Review summary

Carnival seems to have changed ( lowered) the food quality in the buffets. The comedy club is way too small for the number of people wanting to go, it should be in the theater. The dive in theater was great on this trip. The staff need to do something about the kids in the hot tubs. This is the second time we have taken a Carnival Cruise that we could not go in the hot tub as it was always filled with kids splashing and there were about 20 of them at a time. The spa staff are too aggressive in their sales. Otherwise the Entertainment was great, the cabin was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. I would ask that Carnival increase their price point and bring back some of the higher quality foods.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The main dining room was still pretty good, but we noticed that the buffet food quality has really gone down hill. Small example, they no longer use butter, but rather this whipped oil spread. Also the food is very doughy and starchy. The meat at the carving station was terrible- very chewy ( even the turkey was inedible). there is no longer any gravy or au Jus with the carving station just a starchy mix of something but its not gravy. Guy's Burger and the Taco Bar's were still great, but even the Burrito's have changed in the options.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
the serenity spa area was closed, the main pool was very crowded which we understand, but the hot tubs were ALWAYS filled with about 25 kids. I wish they would limit hot tubs to adults

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The pianist would only play a request if you paid him, but the shows were excellent. the comedy club was standing room only, which is not ideal, They need to move the comedy club to the large theatre

Service and Staff

Our daughters room was not made up for a day and a half. We had to find the attendant and ask for it to be made up. I asked him if that was because we prepaid our gratuties, he smiled and said no but I don't believe him.

Ship Quality

seemed better than last time. WE shopped the market, the local shops, then went to the Bearded Clam and then to Junkanoo Beach. It was quite fun

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Beautiful port. This was our favorite of this trip. Nice scenery and a wonderful lazy river style pool. Lots of shopping and well groomed. No one bothering you all the time trying to sell you something

Grand Turk Island

3 out of 5
noticing this port is becoming very busy- Even Jack's Shack is no longer a nice quiet place to relax on the beach- It's all becoming Grand Turk Party beach

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
very very fast and efficient

My wife and I where on the magic twice and never really saw the hot tubs full of kids maybe once by the pool but all the ones on the sides were never full

There are 8 hot tubs on the magic. I can’t believe that there are all full with kids.

I have no complaints about the cost vs cruise experience with Carnival and we would be more than happy to pay extra money for extras on the cruise, the children are not at fault, I always blame the "parents" adults who are in charge of them because they are usually no where around the underage people.

Sorry things on this cruise did not meet your expectations. The butter was changed because of environmental issues with the wrappers. It’s been in effect for quite a while now. Why was Serenity closed?

We don't pre pay gratuities. We pay based on service.

For a better experience with less crowds and children, cruise when school is in session and never cruise during Christmas or Spring Break.
