Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our favorite part was Stingray City and snorkeling with the great crew (they are very nice and know what they are talking about) from Captain Marvin's group on Grand Cayman. Stingray City is amazing and they take pictures but they also let you take your own pictures!  Cozumel was very good too. We went swimming with the dolphins and seals but be prepared to spend lots of money on pictures. They don't let you take any of your own. Jamaica was third on the list. We went on the Enchanted garden, mini waterfall, and bird adventure. Our young guide (21) was very nice and knew his stuff, however just not that impressed with the area of the gardens and we found Jamaica a little less appealing and a little dirty. On the ship I wish they would make all smoking outside or in an all enclosed area because sometime the smoke is so thick you can't enjoy the singers and trivia games going on around the smoking areas. Overall the cruise was a good.

Not sure if we will come back. by Roeenajones

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Being an older ship it is priced just as high as other better bigger ships.  Shop was very crowded. The manager of the food service (he wear suspenders) was very rude, abrasive litteraly snagged a plate out of my hand  he took plates that we were still eating off of and just took it away.

We were suposed to get a 50.00 on board credit but never recieved it.

Bought a painting at acution and when we went to pay for it we were treated like we wasnt good enough to deal with. We left and went 3 more times only to find it closed. We won a free painting also and never recived. So We ended up with no paintings. The price of tip is outrageous didnt use him 2 times, changed towls and made bed 15 min work and we had to pay 91.00 each.

Service was great. Other then that all staff was nice

Great Crew, Average Food by TXCoupleCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our excursions to the Stingray Sandbar and Turtle Farm in the Caymans, as well as the ATV jungle ride in Cozumel were great. As usual, Carnival crews are among the best, and Malcolm, our cruise director, was hilarious. Comedians were terrific in Punchliner. Other entertainment was so-so. Dinner was always something to look forward to, but breakfast was unimaginative with dry eggs and hard biscuits. Lunch was average. Unfortunately, fog caused a very late departure and we missed our stop in Falmouth. Costa Maya is pretty boring unless you just want to drink or shop at the same shops you see everywhere else.

Room, Veranda, Gambling by jcarolus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

king bed in the room was very tight to manever around; should have slept in twin beds instead, was tough getting out of bed and going out to the veranda. The veranda was dirty, couldn't see but the sky when sitting down.  The railings blocked the view and the sunshield glass was dirty and blocked the view on the aft. The smoke in the gambling room was horrible, could not gamble.  When we finally got a machine to sit down and play a smoker would sit next to us and blow their smoke in our faces.  Had to leave which was their idea of us giving up our spot so they could take over.

Carnival by koreen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the staff was very friendly.  The dining room was very cold.  We wished there would have been more entertainment in the large theater.  Not enough quality things to do .   We didn't use the casino because of the cigarette smoke smell.

Not bad by Cruiser49468901

The ports were OK.  The Belize leg of it not so.  We stayed aboard.  Enjoyed Cozumel and especially Mahogany Bay.  The shops in Mahogany Bay were great.  Did not have to walk far to enjoy the beach and the shops.  We toured The Pasion Island in Cozumel.  Excellent.

Amazing experience by kellogg1031

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my husband and my first cruise. The staff was so awesome.  Our room steward Antonio was so kind. He remembered our names after the first day. Jorge in the Cich dining room was a very good waiter. Very kind, took care of all our needs. We requested his section. We cant think of anything bad. We're already thinking of where to go next. This time we're taking our handicap son then in 2 years all the family.

Carnival Freedom great ship for adults and families by aclosedeerpark

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

From the minute our group of 8 ladies stepped foot aboard the Carnival Freedom we were immediately having a good time. We still had our carry-on bags in hand when we stepped into the Lobby Atrium and there was great dance music playing. Three of our ladies set their bags down and started dancing. We were pleased that our stateroom was available to us even before our luggage arrived. We ate lunch as soon as we boarded the ship. All in all the favorite part of the cruise for me was the food. We had coffee delivered to our room each morning. We had breakfast on the Lido Deck and also in the Posh Restaurant. Three days we ate delicious and amazing hamburgers on the Lido Deck for lunch. Every night we ate at the Posh Restaurant with absolutely amazing service and food. On looking for improvement for the Carnival, we would ask that they consider employing better singers and dancers. I was disappointed in the evening entertainment at the main theater. I was also disappointed that our commode had an unpleasant order when the lid was raised to sit down. Also there was dust on our shelves in the bathroom and by our TV. Our steward met our needs. We did have to ask for clean glasses a couple to times. But we neglected to see that you could ask for service two times a day. We thought we had to choose AM or PM and did not realize that we could have both!  Yes I would definitely recommend Carnival and this ship, The Freedom, to others. For the price we paid, we certainly got our monies' worth!!!Happy

Carnival Freedom Upped My Opinion! by Kimberkk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our 2nd cruise on Carnival, 9th cruise overall.  Sailed on RC, Holland America and Celebrity.  I have to say, originally I told myself I wouldn't sail on Carnival, as I've heard some bad reviews with too many kids, too many drunk idiots.  This is now the 2nd cruise on Carnival and The Freedom has changed my mind!  The average age I would guess is 40 and up, very few children, but it all depends on time of year. The wait staff was outstanding, especially our waiters DD & Endra.  Our room attendant Nengah kept our ice buckets full all the time and room spotless!  There was a delay from the prior ship coming in on Saturday of 4 hours, but Carnival did try and reach everyone possible via text, phone calls or emails.  We got on 4 hour later but were so impressed on how fast they turned the ship around, getting 4,000 people off and then reboarding another 4000!  Outstanding!  Our luggage was to our room extremely fast too! The buffet food was fairly standard nothing fancy but served the purpose for quick and easy meal. I tried the deli this time around and it was great!!  Pizza Pirate always good, my husband loves Blue Iguana and Guys Burgers. The shows including comedy acts and theatre shows were more fun and less stuffy that other cruise, 80's rock, beach party, etc There's a reason they call them the fun ships!  All around best value for the money, cleanliness, fun and good times!

Enjoying "Freedom" on the Caribbean by trishagraham195

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Freedom was beautiful.  Nicely appointed, adequately-sized cabins, excellent food in the Posh Dining Room, and the staff and service were excellent.  We pretty much lost the first day due to fog in Galveston.  We didn't board the ship until early evening, and we didn't sail until after dinnertime - not Carnival's fault.  Captain reversed Cozumel's stop from first to last.  Mahogany Bay, Roatan - so-so.  I took the "Top 10 of Roatan" and it was the worst excursion I've ever been on.  Hot small van, cramped, boring, and relentless requests to purchase items at every stop but two.  Belize was magnificent.  Crystal clear water, and nice beaches.  The tender to shore wasn't my favorite.  The seas were choppy and it was very windy, and the tender boat rocked badly.  I took the Eco Bacab Park Horseback Ride with Lunch.  One of my favorite excursions ever.  The Park itself was well appointed with two swimming pools, waterslide, hammocks, gift shop, restaurant and bar.  The lunch and service were good.  The horseback riding was awesome, except that the trail was very muddy due to the storm which blew in on Thursday of the prior week!  I had a blast.  Our tour guide on the 45-minute ride to the Park, Lizette, was amazing.  She had expert knowledge of the island, having been born and raised in Belize.  In Cozumel, just went ashore to buy Cream Tequila, which I can't seem to find anywhere else.  Had a margarita at Fat Tuesday's.  I didn't purchase an excursion here because I've been to Cozumel numerous times.

My server in the Posh Restaurant, Octakiri, was without question the best server I've had on 9 cruises - including those on RCCL and NCL.  I cried the last night.  Entertainment was fair.  20-something kids who were amazing singers and dancers; however, it was basically the same show each night - they just changed the themes.  Had a good room steward, and all staff were helpful. The Cruise Director, Malcolm "Whoo Hoo" Burn was awesome.  He really relates well to people of all ages.  Had a great time with him and even got a pic together!

Getting off the ship was a nightmare. Even though we docked at 7 AM, I needed special assistance and was never called out of the theater for help.  I ended up disembarking myself, spending more than an hour standing in line, in Customs, then got herded onto a bus.  I had a 2:20 PM flight!  We didn't leave the Port until 10:40 AM - I was really nervous.  What they DIDN'T tell us was that the bus they put us on (after sitting and waiting for 45 minutes) would be stopping at Hobby Airport before Houston!  Needless to say, I missed my flight. Missing a flight after being in port for 8 hours is inexcusable.  The only other "mishap" was that the Freedom was extremely hot!  Every corridor and lounge area were stifling hot.  I asked my room steward and Guest Services repeatedly, but nothing was ever done.  And the second-hand smoke being emitted from the Casino was absolutely unbearable!  They really need to find a way to block all that smoke from getting to us non-smokers! You couldn't get within 300 feet of the Casino entrances without being assailed with smoke.  It truly was a big problem for me, being asthmatic.

All in all, this was a terrific cruise.  I won't sail any cruise line than Carnival.  They do a great job in providing entertainment - there's always something to do on the ship - regardless of whether you're in Port or a "Fun Day at Sea".  I highly recommend this cruise - even with the few hiccups I experienced!

The dining staff was great. Dilek, Louie and Supriyono  are excellent.

The portions seem a little small to us. The ship needed updating and

the entertainment could have been better.  The cruise director Malcolm

was very good at what he did.
