Review summary

Overall our mother-daughter cruise was very enjoyable. What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! The crew celebrated with us which made it extra special. I was on the Venezia last year from New York and its sister ship Firenze has learned from its older sister! This ship is well-run by the captain and his crew. Both embarkation and disembarkation was the smoothest I have experienced. Although there was close to 4,700 passengers, it didn’t seem overly crowded. Be patient with the elevators.

Embarkation

In my years of cruising, this was the smoothest embarkation. Once we were checked-in (yes there was a lineup - to be expected) , just walked onto the ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Medici Restaurant was enjoyable and a menu that was good. Servers made it a great experience. Only visited the buffet on embarkation day, it was not crowded and the food was plentiful. We visited the main restaurant for breakfast/ brunch each day and it was good. The breakfast/ brunch menu doesn’t change much from cruise to cruise.

Our server Putu was amazing. Always greeted with a smile, ensured we had a great experience in the dining room.

Onboard Activities

There was always something to do or you could just enjoy some quite time - Your choice. Pool was small, but it seemed everyone respected each other space (for me, another first)

Entertainment

Joey the cruise director was great! I really enjoyed his sense of humour. He can roll with the punches. The performers were good and very enthusiastic. All main shows were enjoyable.

Limelight Lounge

Attended the art auctions and comedy shows - great little spot but fills up quickly

Carnival Seaside Theater

Lots of seating and good acoustics

Service and Staff

Angel our cabin steward, was literally an angel 😇. He truly took care of us and always greeted us by name and with a smile. Dining room staff were very friendly and attentive. Hoping you get Putu and team - they were amazing. In general, the staff and crew were friendly and seem happy to have you onboard.

Ship Quality

Very well kept and clean. Staff were always attentive ensuring the ship was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

First time staying in a cove balcony - we usually stay in a regular balcony or higher. Loved the enclosed balcony. However, we were more aft and kept hearing banging and shuffling during the night from above. If you are a light sleeper I would NOT recommend this cabin. Bathroom is a standard size, with actual shower door - no curtain!

Ship tip

If you choose cove balcony, try going more forward.

Ports of call

Ensenada, Mexico

Highly recommend the wine and painting excursion! Just note, you are not drinking wine while you are painting ;) After painting a tile (instructions provided by local artist), you proceed to an outdoor, shaded area to give you a brief history of the wines made in Mexico. You keep your painted tile - carefully packaged by local artist ensuring your work-of-art travels safely. Then proceed to another area where you are provided with 6 samples of various Mezcaleria types. (Similar to tequila)

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

We did the Queen Mary guided tour and I recommend it. Shoreline village, in my opinion, is a bit overrated. I thought there would be more venues.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
