Review summary

Priority Boarding was fast and Easy. Our room was made up earlier than we expected. Cabin steward was very attentive, provided whatever we asked for promptly. That said we don't require much as we only made 2 requests the entire trip. Dining rooms service was quite good. On a par with other cruise lines. Bacon was a bit hard to find at the Buffet, the sausage links were good. Eggs Benedict tended to have solid yolks unless you happened to get a fresh batch. It's hard to screw up an omelet and they didn't.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Since we Paid for a Suite we were accorded priority Boarding which was a nice perk.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffets were somewhat limited in selection but overall quality was good. Dining room food was good if not exceptional. The steak house was a $35.00 per person additional but the meal met our expectations. On a par with Mortons, Ruths Chris, Flemmings or The Palm. Nice selection of sides & desserts. Ice Cream served in the Dining rooms was always partially melted on arriving. Other than that no serious shortcomings.

Pizza Pirate

5 out of 5

My wife is from Brooklyn, she had Pizza every afternoon. She hates any Pizza not made in Brooklyn. That's a ringing endorsement. Personally, my opinion of Pizza is that it's an open faced Cheese Sandwich. I tried it and it was better than most, not quite up to Norwegians but close enough.

Redfrog Rum Bar

5 out of 5

Friendly Bar Tenders.

Lido Marketplace

4 out of 5

Limited selection but what they had was well done.

Golden Restaurant

5 out of 5

Very nice. Attentive waiters, food was quite good.

Emerald Room Steakhouse

5 out of 5

Very Good. On a Par with Mortons, Ruths Chis, Flemmings, The Palm etc.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We did not partake in a lot of the on board activities offered but were satisfied with those we did participate in.

Internet Cafe

1 out of 5

If there was a rating below terrible i'd select it. I purchased the best plan in advance. Frankly the service is nearly unusable. It makes dial up seem fast. If you subscribe to a plan don't expect to be able to accomplish anything useful. I was expecting to be able to us GoToMyPC but just logging in often took many attempts and 2 to 3 hours. After finally logging on the connection was so slow as to be worthless. Don't waste your money.

Entertainment

Did not attend any of the Onboard entertainment venues. My wife enjoyed the Piano Bar. I am early to bed, early to rise.

Children's Programs

We are retired, no children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All up to expectations, our Cabin Stewart was very attentive without being annoying.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
All faciilites met our expectations. I would rate Carnival on a par with Holland America and Princess, above Norwegian and below Regent. Bar drinks were on the expensive side. Wine offerings were ordinary and over priced but that seems normal for the entire Cruise Industry.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very nice, no complaints, would reserve the same accommodations again if sailing with Carnival. Bed was more comfortable than the one on Norwegian ship we were on visiting Cuba in 12/17. That was a big plus. Can't comment on in suite entertainment since I didn't turn on the TV once. A printed news synopsis delivered to the room each morning would be a nice perk. Holland America used to do it, don't know if they still do. Room service Breakfasts were quite limited but the coffee was good.

Ship tip

If you are a Pizza Lover it's far aft on the Lido Deck (9). It's available 24 hours. Internet service is Abysmal. I paid in advance for the best plan. If that's the best they can do then i'd hate to try the less expensive options. That said at least they don't limit the time as other ships often do, One morning it took me three hours just to get logged in so I could pick up my email. Once I did get logged in the service was so slow as to be worthless. 3 of the 7 days I never was able to log on to my site using GoToMyPC. That is not acceptable considering what they charge.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

We flew in the night before and boarded ship in the Morning.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
Didn't do any excursions, just went ashore for a few hours and wandered around. Have visited Cozumel previously so nothing we wanted to do that hadn't been done before. Given the situation in Mexico now I'm less than comfortable getting any significant distance from the ship.

Belize City, Belize

We visited the Mayan Ruins. While not as impressive as other Mayan / Aztec / Olmec sites it is worth seeing. There's a Restaurant that's situated parallel to the parking area. They serve a crisp tortilla with a Black Bean Sauce. It's worth the trip...delicious.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras Did not visit port

Visited previously

George Town, Grand Cayman

It's another Caribbean Island, not much of interest there but it's an excuse to get off the boat. Eschew the tours and get on a public Bus. Four $5.00 your get to go around the Island. Our driver gave us a running commentary. Don't know if that's standard or not, probably not but it was an enjoyable ride.

Disembarkation

Hurry up and wait. Reminded me of the Army. No better or worse than any other Cruise Line.
