Review summary

Had low expectations for Carnival, but was surprised by quality food. Ship was dirty and old. Entertainment was well below average. Cookie was the best cruise director ever.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Way too easy. Needed to be a little more difficult. Weird comment, but seemed not to care much.

Main dining was average to above average, but the Hamburger place, the Blue Iguana place and the Pizza place were all three amazing. Best of any cruises I’ve been on and all on one ship.

I can not speak for your experience but we just got off the Magic last weekend and the ship was spotless. Someone was cleaning all the time. As for the age of the ship, it really isn’t that old but the decor is not for everyone. The newer ships are designed by a different person now so maybe you would like the fresher modernized decor better. Try the Breeze, Horizon, Vista or the Panama, they have a more modern less Vegas like decor. Everyone has different tastes but I hope you are not totally turned off by Carnival. Happy cruising.

I will be on the Magic in April for a B2B. The ship is not that old, believe me. There are plenty far older. This ship gets rave reviews consistently. I agree about the fabulous food. We enjoy it thoroughly. We felt the comedy shows were great, but we like raunchier the better. Never too crude for us, and we are senior citizens! As for the shows in the theater, well, I agree with you there. As we have also sailed RCCL and NCL, and experienced Broadway caliber shows in their theaters, we were not impressed with Carnival’s playlist productions. With that said, the overall all day and evening entertainment EVERYWHERE on Carnival is far superior than the other two lines. There is music playing literally in numerous locations, and trivia every afternoon. Not to mention the awesome Dive In Movies.

We were on it a year and a half ago. It was one of our favorite ships

The Magic was old? Couldn't get past this.

Well being your cruise was more of a year and a half ago, not sure how valuable the perspective it.

Did you want embarkation to be more difficult? I'm confused.
