Review summary

This my first cruise review after over 100 days on carnival cruises, it was not a good experience. The ports are fine, the ship is new but staff is not good and food is horrible. Same old crappy food and worse service. Further, room service was previously free, now they charge AND they charge extra for delivery from 10 pm-6 am. They are being cheap every way they can (less soap, untrained staff etc). The steakhouse is not as good as other ships even though it’s new, they changed the menu and took off popular items! More pay extra restaurants and worse food in free restaurants. The worst customer service in dining room and state rooms out of any cruise we’ve ever taken. Sea day brunch arrived an hour after ordering and my husband already had to leave so I dined alone. The people next to me got their salad after their meal and when they asked why, waitress said it’s because their main meal took up the table ie waitress did not understand that a “starter” comes before the meal. Total joke. The senior Maitre d is a sarcastic and unhelpful man. Wait staff continuously delivered wrong meals (and cold food) to several people in our party. Our room cleaning person forgot to clean our room and stated he thought we said not to. Ugh.I’ve never written a cruise review but wanted the let others know that carnival staff definitely does not have it together yet on this ship. I can say only 1 positive thing, their new elevators are great. Computerized and more efficient in managing crowds.

Little confused about your statement on a hundred days of cruising but same old crappy food if you are not happy with the food why would continue to book cruises on carnival there is other cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Norwegian etc. I have been on both Royal and Carnival I would have a hard time telling you who had the better food all seemed pretty good,but if I where you try a different cruise line instead of going off on Carnival it sounds like you are boarding the ship with a negative demeanor instilled.

I've read numerous reviews and all were positive. You can't let someone "experience" dictate your cruise experience.

Just keep an open mind cruisers!! I’ve read very positive reviews on the horizon! Keep in mind this is only one persons opinion and not necessarily how someone else would view their experience! I always find that the ships get better with time!!! I’m sure the horizon will be amazing and can’t wait until next March!!

Hopefully it gets better before June! Hopefully management sees all these reviews and makes major changes to me food and staff are the top thing to make or break a cruise!!

i dont understand how/what the crew is thinking... you cant make excuses for them, they must have some training/experience - we are not spending over $4500 to be ok with bad service. it makes me so angry, i book cruises to get onboard and enjoy a fun vacation, if the crew sucks its really not fair. The food isnt priority for me to be honest im sure 75% of the overall ship food is decent, but the staff i expect to want to be there with all of us having fun or at the least doing a good job - we didnt win free cruises, its our hard earned money. gets me upset. Praying the 5-6 workers we are around most are nice and have their act together. thx for sharing and thx for reading!

Apparently it’s an honour for the staff to be given a new ship! I thought they would have been the best and well motivated. Sadly, we came across some clueless waiting staff, and others who didn’t seem to want to be there. They were the minority. Horizon was my 6th cruise possibly ranks 6th. Cruise director overactive, so annoying with his 7.15 wake up call every morning! Didn’t enjoy the entertainment, magician, mind reader, juggler, fit for a kids party. Overall Enjoyed the cruise and itinerary but no desire to sail on Horizon again soon.

Glad to hear both the good and bad reviews about the ship but hopefully you have notified Carnival about this and not just vented over social media like most do. Either way it usually takes time to iron out any wrinkles no matter what industry your business is in especially when the staff are still getting to know about the ship themselves

I’ve seen nothing but good reviews. It’s a new ship. There are bugs to be worked out. Try not to be one of the first to sail in the future. Better luck next time.
