Review summary

I would give overall 3 out of 10 to this cruise overall. Unfortunately it was my first cruise, and based on the cruise experience, I do not want to go to cruise again. Maybe if it would different cruise line or newer ship, my opinion would be different.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
fast and efficient

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Bacchus dining room presents very attractive menus. However, real food is different: ordered short ribs - got corned beef brisket; ordered szechuan shrimps - they were way overcooked and not chewable. The chef was very creative - like as a side for pan seared fish there was a pork sausage slices. I personally do not think it is good combination, but maybe somebody would like it. No berries in didnig room and in buffets. Fresh cantaloupes melons, pineapples and not ripened (crunchy). Food selection in the buffets is comparable to 3 star hotel breakfast. Mainly it is canned/previously frozen food. Almost nothing was fresh except eggs, tomatoes, onion, peppers and some fruits.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There are 3 identical pools/whirlpools. Pools are small -only can fit maybe 10 people. Whirlpools are only for 6-7 people. There are 2 water slide, which were open half of the time. One of them (green) only 3 sec ride. Another (yellow) is only for a people with small weight/height. I go t stuck in it and had to get down on my own for 3 min. Mini golf field was not useable due to the weather. Sauna and steam room were good. However steam room got broken in 4 days and never fixed after.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
2nd class performers - people from Vegas variety shows (not from major casino), retired Broadway singer, music/dance group consisting not in shape ~ 40 year old guys and ladies, comedians, which nobody knows with half of the not funny jokes etc. I liked violin trio played in atrium bar and piano player, who can perform songs by ask. But it was nothing fancy.

Children's Programs

no children attended

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Room steward (Putu) was great. He performed above an beyond. Waiter in Bacchus DR (Ida) was also great. However, another waiter was always starting with "why are late for dinner ?" question, which was really annoying. We had plenty of time to finish dinned before next shift.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Ship was kind of old, some rusty metal parts, chipped wood, etc. But it was clean

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Closets cannot fit belongings from 4 people, so, we kept some stuff in luggage. Size is normal. We did not expand sofa, and used bunk bed in order to have some space to walk by

Ship tip

I would not recommend it

Not for everyone

Most Alaska cruises are older. They are nice but not a party vibe. Thanks for sharing

Yes being late to dinner is rude and disrespectful..... Seems like you didn't research cruising before taking the plunge.... Sorry you didn't like it.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Perhaps try another cruise line before you write off cruising?

Being consistently late to assigned dining is rude and selfish.

You will only find the older, smaller ships from the mass market lines are able to sail Alaska. If you want a newer but still sized to cruise AK, you need to book on the upscale or boutique lines. If you pick the latest and greatest from the mass market lines be prepared even during school session time for lots of kids on board.
