Carnival Spirit

9 Night Mexican Riviera (San Diego Roundtrip)

Sail date: February 11, 2011

Ship: Carnival Spirit

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 13 years ago

Review summary

Spirit had very nice facilities, but some of the furniture is beginning to show it's age. Lots of activities are available. Staff was very friendly, helpful and engaging. The ship's time was not coordinated with all of the port's land time. This caused confusion in excursion times.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
small portions in the dining room. selection and variety was good

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I liked the choices of adult and general content shows for families. There was something for everyone. I could not stay in the Sport Bar as I wished because of the very strong tobacco smells of the entire area.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
The younger cruisers seemed to be well catered to and they were all busy having fun.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
very helpful and friendly

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
decor was great, layout was well thought out, public areas were kept very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our steward did a great job in keeping the cabin neat and clean. The toilet in my cabin seems to have a strong urine odor.

Ports of call

La Paz, Mexico

3 out of 5
We did not get out of the tourist zone so we did not get the full benefit of this port.

Ensenada, Mexico

3 out of 5
We did not get out of the tourist zone. I was just a typical Mexican tourist spot with "too much" competition for your drinking dollars on some of the corners.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
A must see is the water trip to the arches at lands end. Snorkeling allowed me to see at least 15 types of fish in a very small area at pelicans rock.
Don't Miss: Any water adventure

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
The canopy adventure was lots of fun. The event took longer than promised and we were the last two passengers boarding the ship. This was stressful for us. We missed the first run of the adventure.
Don't Miss: Canopy Adventures.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
We got the most pleasure out of visiting a neighboring village of La Noria. This town had the old, laid back atmosphere that we feel Mexico is really all about. It is not commercialized for tourists.

Pros: choice of ports and activities

Cons: drink pricing and policy and bad voice announcement system (bad speakers)
