Review summary

Great second cruise for me. Last one was in 2001. This is my hubby's first cruise and he is in love. I see many more trips in our future.

Super quick and painless

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I really enjoyed the variety of the food served in the main dining rooms. I got to try escargo again and found it much more enjoyable than the first time. The chefs did an excellent job.

Maguire's Sports Bar

5 out of 5

Gotta love being able to watch your team while sipping margaritas and sailing to Mexico.

Mad Hatter's Ball Lounge

4 out of 5

The venue itself was great but for a couple of the shows it would have been better to move them to the Phantom lounge as there were way to many people showing up for the little space.

Dr. Frankenstein's Lab Dance Club

5 out of 5

I haven't danced that hard or for that long in a really long time. The DJ was phenomenal.

Bacchus Dining Room

The chefs did an excellent job presenting foods I would never have tried otherwise. Aleksander was an excellent waiter and dancer. The man definitely works hard for the money.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The only thing that made the experience less than excellent was the Serenity bar closing early on the last days at sea. Other than that we had a blast

Mr. Lucky's Casino

4 out of 5

The only thing I would change is either the location on-board or getting a better smoking ventilation system.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows were well designed. I was a frequenter of the comedy shows and they were excellent.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had the best folks taking care of us. Our room steward Atthaya was very prompt and friendly. She made sure we had everything we needed. Our waiter Aleksander was the absolute best, I've never hugged my waiter before this cruise. His head waiter and assistant were a little lacking but he did his best to make sure we felt valued. He also did an excellent job with the shows. We loved "Char the Star" who was very entertaining while "trying" to tell jokes while warming up for the comics. We also loved Lucky Luis and the DJ in the Frankenstein's lab nightclub. I havent danced that hard in a while.

Ship Quality

Overall great design and super clean but as a non-smoker anytime I had to walk through the casino it made me gag. Either some improvement to the filtration system or having it be on a less traveled part of the ship would be preferable. I ended up going to the lido deck and walking across and coming back down to avoid it.

Cabin / Stateroom

bed was super comfortable, my cabin was taken care of by Atthaya who did an excellent job. I loved going out on the balcony for the warm sea air and initial views of the ports

Ship tip

Book your excursions early because they fill up fast. Expect to get lost a few times but explore and make an adventure of it.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

We started the day of the cruise with lunch with a friend at the Yard House. The food was excellent and we couldn't have asked for better weather. When we returned, after we left the ship we went over to the Queen Mary and explored the history of the ship which was pretty amazing

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

We didnt book an excursion because the ones we wanted to go on were full so we left a little later. The port was super commercial and definitely built for the drinking and purchasing. If you do want to buy souvenirs this is your best place to do so.

Mazatlan, Mexico

We did a great bus tour on this one and learned lots about the local area and how it came to be. It was actually the only time we got to put our feet in the sand which I definitely want to rectify on our next cruise. The shopping area by at the pier was definitely more laid back so we were able to eat and shop a bit more relaxed before heading out.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

For this we did a tequila tasting tour with an excellent Mexican buffet at the end. They taught us just enough to be tequila snobs when we came home. We also learned a bit about the history of tequila and the people of the Jalisco areas.

Disembarkation

super smooth
