Not Family Friendly by dom4him

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

As compared with other cruises on Carnival you have to go to a bar to get a soft drink refill, whereas other cruise lines have a better set up allowing you to go to self serve drink dispenser. Secondly some of the games on the main deck were definitely more adult and had women exposing their breast. Finally while the food in the main dining room was good, the food that was available throughout the day was not the best and the midnight buffet wasn't worth going to.

Had alot of fun by christischer

Big SmileMy whole family had a great time.  All the food was good, but the pizza line was long most of the time, they need to work on keeping up better.

The wait staff and room stewards were awesome. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

The shows and comedians were good.  The cheers and bubbles cards are the way to go, unless you only drink a couple of drinks a day.  The ship was clean and the staff was always keeping up on that. The teenagers had a lot of activities to participate in and the basketball and volleyball courts were always busy.

Good Cruise but leave your kids at HOME by Bigarrn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Happy

All in all a good cruise with great entertainment (comedians were VERY funny) and too much food. The ports were O.K. with the exception of Progresso. Progresso was very dirty and you really didn’t feel safe to roam the city.

For the bad: If you can’t control your children DON’T take them on a cruise! Kids are great, their parents were the problem, letting them run wild and act like fools with no parental control. Remember there are things that you DON’T want your kids to see on a cruise during spring break. Think first!

Food was good just needed to be HOT when served. Best way to get hot food was to order it at the stations (breakfast = omelet + Lunch = pizza ect)

Carlos Nebot the best cruise musician on the seas by ihavefourdogs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Best staff on the cruise: Alexander waiter in Inspiration, Carlos soloing with passion and extraordinary talent for hours on end, Priscillah the room steward. Room for improvement: so much standing around at the muster drill. More information please. Terrorism is real and people should be prepared for emergencies. The singing and dancing shows: so much cheese Really deplorable.

The food is amazing. We ate in the dining room every night on our own schedule. Karaoke was great and rowdy. Nice miniature golf course on the upper deck.

Good experience I would recommend.

Overall, good experience by CourtH

I took my mom on a cruise for her birthday, and it was a good time.  I recommend buying an excursion for Progresso, as there isn't much in the immediate vicinity.  Cozumel, be ready to be plummeted by vendors, but you can argue some pretty good deals.  There was much to do on this ship, just be weary of all of the bingo announcements.  The population was mixed, families, frat boys and girls, and older folks.  No one felt out of place which was nice. Bottom line, I would recommend this cruise.

Spring Break on the Carnival Elation by nicoleray225

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I am a frequent cruiser and I talked my boyfriend into taking his first ever cruise with me over spring break. We were nervous at first about the size of the rooms and the service on the boat because we hadn't heard good things about carnival lately but we had an amazing time and I didn't have one complaint or one problem cursing with carnival. We loved it and are considering booking another cruise for the summer!

Good Cruise to see Maya Ruins and Swim in the Sea by armstrongdustin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My family, wife and 3 kids, had a great time on this cruise.  We sailed on Carnival Elation.  It is a smaller ship but a really good one.  I am not really picky anyway.  The staff was really nice and it was nice to get to know them.  I would reccommend getting a cabin with window.  It was very nice to see the Ocean while in the cabin.  There is a lot to do in Cozumel and in Progreso visiting the mayan ruins is a must if you like history.  We went to Uxmal and had a really good time.Happy

Carnival Elation cruise February 21-26, 2015 by pinkpig2143

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My daughter and I took this cruise together to get away from the winter weather in Ohio.  Despite her getting seasick on the first day at sea...we had a great time!

We were disappointed that there wasn't a waterslide in the kid's area on the ship.  They did have their own pool and hot tub area, but we didn't see them utilize it.  They stayed, mostly at the main pool area and then made it difficult for the adults to enjoy the hot tubs in that area.

Dennis, our steward, was great!  We asked him for ice the very first evening & never had to ask for it again!  He made sure that our ice bucket was filled each afternoon/evening.

We didn't book excursions ahead of time.  We "freelanced" the day at Mr. Sancho's in Cozumel.  The beach was beautiful & we stayed there until time to reboard the ship.  We did buy an all-inclusive in Progreso from the locals for the Technotel Beach...San Benito.  It was cheaper than the ship & included our ride to and from.  The food and drinks were great...the beach no where near as nice as the ones in Cozumel.

All in all, it was a great getaway and my daughter's first cruise.  She really enjoyed herself & looks forward to taking another!

Great first cruise! by megandaigle24

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my first cruise, and I loved it! The staff were all very friendly and remembered our names. The ship is one of carnivals smaller ships, but it was still very large and offered a lot of entertainment. The food was okay. Some nights it was very good and others it was just okay. If you like to drink, I suggest getting the drink card. It seems like a lot of money and drinks at first, but you will get your money's worth. It was only $50 a day, and after a few drinks you're already at $50. You can also get soft drinks with the card and receive discounts on bottled water.

From Our Perspective by earlwest

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Ship- A little outdated

The Food- Great in the Dining Rooms, not so much on the Lido Deck

Our Stateroom Coordinator and Housekeeper- We were in M22. Yadyna and Pricilla were nothing less the wonderful. All smiles all the time

The Chefs Table- This evening was by far the highlight of our trip. Far exceeded expectations. 5 Stars Plus. Jorz and his staff made this a evening a evening to remember. The extra fee is money well spent. A wonderful atmosphere, wait staff was tremendous, food was completely unbelievable. This was the first item I booked after I booked the cruise and will be this first item I book the next trip. Can't miss with this event.

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Cruise on Elation by ldlynnedrew5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Enjoyed evening dinners.  The staff working with the children did an excellent job with a young child in our group.  Evening activities were ok.  I wish they had more things to do on the ship at night.  The shore excursion was the best part of the trip.  We went snorkeling and jeep riding.  The island of Cozumel was beautiful!

Good but not great by andrsn878

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Ship is nice but has an older feel to it. Biggest draw back was the food on Lido deck, not the best. Dinners in dining room and wait staff were very good. Seemed like there was a lack of activities on the ship. We had bad weather the entire cruise and that did not help, there was no lay around the pool time. Room was fine size wise but not the cleanest. In need of some updates.

i did not get credid by marcoicaza724

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Everything was very good, expect where I purchase the ticket " cruse only", they lie to me saying I was getting $50 off per cabin and they never give me . This kind of company makes your company look bad.

I spend over 4:30 hours on the phone purchasing the tickets and another 1:30 fixing a problem they made, so they promise because of the time I spend on the phone with then they were going to give me the inboard credit of $100. I will suggest not to do business with a company that makes that kind of promise and don't keep it. Because they told me I was going to have that credid I purchase a few bottle of wine thinking of the credit and at the end they said in the cruise I had none.

Terrible cruise by mbdecker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was small, and rocked the entire trip. Fellow cruisers and I constantly joked about the amount of motion sickness pills we were taking. The ship was not clean. We had previous cruisers things in our stateroom. Our napkins constantly had lipstick stains left on them. I will never take a carnival cruise again.

1st time cruise by dlwhaley52

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was excellant for our first time.  There were four of us traveling together and we were all pleasently surprised at how efficeint Carnival was with the embarking and disembarking procedures.  The food in the main dining room was excellant and the entire staff was very attentative to all of our needs.  I would not hesitate to book another cruise with Carnival,

Perfect fun and relaxing 4 night cruise by bsconsults

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was a short winter get-away cruise where everything went perfectly.  Bought the Faster to the Fun package.  Will never cruise without it again.  Getting on the ship was as fast as you could walk on, getting off was extremely easy and fast.  No waiting in the mob to disembark!  This was our first Carnival cruise – having been on Princess, Norwegian and Viking Riverboat in the past.  We had an ocean view stateroom (M146) and it was convenient to the midship elevator.  The stateroom – including the bathroom – seemed to us to be larger than other standard staterooms on other cruise lines.  Especially the shower.  Our cabin steward was right on top of things and remembered our first names.  Please note – there are no hair dryers in the stateroom. A quick call to guest services and one was there in a flash.  But next time I’ll call for one before I need it!  We did a wonderful shore excursion in Cozumel – the Atlantis submarine.  This is not a glass bottom boat – it is an actual submarine that goes down over 100 feet.  Spectacular.  Food was standard cruise fare – not spectacular but not bad.  Our dining room staff were great, especially Alma.  Bought bottles of wine on the first night and remaining bottles were on the table each night thereafter until they were gone.  The emphasis on the cruise is the bars, not the food.  No premium restaurants – the only up marketing was for an extra $20 you could get a good/better steak (we didn’t so don’t know if it was worth it or not).  Food at the buffet was pretty average, but lots of variety.  At the grill things were made to order and good – had an excellent Ruben sandwich.  Pizza was not worth eating but probably enjoyed by kids.  We went to the family comedy shows and one of the adult comedy shows (too much of the f word there) and enjoyed both comedians.  If you are a big drinker the $50 per day unlimited liquor must be a good deal – we just bought what we wanted by the bottle or glass.  The Elation is an older and smaller vessel.  Showing her age in the stateroom fittings etc.  So if you are looking for luxury, try a different ship.  The cruise didn’t have a luxury price tag so was fine with us.  It perfectly suited our winter get-away needs and I’d do it again in a flash.
