Review summary

Maybe a bit unfair rating in some ways given this was our first cruise. We wanted to see Alaska and seemed like the best way to see it given the remoteness. We know going in we were likely not 'cruise people' and it was confirmed. It was not that it was terrible. it is just not for us. That said we did have a good time, great service, and some great times with our grand daughter. I very much enjoyed the sailing part, seeing the amazing nature, seeing marine life, and that part of it. So we put the balcony to great use and it was a chance for quiet away from the noise of the ship. It felt to us a bit like a Las Vegas Casino on the water which is not our thing. But the plus is the ship has great people. The entire crew were friendly and helpful which offset some concerns.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Actually we were pleasantly surprised by the food selection and quality. We had the dine anytime option and that was a very nice evening experience. The 9th floor Unicorn Café was great for other meals and had healthy options.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The water slide park was almost closed even though the daily program said it was open. The pools are beyond cold which when going to Alaska seems odd that they are not heated to allow for better use. The fitness center is top quality and no issue at all.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Another surprise for us especially the evening music shows at the large theater and the music at Red Frog Pub was quite good.

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had great service from Glenn (bartender), Ameda (dinner), and Florin (dinner), and overall felt the service and responses by all were great. We had great service across the board and no issues. This really offset some of the concerns.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It is showing its age.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
As expected a little tight for two adults and a nine year old grand daughter. That was expected but the room is a little dated.

Ports of call

They could skip this as far as I am concerned or decreased our time there.

Ketchikan, Alaska

This was the jewel of the stops. By far what I thought an Alaskan town would look like.

Victoria, British Columbia

Not enough time was given for this destination and late at night for children.

Try a river cruise...so laid back that people in rocking chairs knit & fall asleep..not joking

I highly recommend a land + sea package. We did do Holland America for ours, but we were only on the ship 4 days of our 15 day trip. The ship was quieter (we were on the younger side of the spectrum at 50 🙃) and the land part was AMAZING.

if you want quiet and boring you should sail Holland America instead.
