Review summary

The only reason we took this cruise was the itinerary  which included Turks Island.  Before sailing from Baltimore  they announced the ship would not be going to Turks Island because of the threat of a hurricane.  Actually on Sunday it was a Tropical Storm over Turks which moved toward the Bahamas our new destination by Monday.  By Wednesday when we were supposed to arrive at Turks it had passed over the Bahamas and was headed for Bermuda. We were unhappy with the ports of Cape Canaveral and Nassau the last time we took this cruise and very disappointed by this switch.

We have taken about forty cruises in our lifetime and have taken only Cruises which do not involve flying due to health lately.

I have missed a lot of ports because of weather,  it is just part of cruising.......ship happens

I know how disappointed you were not being able to visit Grand Turk..  It is a nice port with pool, beach and shopping right there as you get off the ship.  I have had this change of itinerary  happen to me on a Transatlantic when we couldn't visit Portugal because of an engine problem.  Perhaps in the future you will be able to visit Grand Turk on another Carnival cruise.

Please don't blame the captain for this change of itinerary.  His first duty is to keep all of you safe.  Believe me, he didn't want to incur all the negative feelings if he did not feel it necessary.

At least you found the food, dining and service to be good.  I am a VIFP on Carnival and feel that Carnival gives good value for the money that you spend.    .

If you ever get to Grand Turk, please write another review and let us know if it lived up to your expectations.    Gloria

I'm sorry the weather was bad and you did not hit the ports that were scheduled.   But you can not blame Carnival for the weather (or are they behind the drought in CA ?     J/K).

I would much rather visit different ports and be in good weather then be in rough seas.  I have been on a  cruises where 1/3 of the dining room did not show for dinner and people were rolled out of bed due to the sea being rough.  Hitting a port rite after a storm is not fun,   beaches are trashed,  stores damaged and closed.   Not the inviting tropical feeling we think of.

When you travel during storm season you should expect that the ports could change.  I'm set for the Eastern Caribbean in early October and I know storm season runs until November,  so I may have a port or two changed on me.  Don't let the weather ruin your vacation,  I go with the flow.

I noticed that you did not review the rest of the ship, How was your cabin,  the food, the service and the entertainment ?  These things are in the ships control.

We would much rather be on a cruise ship that goes to different ports to avoid bad weather (even if the timing is off) than be stuck on an island during a storm!

With all due respect ebersol, I do not feel this is a fair review. The Captain ALWAYS has the authority to alter the course of the vessel for the safety of the passengers, crew and ship. It may have been a tropical storm BUT storms can change course at any time and in any direction as well as strengthen (if you live in Florida as I do, you would understand). Would you have been happier if the Captain had decided to take the chance of sailing towards the storm and then the storm DID turn into a hurricane? At that point, he still would not have been able to visit the planned ports and your cruise would have been very turbulent. For the record, I sailed the Pride in 2007 and loved it.
