Review summary

Have taken this cruise many times, both on Carnival and Princess. Wanted to go on Panorama, as it was new and the size. Next time, will go on smaller ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Walked right into staging area, checked boarding papers, and board ship. Very fast and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The main dining room was excellent, service and food. Staff always able to accommodate each person at our table. Only tried Ji Ji's. Surprised at sharing each course. Service was excellent. Food was bland. Buffets, Guy's Burger, etc., were all very good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Lots of activities for young and young at heart cruisers. Rope works and sky bike looked exciting, but beyond my physical capabilities. Lots of things for families with tweens and teens to do.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Stage shows were a disappointment. Lots of lights and sound effects, not much singing or dancing. Apparently the shows had a theme or story, difficult to tell. The new seating design in the Liquid Lounge is awful, floor seating is conference seating, just rows of banquet chairs. Was told this was so the cast could interact with audiences. Stage was difficult to see and chairs were uncomfortable. Musicians in atrium were great.

Children's Programs

No children with us, lots on ship and all appeared to be having fun.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff were friendly and professional when doing their jobs. Carnival has some of the best service personnel.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was always clean. Decor is very muted, feels like an up scale hotel or casino resort. Nothing gaudy or frilly. Lots of shopping possibilities. Didn't feel like a ship until you were out by the pools.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Standard balcony cabin. Only two closets, other Carnival ships have three. Very clean, very muted color decor.

Ship tip

Be prepared to be confused about elevators, must select deck before boarding. Things, activities are far apart, the ship is big.. Only one specialty coffee cafe, aft and not well traveled area. Lots of places to seat and relax away from noise and other people.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
Queen Mary is within walking distance. Otherwise lots of parking lots.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
Tender in to port. Easy to walk about if you don't mind vendors.

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Took tram to market area. Lots of typical souvenirs.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
Lots of new construction to pass through before getting to street. Poor signage about direction and what's ahead.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Stop and go. Shuttle busses to airport were slow in arriving, so long lines to board. Good thing it wasn't raining.
