Review summary

We had fun on the cruise but the ship was old and needed updating. As stated above, we had some issues w/the cabin when checking in and as stated above the food was not up to par for a cruise. Nothing stood out as delicious or fantastic, the variety was not where it should be and the availability was not great. Room service was only a few options of a sandwich or veggies and the rest you had to pay for which was unheard of.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Getting on the ship was quick and easy, no lines and no hassle.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The food wasn't stellar by any means and the buffets were open at only certain times and on certain sides and there wasn't a large variety. The quality of the food wasn't great, just ok and the buffets were small. First cruise where we were walking around looking for food! Crazy! They didn't do a great job at catering to dietary restrictions either, the dining room was the only place that could work with you and it had to be a 24 hr advance notice. In 2017 not sure why there isn't a vegan and gluten free option offered at every meal everywhere. Most people are not celiacs, just intolerant so if you would just label that w/a disclaimer of possible "cross contamination" most people would be fine with that. it was very hard to find stuff for my 6 yr old son, without eating the same thing every day. The pizza is 24 hrs so they should staff that more, the lines there were always long.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
some of the group games were fun and quick and easy....some things could definitely be updated (ie miniature golf and kids water tube)

Entertainment

3 out of 5
hit up a few shows, not bad for the most part.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
our son went a few times, first time he was bullied and none of the staff got involved so that wasn't ideal, 2nd time they just watched some movies. would be better to do more activities.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
the staff was always kind and polite, something we really appreciated.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
the ship was old and needed repairs and updates.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
This size of the cabin was good and we appreciated the large window, I think we got it because of the older ship. however when we checked in, the safe was not working so we had to call someone and the bathroom wasn't that clean, in fact it was clear someone else had used the toilet (and not for #1) prior to us arriving. disgusting.

Ship tip

Don't go, old ship. For what we paid, I feel like it was overpriced.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Did not visit port

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
we were 2 hrs behind schedule though which was strange and there isn't ever enough room upstairs in the buffets since that is the only place you can do on the last day for breakfast and everyone is bringing their luggage, should make more seats available.

If you want a wide selection of room service I suggest HAL like the person above stated, their total bill was probably 1-2k more then what you paid on Carnival. I'll take the less eating free options and keep the money in my pocket.

It's amazing what people expect ... this ship is not one of the old ones ...why did you not do your home work there are newer ships if you want all the bells and whistles you pay for it why come back and whinge 😝

We just came back from a HAL cruise and the room service was full and complimentary.

Actually many cruise lines are now charging for the enhanced room service menu. This is well known and has been discussed on a lot of cruise forums. A trend in the cruise industry.
