Review summary

As a couple we have been on this cruise 4 times now. We have been on different boats every time. This was our least favorite boat. Elevators were a joke. Getting off the boat in Catalina was a real long wait. It seemed disorganized. The food was ok except for the issues we had trying to accommodate our son's food allergies. 3 years ago, we had a great experience, and he loved the food and the care taken to keep him safe. This time it just seemed that the kitchen staff couldn't be bothered with accommodating his needs. At the end of each meal, our waiter would have our son make his food selections for the following day, but when we showed up for mealtime the next day, the waiter would say that they didn't get his order at all. This led to a longer mealtime for his meal to show up and it was very limited on what they could fix for him at that time. I didn't like the fact that we had to pay full price for our two granddaughters who were both under 2 years old. They really didn't take up any extra space but because they were with us, we were required to pay for a more expensive cabin, and they diffidently didn't eat their share of food.

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Frustrating. Our son has food allergies, and we have cruised with carnival before with no problems. On this cruise, they really didn't accommodate his needs and continually lost his meal orders that we submitted the day before. This caused delays at almost every meal. We as a family would have to wait for our son's meal to arrive so that we could eat together, and it was quite time consuming and frustrating.

Onboard Activities

Waterslides. The rope course closed right as our family was getting our turn, so we didn't get to experience this activity.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We enjoyed the DJ night parties, but the night movie selections were not that great.

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
We didn't use the kid's club because our kids were too young. The only other thing that our kids enjoyed was the splash pads.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
We had a good person that made up our room each morning. Other than that, the only other time we had interaction with staff or service was at our mealtime, and they just kept misplacing our son's order for his next day's meal because of his allergies.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship over all was too big. Our adult children with their families were at the complete other end of the boat from us, and it was too far away. We were required to make the room accommodations this way because Carnival required the kids to acquire a bigger room because they brought along a child that needed a crib. But we felt that the Ledo deck was too compact and tight. We were not impressed with the Italian style theme.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The cleanliness was good, but I don't think that it was necessary for our kids to purchase a room with a trundle bed, which was not used because they actually only needed a crip. When the crip was in the room, it made it nearly impossible to walk in the room.

Ship tip

Choose a different boat.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

We just got on and off the boat there.

Catalina Island, California

Not a lot to do there. The golf cart rentals were way too expensive. We had an extremely long wait on the tender boat to get from the ship to the port.

Ensenada, Mexico

We went to the La Buffadora. It was fine.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was good and we appreciated that they took our luggage the night before.
