Review summary

It's a cruise. Ports almost everyday so daytime boredom wasn't an issue. Many changes since our last cruise two years ago. Pizza place is still busy probably because room service is not free after 10pm and there are items for a fee on the menu. Couldn't get close to Mongolian grill, lines too long. Deli sandwiches are premade. They just throw them into the microwave so sometimes the middle is still cold. Cut back on staff. You have to ask for bucket of ice and robes in stateroom. Room steward asked if we wanted both morning and evening services. He already looked overworked so we said just evening. It was fine. I really wanted to tell every crew member we ran into not to be so mad at us, we didn't do anything wrong.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Hard to find a good bartender. Everyone seemed annoyed you were there. Upper aft bar was good and so was piano bar. Great service. Lobby and all others were not good and servers rude. Dining room food was good. We were told we could preorder some items for the dining room. Our table ordered mushroom soup. They said no problem. The next day we were told the chef declined our order and offered us escargot instead. We agreed to one order then they brought another urging us to eat it as if they couldn't give it away. We were all disappointed.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Some days it was hard to find things to do. Piano bar was fun. Cooking demonstration was fast and ok.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Two comedians. I liked one, the other was okay. Didn't see any shows. Peaked in and it seemed cheesy.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Staff was all a little off. Stateroom, dining, bars, guest services, excursion desk staff all seemed burned out. I know there were cuts and I think morale was very low for this cruise. We found a few happy crew members and stuck with them,

Sometimes smell of gas while in port sitting on balcony. Guys BBQ was just below us so we could monitor the line on sea days.

Ship tip

Skip Chef's table. Too long, too loud. Italian place is open for lunch and they serve make your own pasta, lasagna, salads. It was nice to sit and be served. Food can be hit or miss depending on mood of staff.

Ports of call

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Nothing to do. Small port. Would avoid cruises with this stop.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Did a two tank dive excursion through Carnival. Amazing place to dive. Overpriced shopping in port. Rum cakes are rip off but still tasty. Save shopping until Cozumel.

Belize City, Belize

Did a separate excursion of snorkeling in Caye Caulker. Two stops: one with nurse sharks and stingrays another with reefs and fish. Not a lot of fish to see. I really wanted a "Un-Belizable" shirt but no one had it. Odd. Save shopping until Cozumel.

Cozumel, Mexico

Good variety and reasonable prices in port. We also ventured out to downtown by cab (all highly monitored and safe). Got some great deals and lots of tequila samples. Everyone will bargain so walk away to get a better deal. Some places are high pressure. Saw a nativity set one place for $75 firm. After three more stops at other places, got the same set for $25. It can be annoying. I paid a little more for one item but I felt bad for the guy. Normally I dive or snorkel while in port but I needed a break. I have always loved the Cozumel stop. If you don't want to go downtown, walk out of the gates and head to the left a short distance for local vendors and food. Also good deals. If you'd rather stay inside, I saw some good deals as well so don't worry. You will find more local things outside of port gates though.

You know Carnival has a policy that if you are not happy with your cruise, while it’s in progress, you can ask for your refund and Carnival will get you off the ship at the next port. They will pay your hotel and flight back to your home. You should have done that other complaining endlessly on this site.

This cruise next year will be our 5th Carnival and 10th cruise . I have never had a problem with Carnival. Yes, certain venues had lines but never were we treated by anything other than royalty. Crew was absolutely amazing always giving 110% and cabin was spotless. Nothing to do?? How is that possible?? Even on A sea day there is always more to do than you can fit in one day. I guess if your idea is extreme fun like bungee jumping or zipline or swimming with sharks every day then cruising probably not your thing. To say there wasnt enough to do is just plain insane.

Im cinfused the deli sandwiches were "cold" in the middle? Not sure last tume you cruised but ice & robes are not inside anymore so water wont be everywhte. If you check uour wall hangers you fill out the card for robes/ room service. Nothin new

People need a chill pill. Galaxyblue154 has their opinion on carnival. I do agree they have seemed to cut back on alot of extras they used to offer. I've sailed on their ships 7 times out of those times I've experienced 2 negative cruises, but it's like the crap tables you win some and you loose some.

I just got back last Sat. From the Magic. The opposite was my option. Staff was great. I tipped extra. My only problem was customer care lines were insane. Had to go at midnight and still a long line. They finally added 2 more people so it moved along pretty good. For me it was a great cruise. Would sail the Magic again without a doubt.

Your opening statement says it all for you - "It's a cruise" You could not find anything to do? That is your own fault! I would say, you should not cruise in the future. Try something else, cruising wad obviously not for you.

e Had our first and last Carnival cruise for Christmas 2016. Horrible experience. Will never go Carnival again. Room was filthy. Had to get housekeeping manager to finally get it cleaned. I posted pics of it. Really really bad service, crew was over worked and unhappy.
