Personal experience by Jtholidaygoer

The cruise went as expected except for the poor intertainment on the first and last night . The number of photographers on board seemed tobe excessive and became a bit of a pest.

The last day was spoiled by the extremely long queue in the theater to get the US officials to stamp our passports.

Cruise was fine. Accomodation were more than expected and staff excellent.  Unable to port at the Roatain port, due to weather.  Problem trip was the air travel.  My luggage arrived 3 days into the trip and my husband's never arrived during our trip.

Western Carribbean Christmas Cruise by EAFlorida425261

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was enjoyable; however, we were very surprised and disappointed that there was no chapel and no Christian religious service held during the week of Christmas. In fact, there was little mention of Christmas at all.

The port of Grand Cayman was terrible, and we don't care to go back.

We did enjoy Routan, Hondorus. The island was beautiful. We rented a private taxi to take us where we wanted to go. The charge was $60 total for the two of us. Of course, we left a generous tip to the driver. He made six stops and waited for us at each place.  Much, much better than paying for one of the ship's shore excursions.

The food was "OK." Menu was heavy on beef dishes for some reason. The fish dishes that were offered (other than the lobster, which was delicious), were disappointing.

Overall, the staff was wonderful. We only had one problem with a female dining room server. She seemed to have an "attitude" problem.

Really great time was had by all ! by floridafunones

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a much needed getaway for my husband and I. We really apprediated the staff and how hard they work to make us comfortable and happy. We could not have gotten a better vacation for our dollar. The highlight was the steak house, what a meal and the service was beyond superior. We were so happy with the entertainment , we esp enjuoyed the young man from Memphis who sang in the lounge. The only negatives we have are that we purchased our excursions through an outside company prior to leaving. we did not realize we would be treated differently. We were made to wait in an upstairs area for the tender with others who had not booked through carnival . Also finding the area for departing was a little difficult. But that is probably the parking company short coming. On ascale of 0 to 10 the food in the buffet was probally coming up a little short of a 6. but the restaurant at night was a nine. Cut the phoney eggs though. YUCH.

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our friends, Robert and Arndis got engaged at table 136 early seating.   A wonderful gift to hi-lite this cruise.  Our table waiter, Win, the greatest addition to a great cruise.  His humor and efficiency was greatly appreciated.  Everyone aboard were great along with the staff.

Love Carnival since this is my 8 cruise with them, the lido the food was goog but close to early, then open one place to eat only, one buffet only and was Mexican when it was a lot of Puertorricans there, mexican fews employes, the Asian day was more american than anything, looks like they dont know to cook , the restaurant just one nine and never when back, very disspointed in the food, you ask for medium rear got weldone twice and walk out, to get the luggage was a desister in tampa in the way back, people was very upset, other wise enjoy the countries visited, Royal Carribean has better food, menues and open until late with late buffet every night not just one, Disney , holland and Prince did better than Carnival on the food

Amazing Honeymoon by MattMorgan2013

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was a PERFECT fit for my wife and I. We chose this cruise to take our honeymoon on. We went to some amazing ports. We snorkeled in Cozumel, went Cave tubing in Beleize, and Ziplining in Honduras. Ziplining was an unbelievable experience that neither of us will ever forget. The curise it self was great. The service were was very good, food was awesome, entertainment kept us coming back for more. The cruise director (Brent) and assistant cruise drictor (Mike) always kept the crowd interested and having fun.

We will definately be a returning customer of Carnival! Thank you for the wonderful exerience and Honeymoon.

Legends are made. by fross

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Lets start with the great service we had from our steward (Yossy) and our waiting staff (Winn).   Being that the legend is an older ship and I was going in off peak season the staff seemed to bend over backwords to ensure that they exceeded our expectations.   The ship is older and shows signs of wear (ex.  The carpet is worn).   The glass elevators are a plus and the piano bar at the bottom was a pleasant spot to spend a few hours.   Overall wouldn't say this was the greatest ship I have ever been on (~ 25 previous  cruises) but as far as price and experience would rate this above average.  I will end by saying that I am reminded every trip I take that the cruise is only as good as you ( or you and your mate) make it.

Carnaval Legend by Birchsr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

While on the ship we were treated very well. The ship was very clean but was showing signs of age. Our waiter Win was excellent. However the ports were disappointing. When in Grand Cayman there did not seem to be any energy from the vendors. While in Cozemel we could not walk 5 feet without being hasseled. The other orts were just not very exciting.

You get what you pay for by 55plusCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The public area motif on the Legend is not elegant (read tacky).  Carnival spends a great deal of effort trying to extract additional funds from you.  The pre-paid gratuities make you feel uncomfortable on the last day when your servers and stewards are looking for additional tips.  Service in the public area consists of you going up to the bar to get your drink with automatic gratuity for you being your own bar server.  The food on the Lido deck can only be called available (as opposed to say good).  Our dining room staff was very nice; the dining room meals were good, but not anything special.  The shows were mediocre to poor.  Cabin was ok, but does not reflect today’s reality of multiple devices to plug and charge (phones, cameras, tablets, notebooks, etc.) because there is only ONE 120v outlet in the cabin that is unusable (the one in the bath is high and inconvenient.)  If you are a CPA user, bring your own extension cord because there are no plugs on the side where the beds are.  This also means that you have to create an unsafe tripping hazard.  Our cabin steward was reduced to taping the cord down with masking tape to reduce the risk of tripping to us.  The stewards are aware of the problem but Carnival gives them no options or help in resolving the issue.  Not sure if any other line is any better.

Left Behind by Emille

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

On November 26, we missed the Carnival cruise ship in the Cayman Islands by a few minutes due to traffic. We tried everything in our power to be there on time. We were on hold with Carnival on a cell phone, for over 20-minutes in a cab, in an attempt to inform them of our traffic situation, but by the time they answered the phone, we had arrived at the gate and were speaking with the gate agents as the boat sailed away. The gate agent handed us an envelope with our wallets and passports, and a written description of their contents, but neglected to telephone us.

From that moment on, we incurred numerous expenses to try to rejoin the cruise in Belize, but were ultimately informed that we should return home, as it was doubtful that the ship would be able to port in Belize, or even in Roatan which was the following stop, due to weather conditions. Carnival informed us that if we flew to Belize that it would be at our own expense.

Broken-hearted, we began making arrangements to return to New York. This first cruise, which was to be our second anniversary celebration, ended in disaster. We feel abandoned, and neglected by Carnival.

Exceeded my expectations! by Kiddiecakes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was nicely laid out, clean, festive and fun. The only downer for us was the formal dining experience in the evening. The food took over two hours and half the time, it was cold. But by no means did we starve on this cruise! Staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was spotless. It was a wonderful cruise experience.

Almost flawless!! by Kbrazel11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I truly enjoyed my 7 day cruise with Carnival, I was totally relaxed, had tons of fun, great food, and no worries.  I can't wait for my next cruise.  I only had one problem with my cabin.  The bathroom smelled terribly of strong urine, the guest services were called and housekeeping came in and immediately cleaned and sanitized the bathroom at my request.  I found that it was just the toilet itself, so luckily my Glade airfreshner was packed!!  Other than that small issue my vacation was flawless

WESTERN CARIBBEAN WITH LEGEND by gramp

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the ship was in good shape and always clean - the crew with which we dealt were pleasant and helpful - especially our dining and beverage  servers, making our holiday an enjoyable experience. Our cabin steward would run to open our cabin and wedge the door whenever he saw us returning, so that my wife who is in a wheel chair, could more easily enter our cabin - good stuff!

the only problem that we experienced was with the internet system when trying to confirm our return air travel - after 20 minutes of frustration we finally gave up.

So-so, But With Impersonal Service by CruiseWacko

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

If the Carnival Legend is striving for mediocrity, they are close to their goal.  Like nearly all cruise ships, the cabin was always clean and well maintained, most of the shows were very good, and there was a good variety of things to do onboard.  Although the dining room service was very good, the food left a lot to be desired.  We have many examples of poorly prepared, unpalatable or disgusting food.  Chateaubriand far too raw to eat (supposedly Medium Rare) was taken back to the kitchen and switched for some so overly cooked (well well done, supposedly Medium Well) that it could barely be cut with a steak knife, much less eaten; cheesecake unrecognizable as cheesecake; really, really bad escargots; otherwise great prime rib that came from the kitchen barely warm and got cold before it was half eaten are but a few examples.

Conversely, lunch in the dining room and the sea day brunch were very good, perhaps because of the smaller crowd and the ability of the kitchen to concentrate on fewer meals and smaller batches.  Lunch in the buffet was usually pretty good, with Asian and Mexican lines, a salad bar and deli (sandwiches) as well as the standard buffet items.  We weren't impressed by the desserts in the buffet, however.  We never ate supper in the buffet, preferring to eat with friends in the dining room.

The casino constantly reeked of cigarette smoke.  The few times we tried to sit down and enjoy throwing some money away, a chain smoker would come and sit down right next to us.  That would be it for us.  Exit, Stage Right.  The problem didn't stop when we left the casino, though.  To get from the dining room in the stern to the showroom in the bow, you were forced to walk through the casino.  Since it was too large to hold your breath while transiting the space, we learned to go up one or two decks before we would walk forward, thereby avoiding the smoky casino.  Too bad; we would have enjoyed spending more time (and, of course, money) there.

We find that normally on cruises, our cabin steward introduces himself and requests that should we need anything at all to please contact him.  Not here.  We knew his name from the little name tag inside our cabin door, but if we hadn't searched him out with a special request or two, we would never have met him.  That's the way it seemed to be throughout the ship.  Very impersonal.  Lots of people doing their jobs, but it seemed to us that they were just going through the motions, not really into their work or enjoying their jobs.  We didn't get the impression anywhere that they were there to serve us as the passenger/customer.  They all gave us the impression that they couldn't wait until they got off shift.

To us, the Legend seemed to have set a standard of mediocrity everywhere we looked.  I'd say that the running of the ship itself (the bridge) can't be faulted in any way.  Likewise, the Entertainment division (Cruise Director and staff) was dedicated to making sure we had plenty to do and had a great time doing it.  But the Hotel and Dining divisions were a different story.  We didn't expect excellence (this is Carnival, not Celebrity), yet we were still disappointed in our experience.  I would rate this cruise as average (2-1/2 stars) because even with its many shortcomings, a cruise is a cruise.  Any day spent cruising is better than a day at work.  But for only a nickel more on the dollar on another cruise line, we felt we could have had a much more enjoyable week.
