Review summary

First I would like to say this was my first cruise on Carnival and after this experience I am reluctant to cruise with Carnival again for the following reason:

The stateroom accommodations were great, the room was comfortable and the housekeeping staff was really nice and friendly, but when it came to entering the room for cleaning, they would knock once and just open the door without giving us enough time to respond. They were really apologetic and offered to come back at a later time, However it happened several times over the course of the week so I guess it was a normal practice. I felt like I did not have any privacy in stateroom because you never knew what time they were coming to clean the rooms.

Some of the staff was rude and made my fiance and I felt as though we were more of a bother to them rather than making sure we had a great cruise experience. My first rude encounter was at the promenade coffee shop on deck 2. My fiancé and I stood at the counter waiting to be serviced, the woman working there made eye contact with us but continued talking and laughing with her coworkers and never offered to help, so we just walked away. When we went back a second time later that day to activate our bottomless bubbles, her demeanor again suggested that she did not want to assist us.

The dining room experience was marginal, the first day was great. Everyone was friendly and eager to serve us, but the second time the food and service wasn't that great. My fiance ordered the Southern Fried Chicken and didn't like it so I asked the waiter for the menu so that he could order something else. The waiter seemed irritated by our request to order a different dish but he brought us the menu, said "HERE" and walked away without giving us a chance to re-order. Another gentleman returned and waited on us for the rest of the evening. Despite our experience in the dinning hall, we had the opportunity to dine at two of the specialty restaurants, David's and the sushi restaurant. Our experience in both restaurants was exceptional! The staff in David's exceeded my expectations and the food was outstanding, I must say the dining experience in David's was the highlight of our entire cruise.

We took and purchased many of photos at Pixels and for the most part, we were satisfied with majority of the photographers and photos. One of the photographers, Mr. Ahkil took some amazing photos of the guests so my fiancé and I were excited about our photo session with him. Unfortunately, we later found out during our session that Mr. Ahkil was not as professional as we had hoped, instead we found his presentations to be very distasteful and offensive! At one point during our shoot, Mr. Ahkil instructed me to smile and concentrate on a designated focal point as if I was looking at a "big fat cheeseburger". How RUDE!! As a plus size woman, I was appalled and highly offended by his comment! I found it to be very inappropriate and unprofessional. My fiance' was highly offended as well. Needless to say, we became extremely uncomfortable and was unable to focus on our session. We did not purchase any of those photos.

We also visited the fun shops where we purchased some liquor which had to be picked up on the last day of the cruise. The prices were reasonable so we did not have any problems with spending. Unfortunately, when we got home and opened our boxes, we discovered that we did not get what we ordered even though our receipt clearly stated what was purchased. I would suggest people check their boxes the morning of debarkation but I am not sure if this would help with discrepancies since the shop is closed during that time.

Lastly, we spent time in the casino and that was fun but I would recommend they offer a smoking and non smoking section or have a balcony to allow air to circulate. There are machines that do not allow smoking but they are scattered throughout the casino mostly next to machines that do allow smoking so it would not matter where you sit the intense smell is overwhelming. If you are not a smoker you will not be comfortable in the casino for long periods of times.

My overall experience on Carnival was less than I expected. I've been on other cruise lines and this was by far my worst experience, I'm not sure if I would pay to cruise with Carnival again or recommend any family or friends.

some things to keep in mind, "stations" are opened and closed at set times. staff at times will be there ahead of schedule to make sure all the supplies are there. they normally don't interact as people feel they should be an exception and service them even if not open. All you have to do is say "Excuse me, is this station open?" They will answer you and if they are not open they will recommend another location to use. we have been on many cruises as well as land vacations as well. There are times when things don't always go as planned, however don't let one bad event eat at you and let it ruin everything else. could it be you were upset at one thing and you left it nag at you that they could do nothing right from that point on? You do have some people that shouldn't deal with the public directly, I grant you that, however, in the cruise industry most people don't realize those workers are on a six month to one year contract only. Their contract gets renewed if there have been limited to no complaints so these workers bust their asses to keep their contracts as they come from the poorest communities and they do not want to loose their job. these individuals work 16 hour shifts threw out the ship. They live in tight quarters, sharing the space with coworkers, and, on top of that they have to put up with vacationers ranting about how they should be treated and how they could do it better. Well, take one of these jobs for one cycle and you will learn to appreciate these individuals. if you feel you don't get good service don't go back to that station. inform customer service and let them know. just please make sure you have your facts right. And if you don't like our suggestions in the chain then please don't cruise again as I for one don't want to be on my vacation and have to hear you complaining the whole cruise! I would however suggest you try it again keeping in mind the kind suggestions offered to you to make your journey a much better one! Safe travels everyone... 4 more days for us!!! woot woot

I am sad that you had a bad time on Carnival. We are going on our 8th Carnival cruise in 9 years and have loved them all. If I were you, I wouldn't give up, after all, parts of your trip were good :)

O......M......G!!! If that was me at the coffee stand, I would NOT have hesitated to speak up. She definitely would have gotten a piece of my mind. Once at one of the bars it seemed like I was waiting there forever. The woman made eye contact with me so she knew I was there. Doesn't she wait on a GUY that got there after I did. Guess who spoke up and got waited on 1st. This girl, that's who!!!

We are going on Pride too nov.22, Todaysrun2

@ buloxie7 we have traveled many times on the Pride and in November we will be cruising for the first time on it since she was overhauled. we loved the Pride before and are sure she will be even better. Smoke smell at casino has always been a smell that was overwhelming so we tried to avoid it. I used to smoke and it was strong for even me and I am one that looks forward to the smoke smell as it brings back good memories. .. however for someone like my daughter who is asthmatic it was a nightmare. But you don't have to walk through the casino. It is my understanding they have greatly improved the ventilation/filtration of that area with the renovations. Due to health reasons we couldn't go last year, first time in many yesrs I had to cook for thanksgiving, so we are just beside ourselves counting down the days! Can't get here fast enough.

We were on the Pride 3 years ago, great time & no problems !

My first cruise is coming up in November and I am so stoked! It will be my first cruise since having a double brain surgery and I will be traveling with my mom, dad and sister.  I have heard nothing but good comments concerning the Pride so I will be sure to get an open mind!

Amen, Pebsmarie !

A cruise is all what you make of it. I have been on Carnival, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean and have never had a bad cruise. I have found that if you treat the staff/crew well and with respect, they will treat you the same way. I have seen many passengers be really rude to the crew. I love talking with the staff! A cruise is a week that I don't have to work, clean, cook, or make my bed :-)

I have has some minors problems of being ignored but nothing I couldn't handle by speaking up. If you lock your doors correctly you shouldn't be bothered. Carnival is my favorite inexpensive cruise line and have been on it 9 times. I've had more problems on NCL and RCI. I like Princess too.

gary1827    9 years ago

they have something called LOCKS...how about LOCKING your door. They have jobs to do. If you don't want their service then either LOCK the door or out a sign out there. if you let small things bother you on your vacation then you're going to have a bad attitude and a bad vacation. you make the best of a situation

That's good to know. Thank you both!

I am a non-smoker and the smoking in the casino didn't bother me.

skyerider    9 years ago

the casino has great air filtration systems on all of the ships I have been on. so unless you're sitting in the smoking section next to a smoker you probably won't smell smoke

fariedust913    9 years ago

I didn't know people could smoke INSIDE anywhere. The whole casino has to reek!!

Pebsmarie    9 years ago

We were on this ship in July and are going on it again this month. We have cruised with Carnival at least 20 times plus we have cruised on other cruise lines. We have never had a bad cruise, have enjoyed every cruise that we have been on. If you don't want them in your cabin, you put the do not disturb on the door. The cabin stewards and all of the crew have very long work days and work very hard

cubbiesfan    9 years ago

I'm sorry to hear your troubles. I've had no luck with their customer service. Good luck!

roofusjman    9 years ago

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the Pride. I have sailed this ship 3 time in the last 5 years and could only agree with the smoke.in the casino. I hope this won't be my experience on the Glory next weekend. Fingers crossed. Not!!!

ReneeF59    9 years ago

That is a bummer. I've never had a bad experience on Carnival. Regarding the room steward, I would have locked the deadbolt and or used the Do Not Disturb sign if you were in the cabin. I also think it is very important to report any discourteous service right away and I have found they go out of their way to fix things, make it right. Sorry it wasn't all you hoped.
