Awesome starter or quickie cruise by Tolidano

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

This was our first cruise. I'm sure other boats do nicer things and are bigger and have more amenities, but not knowing means this will blow you away. The food was great and always available. The staff was extremely kind and friendly. People outside NY will think the drinks are outrageously priced, but as a NYer, it was pretty average ($7-$15). There were always activities for both adults and children (we have none though). Trivia, karaoke, dancing, shows, mini golf, food tasting, arcade, comedy, and more. The casino was great, more than enough room for all the guests and a nice sports bar for watching the games. The room was certainly big enough and the bathroom had everything you wanted (including water pressure, which surprised me), except space - one at a time only. The pamphlet each day was super helpful with a complete schedule of events and a few highlighted items. I snapped a picture with my phone to have it handy. But the bad: We took a room on deck 2 at the back. It was SUPER loud. The whole room shook when they spun the engines up or down. As long as they did this while we were out, it was fine. But on docking days, it was usually early in the mornings and woke us up. Avoid the lower decks at the back. Pay the extra for a higher deck. You should explain the tip thing beforehand. Short story: they autotip $12 per person per day unless you go stand in guest services to cancel it. It's not bad, worked out to $100 for us, we were happy to pay it given the amazing service we received. They don't reload the cards in the continuous shufflers in the casino during the cruise. For you blackjack players, that means that by day 3, the cards are sour and you should avoid the tables like the plague. Just having continuous shufflers at all is usually enough for me, but there are no non-continuous shuffle tables on this boat. All the whirlpools were off. I find it hard to believe it was mechanical since they are all over the boat and don't use a single pump or anything. No decent explanation was given. If you're not married, don't bother going to the love game - it's only for married people. There was no pool over 20ft long. I like to swim laps, not stand in water. Other boats have 40 and 50 foot pools but not here. Leave the bathing suit at home - you can tan in shorts. The pools were constantly packed, and one drained at 11pm every night - rather early if you ask me. Bring a surge protector - there is exactly one outlet in your room. One. The TV was showing news and weather from Miami but the boat left from NY and went to Canada. Useless. No cell service - it's not surprising, but maybe you don't know your phone will NOT work. And it's $2 a minute to use their phones (retarded - it's 2013 - it should be $0.25 tops and still a huge profit for them). No Internet. Unless you want to pay through the nose. Literally 6 months of my Internet at home or 4 days on this boat. The cheapest plan is for just a few hours and costs 2 months of my Internet at home. Not worth it. Wait until you dock somewhere and find a place. For example - in St John New Brunswick, there is a bar just up the street from the port called Saint John Ale House - great food, great prices, free Wifi. Download Talkatone and Google Voice and you are all set. The galley is always in the middle of the ship (as I understand it) and therefore, there is always a deck you cannot pass through to get from front to back. You have to go up and over or down and under. Keep this in mind.

Fantastic Experience by Momwithkid

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The only reason I rated the cruise a 4 rather than 5 was that I could hear the entertainment in my cabin. The shows went on until after 11 pm, and I could hear the throbbing music on my 6th deck cabin as though I was in the Amber Palace three decks below. Otherwise, wonderful. The staff was extraordinarily helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate my son's food allergies. The shows were good, and my son enjoyed Camp Carnival. We loved Canada and had great excursions.

OK cruise but ... by tempuser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

cruise was not so great: dinners were not good until the last 2 nights, with fake prime rib, and almost same desert menu every night, except 1 item. The dinning room has 2 floors for dinner, but they only open 1 floor and make the guests wait 30 - 45 minutes for the "Dine your own time" guests. Waited over 1/2 an hour for hot water, and still did not get it until a hostess came around to ask if everything is ok. had 2 dancing shows out of 5 nights, while other 3 are game shows, with guess as entertainers.

Carnival Glory appropriately named by boppy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

I took my daughter and three grandchildren on this wonderful ship and had a "glorious trip" The children loved the activities and the shows and they were so surprised at the ice cream bar that they could serve themselves at anytime! My daughter and I had a great experience at the spa while the children enjoyed camp. It was smooth sailing and the crew were so helpful and always had a smile on their face. We were in two different cabins one oceanview and the other balcony. Room service was delightful with hot coffee served each morning! Loved this cruise wish it had been longer!!

The cruise was very good I had a few disappointments 1 directed to an uneven area cause my scooter not to work in normal capacity. 2, cigarette smoke in hall out side my room and areas we had to travel to get to our destination. The rest of cruise I really enjoyed.

I thouroughly enjoyed myself - first time to Canada along with my FIRST TIME ever being on a cruise. Delightful time, (slept like a baby) !!! The staff, waiters, porters were so kind, funny, knowledgeable, sweet and caterered to all of our needs and wants. I would definately like to do again - to another destination. I loved the 2 excursions i did - one in St. John Bay and the other in Hailifax - so much history I am very happy I picked Carnival and "the glory" I miss it already!

Boston to Canada 7 day cruise by flakeyscruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

We had a wonderful cruise from Boston up into Canada on July 21, 2013. We have always wanted to do this cruise, and it did not dissapoint us. Only downfall was the fog. Couldn't use the pool deck very much. So foggy! The rooms on Carnival are so nice and roomy. Much bigger rooms than on Royal Caribbean or Norweigan ships. Love all of the closet and shelf space for clothes. (Royal Caribbean rooms have no shelf space at all!) I do bring metal hangers, cuz there aren't enough for 2 of you. Only downfall about the rooms is there is only one electrical outlet. Once you have a balcony, you'll never go without one! It's definately worth the extra money. The food was fantastic the entire ship. We ate in the main dining room every night and the 5 of us had a great meal every night. No complaints. Lots of choices for breakfast and lunch on the lido deck. We actually ate very healthy! So many salads and fresh fruit! Loved the mexican station and the fresh paninis in the deli station. Delicious! Comedians in the late night club were great. Always caught that show every night. Great way to end the night. The new serenity lounging areas for adults only are wonderful. Couldn't have been more relaxing. And NO KIDS! Loved it! Did the Duck tour in Portland, Maine and Halifax, NS. What a fantastic way to see the city! Definately reccomend that! Then you still have plenty of time for shopping. I don't care what people say, I love Carnival. We cruise every year and love it! Can't wait to plan our next one!

Better than the cruise to Alaska by Historical

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

My wife and I had never been to that part of North America. It is far more beautiful and historical than we imagined. The people we met in Portland, Maine, St. John, New Bruswick, Hallifax and Sydney Nova Scotia were very accommodating and informative.

A relaxing trip by Glorycruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Everything we expected. Great service. Good food. A very relaxing experience. This is all I want to type as a review. 150 characters is too much to require. I will probably not finish the rating survey because of the character minimum.

We would not take this Carnival Canadian cruise again, but would like to try the Holland America Canadian cruise. by PeterOfNH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Where to start? How about context? My wife and I are not frequent cruisers. We cruise out of Boston as we live in that area. We have taken the NCL cruise out of Boston to Bermuda 3 times and that ship’s repositioning cruise once in the last eight years or so. We loved all four cruises. In a nutshell: We would not take this Carnival Canadian cruise again, but would like to try the Holland America Canadian cruise. The ports were great, but the ship, entertainment, food and service was inferior to the NCL cruises and left much to be desired. Pros: I liked the waterslide. The “Serenity” areas for 21+ were good, but not without problems (more in cons). Our inside cabin was great as was the daily cabin service: all was very clean, reasonably well stocked and very spacious for us. Guy’s Burgers were great, as were the tacos at the taco stand. In the dining rooms, the following were great: flatiron steak, bolognese lasagna, filet, melting chocolate cake. Two of the four comedians where good, the piano bar is good (we always like piano bars). Cons: While none of the food was spoiled/bad, very little of it was better than okay. The service in the main dining rooms (Platinum and Golden) was very slow, not planned and casual slow, but irregular and too slow. One might wait half hour for apps, but then be served the entree prior to finishing the app, then again wait a half hour for dessert. The wait staff periodically does 3-4 minute long, odd dances to loud music in the dining room in the middle dinner. I guess some people like this, but few people we ever sat with did, nor did we. Once our waiter was serving salads and stopped with only one left to be served at our table, danced for a few minutes then, sweating, came back to serve that last salad only to find it had been taken off the serving tray by some other waiter. Twenty minutes after the interruption, the last salad was served. While the cruise was almost entirely smooth sailing, twice food was spilled on me as it was served (once was just bread, do no big deal), and I witnessed others experience the same problem. The buffet food was okay, but the seating areas, while regularly tended to, were always dirty, particularly the seats, which I think they never cleaned. The tables were regularly wiped, but never with much effort, often missing areas, and just about never removing any dried on condiments, spills, etc. We learned it was always necessary to check flatware and glassware prior to use. I know that often stuff comes out of a dishwater with lipstick still on the top of a class or food dried on flatware, but it was clear that staff did not inspect things prior to putting them out for passenger use. The main entertainment, in the Amber Theatre, was generally average quality at best. The 21+ “Serenity” deck areas literally surrounded the young child area, including an outside playground type of area. Needless to say, this positioning afforded only a minimum amount of serenity, yet the “Serenity” area(s) was still better than the mayhem that generally existed around other deck areas. The Serentity area(s) offered two hot tubs and showers, but no pool. At the other end of the ship, and several flights of stairs way was an adults only pool. There was exactly one place, a hut near the main pool, on the entire ship to get towels and various sports equipment. There was virtually always a line. Never was staff distributing towels. Two pool towels were available in our cabin, but who wants to carry them around? The accounting of towels and sports equipment was done by the one guy in this one hut using paper and pencil. The whole situation was genuinely surreal. Speaking of lines, on this cruise, lines were everywhere. To get into dinner, assigned time or not, you waited in line. Once we waited 35 minutes, only to get a pager that required another 20 minutes. The line at the water slide was very long – I went during a day in port when my wife and I decided not to leave the ship. The lines for entertainment often ran a third the length of the ship. Some bars were never opened, such as the one in the Serenity area. The shades blocking the windows overlooking the water behind the bar in the Ebony Lounge were never opened. I guess opening them in the morning and closing them prior to shows at night was just too much effort, even when this passenger requested they be opened. Another oddity I wanted to add, was that I used the bar soap in the cabin, but it was never replaced. When I got to the last sliver, I phoned and was told that it was sponsor supplied and they are probably out, so I might not be able to get anymore. I got a call back to learn they were bringing some up. This was the only hiccup/oddity having to do with the cabin. Frankly, I could go on, but I think anyone still reading gets a clear picture. It seemed that, overall, most all staff and all functions, etc. existed strictly to get their job done to some letter of the rule/principle, but never in the spirit of customer satisfaction.

Canada, New England, New York by cruisealot2013

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Room was great. Couldn't get the MY TME DINING or early seating. Poor planning on the ships part. Never went to the 8:15pm dinner. Ate on the Lido Deck. At the carving stations the meat was always over cooked. They needed better planning with more going on.
