Review summary

This was the 3rd Dream class ship that I have sailed on. The class is not my favorite. It is larger than most of the Carnival ships, but in my opinion, not better. In some ways I do not feel like the Dream class ships match up favorably against the Conquest class ships. The Magic has no sports bar for fans to sit in and relax while checking out what is going on in the world of sports. This was also the first cruise that I can recall that did not have a single sports trivia session. Additionally, the comedy club seems a bit smaller than those in the Conquest class. There was always a line waiting to get in and almost always was standing room only. If the actual room is not smaller, the lay-out makes it seem that way as many of the seats offer only obstructed views of the stage.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Good enough for a smiley face, but still room to improve.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The show cast was better than many, but the musical options were below average.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Nothing special. The staff were generally friendly, but service was only average.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
My only complaint is the smoking in the casino. I do not smoke and I find the odor offensive.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The standard balcony cabin. It is large enough for a couple and has adequate closet space.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
This is the closest port to home - other than Tampa, and I do not like the Tampa cruise options.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

I agree with this review. We have only been in the Fantasy class ships prior to our cruise on the Magic. I was disappointed in several things. I really want to try a mid size class with Carnival.

I agree with your assessment of the dream class ships. The sports bars off the casino on the smaller ships are really nice. Is it just me but I find the dream class ships harder to navigate than the smaller ships. All that said I still enjoy a cruise on any carnival ship and have a cruise booked on the dream in Sept

Sports bars and comedy clubs have never been our forte. But still - a useful review. Thanks.
