Review summary

The change in departure time caused us to miss our ship and customer care was not helpful nor would admit to their part in ruining our 40th anniversary celebration.

Ship tip

Would never cruise on Carnival again especially after speaking to customer care this AM. P.S. The rep who helped us resolve issues with the "Two Reef Snorkel" excursion was wonderful !

I am so sorry that this change in departure time ruined your 40th wedding anniversary cruise.  I know how disappointed you must be.  I humbly suggest that next time you arrive a day early so that it doesn't happen again.

I've cruised 12 times and never missed departure, even during Katrina, when we came really close. I guess I'm do for having insurance. it's been a pretty lucky run.

Not sure if all homeowners offers this but it would be worth checking out. Not sure if there is a time frame you have to purchase it.

not to late you can get up to 1 day before travel

kporter75    9 years ago

I didn't realize that. I'm cruising in two days and I should really look into that. It's probably too late, but might be beneficial for my other cruises.

Yes indeed...most people don't realize you can get travel insurance thru your homeowners. at a fraction of the cost. And even if you go thru carnival for the insurance if you have to file a claim its 3rd party, CCL will only get you the form to file then it's up to the individual.

You'd definitely be better off getting insurance, price wise, but Carnival isn't necessarily your best option. There's plenty of more cost effective options out there for about half the cost of CCL.

Yea, if you miss your flight, Carnival will refund 110% of you fare, if you flew through them on an airline.

Flying into Miami in May next year, day before, to much stress flying in the day of. point taken on the expense of staying overnight. L.A. and Miami are 2 of the most expensive ports to go out of as far as hotel rooms from the ports I've cruised from. My response about CCL getting you to the ship, exactly. If you go thru CCL they will get you up to the ship. And I always get insurance just in case.

Changing the departure time is unacceptable, unless there's a legitimate emergency that demands it. I'm flying day of because I could literally drive to the port if I had to. Not everyone travels the day before, especially to a city like LA where accommodations are excessively expensive. When Carnival arranges travel, they set arrival the day of, and they charge a huge premium for airfare. Long story short, if you arrived at the port before the posted last check in time, you should be entitled to a refund and Carnival should have gotten you to the ship. I've seen late arrivals ferried to the ship.

Fly in on day of embarkation?? Booked flight on your own or through Carnival??? Did you purchase cruise insurance through Carnival or insurance of your choice?? Was this your first cruise? (just asking). If this was your first cruise, lesson learned, sorry. If seasoned cruiser, then: 1. U NEVER DO. 2. CCL would have got u 2 the ship. 3. Insurance is a must.. Hate it ruined your 40th 😔
