very slow. I have to agree that dinner will take 2 hrs. Carnival use to have free specialty teas like Earl Grey, English breakfast, etc. Now the only free tea is Lipton. The food is fairly blend. I was surprised that dining room now charges $20 for steak or lobsters. Carnival doesn't offer the chocolate mints they use to give on turn down service. I had a steak and the they definitely don't know how to cook a steak. As for a med rare, got a well done. I send the steak back and asked for rare. And I got what I asked for, med rare. Most likely it was sitting on the window for a while. Lack of staff. My room steward was good. Always had a fresh bucket of ice. The Indian food on the Lido deck was the best. Sandwich grill was a joke. There was only 1 staff working it and had to wait 35 mins to get a sandwich. Pizza line was pretty fast. Hamburger, hotdogs and fries was good. This week was the last day of the summer holidays for the kids, so the ship was with kids all over. Some not supervised. Drinks on the ship is quite watered down compared to those on shore. Second thoughts on going on another carnival cruse line. But carnival have the best itinerary. They do a great Mexican midnight buffet. Overall, I feel that Splendor is under staff and the staff is over worked, this not giving the guest good service. The food needs to be improve.

We just got off this ship today. We had turn down service every night, and our bed was made daily.

It's full of ghetto people and white trash, what do you expect? You get what you pay for.

uteruskilla    8 years ago

Well for me I got off the Legend in July out of Seattle going to Alaska this October going to be on the Splendor January 2017 on the Sunshine and in March 2017 on the Magic hoping to book another one on the Splendor for August 2017 all of them Carnival I am a believer you make your own FUN and don't expect everything to be perfect

I agree. The service was horrible and lines are too long. Ugh

You don't mind waiting and yes we are on vacation. But we're on their schedule. If our 6 pm dinner is complete at 8 you're missing scheduled shows. And forget about any shows if you have late dinner. Because of lack of help its now needed to line up an hour or more for comedy shows. We can't line up early if we're still eating dinner. Like my other post I'm a loyal carnival cruiser, it's different

I hear and respect everyone's opinion. However airport lines are long, restaurants many times have a long wait to be seated, doctors office always run behind and we ALL continue to visit these places. Waiting is part of life. Besides what's the rush your on vacation.

We are loyal carnival cruises, I'm the 1st to criticize any bad reviews. I have to agree the crew is way understaffed and really overworked. They can't keep up. We just accept the fact that dinners will be 2 hrs. Service will be slower. And lines will be longer. That's the new carnival,we will still cruise them based on price And itinerary

Only see one cruise ???

Dimccu I had no idea you needed to request morning and evening service on the beds. I have always had carnival do it for me without any requests. However I like my bed ready for bed so I will request it. Thank you for the heads up. Also I have been on several cruise lines and 3 have been with carnival and my husband has only taken carnival and we have always been happy.

As far as room steward my bed was made twice a day and i also requested that at all times i have ice in room which they did in fact i was so happy i left 50 extra for tip because of service

My wife and i have been on many cruises we were on splendor last january we had a great time food was great entertainment was great my only issue was with design of ship but that was my issue

freebase    8 years ago

I had a great time and was married on Splendor last may.

I was on splendor in May and my daughter just got off of this ship this past Saturday and neither one of us experienced any issues- to bad that you didn't have a great time...😔 as far as your bedding being turned down did you ask for morning or evening cabin service. This is something new that carnival is doing and if you don't ask for evening service then they won't turn bed down.

I've experienced a carnival implosion since 2006.

nancygal    8 years ago

Long lines and pizza on every ship I've ever been on, not limited to just Carnival

thekey    8 years ago

I had a similar experience they had a problem with crowd control. The lines for food in the lido lounge were too long and moved too slow
