Review summary

One of the reasons we took this cruise was the chance to be on a "new" ship, see the latest designs and sail into NYC....the ship was nice, it was new and there were things to do. It is a great ship but has some design flaws that need to be worked out or you need to be prepared for... Lastly, all the advertising lead us to believe that we would be sailing into the harbor, past the Statue of Liberty...this did not happen. We snuck past at 0230 and could barely see anything ...major disappointment. Staff told us that this was due to a "special day" for the ship coming that morning and they needed to hurry in, get us all off and prepare for the festivities planned around the naming of the ship...there were many disappointed passengers over this...nothing like being able to line the rails and see the Statue and Ellis Island.

Fast and efficient!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was good with a good variety...we did enjoy the BBQ at "Guys" and the burritos at the "Blue Iguana."

Onboard Activities

Loud, Loud, Loud...in their desire to promote the "Fun Ship" aspect the volume of all the microphones or sound systems will make you deaf if you already aren't. Pools were small and they could try to heat them (like when we were in the cooler trans-Atlantic weather). We enjoyed the "the Sky Track", the challenge cours and many of the sports court games.

Excellent new elevator system once you figure out how to use it!!!...I really enjoyed some of the seating areas particularly deck 5. Poor design in the cabins left alot of areas that could've been used for storage. One of the big positives is the "Family Harbor" area and the lounge their for families or those booked in that area. The lounge in the "Family Harbor" has computers, games and televisions that give families the option of using these things without having to go to another deck. The coffee, ice cream, food and snacks are a hugh bonus...kudos to Carnival.

Ship tip

Be prepared to have a shortage of closet and cabinet space. Ear plugs or some other way to dampen the noise level of the speakers on the ship...in our dining room it was so loud that we could barely make out the singing of our maitre de. Also due to a poor design the "Liquid Lounge" makes it difficult to enjoy the wonderful entertainment.

Nice surprise....we enjoyed walking the boardwalk, eating at various places along the way and the visit to the Citadel was very good...don't miss the museum inside the Citadel.

Great city, lots to do. We arranged a pedi-cab tour of Cental Park and really enjoyed the narrative of our driver.
