Review summary

We have cruised with Carnival around 12 times. We booked this cruise because of price and length. Ship was OK. Great cruise director, Frankie. Carnival seems to have cut back on service, food, and quality of entertainment since we first started cruising with them 25 years ago. We think it is time for us to move on to a bit more upscale cruiselines.

Embarkation

Embarkation was not too bad other than waiting in line for 40 minutes past our scheduled embarkation time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Quality of main dining room food has slipped from previous years. Choices were not very exciting. Steak house was excellent. Supurb food and service. Brunches in main dining room were somewhat of a disappointment. Choices were limited compared to previous years. Fresh fruit plates weren't even an option on half the days! Buffets were crazy. Crowded full of food zombies who acted like they had never seen food before. Stay away!

Onboard Activities

We did not participated in Ship activities. Preferred quiet time in sun. The Serenity Deck needs to be larger. Deck chair hogs tied up all the loungers by 10 a.m. We were not able to use Serenity.

Entertainment

Stage shows were ok. Comedians at Punchliners were good.

Service and Staff

Room steward was attentive. Unfortunately Carnival only has cabin attended once a day. Our steward said he had 32 cabins to attend! Waiter at main dining room was professional and attentive although not very friendly.

Ship Quality

Ship showing some age. A little ragged in some places but overall in good shape. Once we learned our way around it was easy to get to various places around ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin was comfortable. HUGE balcony! At least twice as big as previous Carnival ship balconies we have had.

I think you will find that most cruise lines have made cutbacks. They are trying to recoup almost two years of losses from not sailing or having reduced capacity. Hopefully, in the near future the cruise lines will be able to get back to pre-pandemic perks and quality.

Thank you for your review. We are cruising her in November 2023. We just got back on the Horizon. Things have changed greatly between 1x cleaning in room to Food standards. We also had difficulty getting a chair on Sea days in the Serenity deck. I believe they need to institute a booking for two hour intervals to allow more to enjoy the deck. I have suggested this in survey. So Pandemic has affected the cruising and like everything else will take some time to work things out. We were just so happy to be back living life and everyone we spoke with was very nice happy and enjoying life. This may be the new normal as we heard many negative s from cruisers on other cruise lines…….

It is unfortunate that the times have changed! The cruise lines seem to all be raising costs and cutting back on services for all passengers. Sad to admit it ain’t what it used to be. 😢

Glad you enjoyed most of it. All cruise lines have made cutbacks since Covid. You may not find much better on other lines currently.
