Review summary

Great 40TH Anniversary trip for two people who had never cruised. Saw beautiful scenery that can't be described and pictures don't do justice. You have to experience it yourself.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We were new to cruising and while the process is not hard, it was confusing at times. Next time will be smoother.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We tried almost all of the restaurants and never had anything bad. The Steak House was very good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We visited the fitness center and it was well equipped and well maintained. We are not pool people, but others seemed to enjoy them.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
A group of eight performers entertained most nights. They were singer/dancers who were very good at doing both. Each show was different from the next, so you didn't get tired of them through out the cruise. We also attended karaoke at a pub. Some performers were very good, others were sad, but funny.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
They took such good care of us in our room, in the dining rooms and around the ship. I can't think of one person who didn't try to be helpful when needed!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
There was always someone with a little broom sweeping up bits of trash and everything looked nice and clean. Those blue seventies stateroom bathrooms sinks need to go, though. It's time to refresh!!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The size and cleanliness were fine, but the mattress was not as comfortable as I would have liked. I'm so glad someone had suggested bringing a power strip because one plug doesn't cut it with today's electronics.

Ship tip

Even though it's August, take warm clothes. I chose fashion over function and regretted it!

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

We went to Chihuly Glass and Garden, the Space Needle, Pike's Market, the Waterfront, the Pop Culture Museum, the Aquarium and the Space Needle again at night. We also took a harbor tour on the Spirit of Seattle. It was beautiful! Our least favorite were the Pop Culture Museum and the Aquarium.

Skagway, Alaska

Great place. We love trains, so we took the White Pass train. We also did glass blowing at Jewell Gardens. It was great! They shipped us our creations and they are our favorite souvenirs.

Juneau, Alaska

We went to Mendenhall Glacier, the Chapel by the Lake, St. Therese and the Salmon Hatchery. It was all beautiful!!

Ketchikan, Alaska

Best shopping spot!!! We visited Creek Street and saw the Lumberjack Show. Mostly, we shopped. Got some great deals!

Victoria, British Columbia

Because it was evening, nothing we wanted to do was open. We rode around but went back to the ship before long.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
No problems at all. We went through the terminal, found our luggage, got in a shuttle and went to the airport. No problems.

Happy 40th and happy first cruise completion! You are correct that people should experience, not just look at pictures. Congrats to you both!
