Review summary

Boarding process went smoothly, and our cabin was ready as we boarded.  This was the high point of this cruise.  Our cabin steward was also very good and efficient.  The cruise Director was the worst we have encountered in our 400+ days of cruising on multiple lines.  He insisted on volume levels that caused several of the more mature group, such as us, to walk out of shows.  He kept insisting that the sound man "turn up the volume".  All entertainment was directed at the "20 something" groups.  While our fixed late seating dining staff was exceptional, the service at open seating breakfast and brunch was awful.  Orders were incomplete, coffee refills were difficult, and one assistant waiter stated that bananas were only available on port days, while people in our party who ate at the buffet were served them without delay. Shipboard activities were often in error in the daily "FUN TIMES", and said we would arrive in Cozumel at 9am, when we were actually docking in Costa Maya.  Disembarkation was a disaster, after arriving several hours late, we were held aboard for an additional 2+ hours.  No more Carnival for us.

Ship tip

Be wary of anytime dining, as we saw people waiting to be seated on the upper DR level, while the set dining was only 75% or less occupied.

When the daily bulletin warns of armed robbery of tourists outside of the dock compound, perhaps this is not a suitable cruise port.
