Review summary

Carnival never again. Put over 6000 peoples safety at risk with a known engine failure - should have never left Long Beach. Then they gave us a $400 on board credit to use on their overpriced items. Management, John Heald, was an arrogant jerk when explaining that we would not get refunds or future trip credits. Heck, they give discounts all the time - how hard would it be to do the right thing. I'd advise to try a different crise line as Carnival was a rip-off.

Third party review site, the idiot will not see the comments about his stupidity of sulking in a corner and not eating. NEVER EVER GO ON A CRUISE SHIP EXPECTING YOUR PORTS TO BE THERE! Read the FINE PRINT in your CONTRACT! No guarantees on going anywhere. Vista class ships are notoriously prone to propulsion issues, and you just hope that you do not get caught in one. Nice thing about the electric propulsion, the power plants still work which means the shipboard life goes on. Unfortunately, Long Beach is a short 2 hour flight and a 30 minute taxi ride away, so the Panorama is about the only good, cheaper cruise alternative for a quick trip. At least we enjoy most of the food places (except for the buffet).

Kind of sad that just because you could not get two ports you had to sulk and ruin your entire week, including not eating(?). Glad I am not you and can find fun elsewhere on the ship to compensate for the missed ports. Even though the Panorama is the best Carnival ship closest to me, I prefer not to sail Vista class because they do have the engine problems. Although it still is a good ship for a quick cheaper getaway, just don't be a jerky idiot and mark all zeros if propulsion does break beyond engineering's ability to fix, go enjoy not going to work (or whatever substitutes for work).

I was also on the cruise and I agree that carnival let us down in a lot of ways. It was still a absolute blast, you just had to try a little harder to make it what you want it to be but for a personal preference, I think I’ll go back to cruising with Norwegian. I think everyone should give carnival a try It just wasn’t for us.

Just don’t know why any cruise ship company would set sail knowing you had big-time troubles that no one signed up for. Nothing but greed.

I was booked on the Panorama for this week but of course was canceled because of the propulsion issue. We were so disappointed and would have gladly traded you places. You still got a 7 day cruise and $400 to spend on board! I call that a windfall. You missed out on Mazatlan and PV. You didn’t miss much. Consider yourself lucky.

Be happy you received the $400! Always good to read your cruise contract cause they didn’t even have to give you what they did.

Oops sorry 😞 thanks

Things break, only a limited number of dry docks for that size of ship. Understand your frustration, but put your big girl panties on, and make the best of it.

I agree with cruisent. They should have done something more then what they did. If you were in a taxi and it broke down should you have to pay for the whole ride? $400 dose not begin to be Compensation for my cruise even Partial Compensation AND you can only spend it on the ship.

Your safety was not put at risk...

Have missed ports for several reasons, it is what it is. It also states in your cruise contract that itinerary can change without notice and without compensation. Sorry you were disappointed with your cruise.

They should have read their contract. It reads ports can be missed. $400 OBC and refunds of port fees and taxes

I guess I'm the only 1 surprised they gave each passenger a 400 dollar credit for a 5 or 6 days cruise.

Cruise on Carnival. Never a problem.

cruisent    1 year ago

I have to side with the OP here and think Carnival should have given passengers a future complimentary sailing since this was entirely their fault. I'd be very upset to miss not one but 2 ports of the itinerary because a cruise to nowhere wasn't what the passengers signed up for. Bad Carnival. ☹️

Have you ever had car problems.. things happen… especially with the Vista class ships…bad weather, port problems, maybe cruising is not for you…

michelleb1127    1 year ago

I am sorry that the ship's engines had a problem. It seems to be an issue with Vista class.

We have been been cruising over 16 years on carnival and never had a problem. We’ve enjoyed every cruise, every port, and every ship that we’ve been on just don’t go on spring break.

Our friends were on that sailing, first cruise and they still had a great time!
