Review summary

Hurricanes forced two port changes from when we originally booked this cruise. High winds prevented going to another of our original scheduled ports. It may not have ended up being the cruise we thought we were getting but it was wonderful. We look at it as a reason to book again to go back to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Grand Turk. Carnival is a great Cruise line and we can't wait to get another one scheduled. The Magic was a lovely ship. Staff terrific. Cruise Director the best.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Shuttle from Residence Inn dropped us off at terminal. Checked in before our scheduled time. Process was about and pretty quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I'm a very picky eater so for me the food was just ok. Not always served as warm as I would expect. Lido omlette station was great for egg white omlettes. Did not eat Lido buffet except for breakfast. Pig & Anchor was really, really good. We wished it was open longer hours and more days (scheduled sea days only). Italian restaurant was very good and there is no additional charge if you go at lunch. We did not go to the steakhouse but did order the filet from there in the Main Dining Room on a night I want b able to find a good option for dinner. It was delicious!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We took advantage of many activities ie. Walking the track daily, walking Deck 5 inside and out, photos every evening, Serenity Deck, trivia, holiday special activities, theater shows were good, water slide were fast and fun . Hot tubs were not warm but still used them a few times. The Sports deck was a lot of fun.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
There was plenty to do and see. Bands we're good. Theater performers we great.

Children's Programs

Adults only in our party. It seemed there was a lot for kids to do according to what we observed others had to choose from.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Wait staff amazing. Room Steward great. Dr. E was the best we have ever had as Cruise Director

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Staff painting and cleaning everything every day. Loved the Magic

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved our balcony. Plenty of room and storage

Ship tip

Sail with Dr. E. He is the BEST Cruise Director we have ever had.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Stayed at Residence Inn near port. Parked car there. Shuttle service to Port and back. All very good service. Many restaurant choices with variety of foods available. This port is very organized. Embarkation and debarkation went quickly and efficiently. Our group of six did get split up into the couples at embarkation so we did not get one picture of the group during embarkation check in but that was not a big deal.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

3 out of 5
Fort was cool. Rum factory on their lunch break while we toured so really didn't get to see it up and running. Street vendors were annoying and almost scary at times if you didn't want to look at their booths.

Grand Turk Island Did not visit port

High winds prevented docking

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

4 out of 5
Beautiful. Plenty of chairs on beach. Shopping available. Tender ride smooth and organized. Good food.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Atlantis was really cool

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and smooth once a medical emergency cleared
