Review summary

Carnival Dream 7-day exotic Western Caribbean Tour. The ship - overall OK. I hate that the casino and its blue cloud of smoke is located mid-ship on Promenade deck - practically unavoidable - if one objects to cigarette smoke. It can be circumnavigated by going outside or down to 4, then up again. Or if you're really good holding your breath. Serenity Adult Only area needs a small pool, not just hot tubs. Both mid-deck and Aft pool were taken over by kids. They deserve one, not both. Food was OK, not great. One really bad meal. I thought the variety was a little weak. Service was very good - very personable restaurant staff. We went to the Chef's Steakhouse. They seemed a bit uppity except for the bartender, whom we met at another bar. Deck and lounging facilities adequate. One could find quiet corners. Stateroom ALERT: We were on Spa Deck (1) in cabin 12214. Be Aware that cabins 12214 and 12216 are directly below the kid's runway to the waterworks slides and pools. If you like an upstair neighbor with 700+ running children all day long, then this room would suit you. If you like afternoon naps, or just want to hang out in your cabin or on your balcony - forget it. Way too noisy to pay a premium price for a top deck balcony room. Shore Excursions: Cozumel - we booked an ATV "jungle" adventure. Tour operator switched it to a Jeep Explore. Not a good deal. Jeeps were uncovered (no tops) and it was bloody hot. No AC - or air flow for that matter - fans in Jeep inop. We drove to Punta Sur park and ended at a crappy beach where we attempted to snorkel. The reef was practically all dead and not many reef fish - certainly no variety. Not a good value or experience. Roatan - Zip Line and Eco forest walk. EXCELLENT - HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Belize - Cave Tubing. Again, Excellent, highly recommend Costa Maya - An excellent tour of Chicoben Mayan ruins. We were there early in the morning and it was cool, pleasant, and excellent light for photographs On-board ship entertainment - with the exception of the dance corps, we thought the featured signers and club acts were mediocre.
