I wish I had spent a little more and sailed on a higher class line. Yes, the Disney ship parked next to us was twice the price, but now I see that it's probably worth it.
Embarkation

Not too bad, definitely better than disembarkation.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

The food was mediocre at best. We did not pay extra for the concierge restaurants, which might be up to the standard that most people would hope for on a cruise ship. The best kept secret on the ship is the indian place opposite the pizza counter. No line and the food was decent. The other passengers were not respectful and very low class. For example, people ate on the stairways in front of the cafes and left their plates even though a table was 40 feet away. A travel magazine summed it up perfectly when stating "People that once travelled by Greyhound are now traveling by ship".
Onboard Activities

Stay clear of the "art auctions". Nothing is original or of value.
Entertainment

Live music was almost non existent. The shows featured two people singing to a track along with two dancers. Lots of movies at nights for the kids.

Service and Staff

We only saw our cabin steward twice during the week.
Ship Quality

It's a gaudy looking ship when compared to a Princess liner .It reminded me of an amusement park. I will compliment the guys that constantly cleaned up after guests. I observed them being kept very busy!
Cabin / Stateroom

This was the dirtiest ship I've ever been on! We were greeted with trash from the previous guests in addition to a white dirt line going around the perimeter of the room. The shower drain was clogged and dirty. I would not get a balcony again. The doors are loud when closed and you will be woken up at all hours by people slamming them.
Ship tip
Choose a different ship. I've been on the Pride and it wasn't as poorly maintained as Magic.
It's a very poor island and country. I would not recommend going downtown unless you're a savvy traveler. Crime must be constant problem due to the amount of security guards armed with automatic weapons. I felt safe until I realized they probably would not help if I got robbed, only the bank they were guarding.
Wow, did this place go downhill! We were there 10 years ago and I didn't want to leave. What's left of the dock area is just jewelry stores with very pushy salesmen.
Controlled caos at best. They kindly request that you wait for your deck be called, but no one cared. I wound up just carrying bags down the stairs which wasn't easy since people decided to sit on them.
Been on most of those "higher class lines". Give me Carnival any day BUT you have to put some effort into planning and research. The Magic is an awesome ship and I'm thrilled I'm heading back on her again in a few months.
