Review summary

We really enjoyed this cruise and the ship, would recommend going through the Panama Canal to any of our friends and family.

Embarkation

We arrived earlier than our scheduled time due to hotel shuttle logistics and were allowed right on the ship. It was awesome.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had early dining in the Bacchus Dining Room. Nice assortment of menu options. Brunch: loved their brunch! 24 hour pizza: also loved it. Thin crust, nice and crispy. Plus they deliver if you prefer. Buffet: this was our least favorite tasting food so we didn’t eat here more than once or twice. BUT the salad bar was great, sandwich bar was also very good. Off The Grill: burgers were delicious, I just wished it was open more (extend hours). Sushi: Surprisingly delicious, we actually had their sushi 6-7 times throughout the cruise.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Trivia was entertaining, bingo was fun but a little expensive, pools not over crowded and warmed up by early afternoon, mini-golf fun (ship blowers on hole one and nine move your ball), multiple options for music each evening, comedy shows were funny (Diane F was the absolute best!!).

Stage shows were good. Some better than others.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Like I read in another review, the service on the ship is fantastic. Our cabin steward, Arnold, was awesome. Our dining room staff was great!! We were also a large group of 11 with Domo and Ralph. Funny, personable, knew our names and took time to get to know us. Charles!! Best cocktail server ever. He was EVERYWHERE!! Lol Our only notice of service without a smile was in the MadHatter’s where we watched comedy. I don’t think those cocktail staff really wanted to be there.

Ship tip

Bring a power strip- there is only one outlet in your cabin.

Ports of call

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Monteverde Cloud Forest suspension bridges and hike. Plus a stop to see the hummingbirds and have a delicious lunch. Just our group, not booked through the ship. Awesome!!! We would like to return to Costa Rica to see more.

Cartagena, Colombia

Didn’t have anything planned here, got off the ship and found a great tour guide, Gino, to show us around (Air-conditioned van, $20 bucks a person). Four stars is because the vendors are ridiculously aggressive, it makes it unenjoyable to see the popular tourist sites.

San Diego, California

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

Take the time to drive to Antigua. We booked an ATV tour through Simoon tours (not through the ship). It was so fun for our larger group and we could get to places a tour van could not. Great lunch at a small, local place with beautiful views.

Huatulco, Mexico

We booked a tour (not through the ship) to visit the local beaches and snorkel. It was so beautiful.

Panama Canal Transit

Very interesting and great experience to see such an amazing engineering masterpiece.

We weren’t in a hurry, so we scheduled to get off with them managing our bags. Easy!
