Poor Entretainment Staff and onboard activities by CarnivalConq

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Food, Dinning and Cabin Personal Excellent, nice ports of calls, unfotunatelly we could deembark at Grand Turk, because of the strong winds. Disapoint we the entretainment staff and crew.  The company knew one week on advance the thw weather condition were not the best in Turks and Caicos, and they have not, arrange an alternative port of call to deembark in case of strong wins there.

Caribbean Vacation by lovetocruise100

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was fine, we rocked and rolled for two days on the way down as the weather was terrible. The showroom entertainment was great. The interactive screen on stage was terrific. Our stateroom was great and our steward was always ready to help. Great food always available. Guys burgers was a big hit. We missed Grand Turk on the way back as the wind was blowing 43 miles per hour and they couldn't dock the ship. The Captain tried twice. He took us over toward Cuba where he said the water would be smoother, and it was smooth sailing all the way back.

A good cruise on a budget! by MissAmandaB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our third cruise and second on Carnival.  We generally book cruises that are light on the budget.  On this cruise, we booked an interior room, which was comfortable and everything worked correctly, but we had to clean out the refrigerator and closet of the last guests' unwanted food, drinks, silverware, and New Year's Party favors.  Instead of having our cabin cleaned frequently, as it was on previous cruises, our cabin was only tended to once per day.

My favorite part of cruising is the food, but my husband and I felt that the dinner menu options were not as appealing on this cruise as our previous ones, and we didn't feel there was a good variety of options at the buffet either.  We did enjoy the Deli and Guy's Burger joint and we were pleased with Pizza Pirate for a late night snack.

The Tahiti Casino was a lot of fun and we were happy with the gaming options that were available.  We won.  We lost.  But, it was encouraging to see so many guests winning large jackpots throughout the trip.  The Casino was well visited during this trip, with bad weather causing us to miss our Grand Turk port completely, and we had a unexpected extra day at sea.  I was happy to have earned a card that entitled me to free drinks in the casino, but found that it took at least 15 minutes at any given time to receive your drink (forcing you to lose money at the machine you ordered your drink at) and sometimes your cocktail waitress never returned with your drink at all.  The bar/cocktail service in the casino was very slow and was frustrating.

Most of the employees on the ship were exceptional and we liked that we saw a lot of friendly interaction, smiling and joking between members of the crew.  But, we also saw the occasional unhappy crew member who did nothing to make the cruise experience special.  Speaking with many other guests during the cruise, everyone talked about how service was lacking in the dining room, from the stewards and elsewhere on the ship.  Some people claimed it was because there were a lot fewer crew members than usual, but I don't know where they got that information.  We had long waits for ordering, food and drinks in the dining room.  We had "your time" dining on all of our cruises, but this was the first cruise where we were moved around the dining room and dining room staff with each meal, which resulted in a mediocre connection between guests staff and reduced greatly our inclination to tip extra for great, personalized service.

Some shows were changed, canceled or rescheduled due to a rocky ship.  We missed one port completely and another port was unable to be scheduled.  Our embarkation and debarkation process went smoothly each day. The ship itself was kept clean, but we did experience some maintenance issues during our stay and heard about cabin maintenance issues from other guests that we befriended.  Many guests were without deck chairs when we learned that we could not dock at Grand Turk and many guests were heard complaining.

The very best part of this cruise was the entertainment.  The musical shows were outstanding!!!  The sets were amazing.  The comedians were entertaining.  We participated in Bingo, some of the parties (weather permitting) and we loved the violin band.  The photographers did an excellent job.  We were never bored on the ship.

We did not dine at the seafood or fine dining restaurants that were available at an extra cost.  We did hear from other guests that their dining experiences were "amazing" and "worth every penny spent".

Overall, I would give the ship a 3 of 5 because it needs updating and maintenance.  I would give the food a rating of 3 of 5 because the menu lacked variety and interest.  I would give the service a rating of 3 in general, but 2 if I compare it to the other cruises I have been on.  I give the entertainment a 5.  I give the cleanliness a 5.  I give the selection of ports and shore excursions a 4.

Nice route by Susanna1720

If you want to do the east Caribbean; you don't have much option but with this price range you can indeed take advantage of the stops. Especially Turks and Caicos; the beach is clean and safe. You can really enjoy the ocean breeze. Too bad we stayed really short in this island. This is the only reason why i picked Caribbean because it as going through Turks and Caicos and if they stop here longer.

So So Cruise by lisalorenzo5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Actually our favorite part was getting off the ship. Carnival is just getting worse on their older ships. the food is terrible. the steakhouse was average, the drinks are watered down and super expensive. Cabins are average. The service is ok. There was not one quiet place on that ship unless you were in your cabin. We were just in the Vista in October which is a very nice ship but it still does not compare to the royal carribean and celebrity. We paid a lot of money to be on deck 2 which was ok but we just payed less to be on the spa floor on the Vista. the spa was average too.

This shop needs additional amenities, more jacuzzis, more maintenance especially in pool area and more food variety.

entertainment was decent, singers not great. Overall experience was so so

would rather go on a newer Carnival ship.

also the THE anytime dining system is terrible we ended up switching because the wait to be seated was approx 45 minutes to an hour. Nothing like NCL. If they are going to offer this they have to have more dining areas not just one restaurant and on the onttbe forst floor while the second floor I completely empty.the restaurant Matr ds were rude and unacoomodating both in the money and Renoir restaurants.

Overall we had a good time but definitely not the cruise we have taken. If there is other choices I would recommend another ship or cruise line.

The Ports were good.

Carnival conquest by terinar

Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Carnival is a budget cruise line, and you get what you pay for. If this is the only cruise you can afford I still recommend doing it. It is perfectly adequate and you will still have a good time. However, for our next cruise we will for sure be checking out one of the slightly higher end lines and hope to gain nicer accommodations and better food and service. Another thing I'd like to mention is carnivals complete lack of enforcing their own rules. For example passengers were allowed to wear flip flops and sports gear on formal nights in the dining room, children ran unattended all over the place and were allowed to jump, splash and scream in the adults only hot tubs without a parent in sight.

First and last on Carnival by JuneMatys

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The ship was clean and the service was acceptable, the food was the worst I have EVER had on a cruise, and I have been on several.  Children were allow to go into areas that were designated for 18 yeas and older.  Quality of food was substandard.  I was served a fillet mignon in the over priced steakhouse that was bad and I was sick for two days.  Nothing was done about it.  We requested an ice bucket in our suite the first day as we drink a lot of water, it arrived the night before we departed the ship.

Enjoyable but needs some attention to the finer details by ushistorychic

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The dining room staff are the highlight of the trip since 99% of the time they are the most friendly, kind, helpful and fun people on the ship!!!

I also liked the Alchemy Bar as the drinks are more expensive but larger, creative and they top shelf and high quality ingredients.  I love the olives and nuts snack served with the drinks however I was not offered one this time. They had their usual bartenders there and then one from another part of the ship we met earlier that day, she remembered our names and greeted us which was an excellent way to treat customers that are paying quite a bit more and expecting more.

The love and marriage show is always a highlight, don't ever miss it!  Particularly the lobby band "the U-Turns" or a name very similar, were professional, had a great repertoire for all ages that really cannot be matched to other groups I have heard on board Carnival.

The Conquest is clean, efficient and the staff courteous. There are three issues that need attention on the Conquest.  The show 80s was fascinating in its use of technology but particularly the singers were below par.   The lead female was screechy and almost yelling with several sharp notes, one of the lead men (sang Michael Jackson) added husky, grating tones that do not belong. The 80s are an iconic and cherished time period for many cruisers (40-50ish) and the show should be sensitive to this reality. Some of the choreography lacked authenticity and sincerity almost mocking the culture of the 80s.  As well with Prince just passing away, the show trivialized his contribution to music and the 80s.     Secondly; the steak house.  Great food, charming and polite service it is a great deal.  One suggestion would be to ask the guests if they are planning on a particular time frame (as we were planning on going to the love and marriage show).  We missed the show because the meal was so slowly paced.  We were there from 8:30 to after 10:00.  Not rushing and pacing a meal is wonderful but reading your guests and communication are even more effective regardless of the venue.

Lastly, NO SERENITY???  An Adult only area is the reason we go Carnival for a balance of lots of fun and an escape.  There is an 18 and older spa (2) but the pizza line backs up into the area and that is just an invitation for children to come right on in.  I enjoy children, I understand they are a part of cruising but no 21 and older AREA on the Conquest (which has a lot of unused space on the upper decks) makes me avoid those ships like the Conquest in the future.

Overall fine experience but lots of room for improvement by tushardeore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite part of cruise -

We liked the family friendly culture of Carnival cruise line. This is our 3rd cruise with Carnival. We have 2 small kids who love going to Camp Carnival. We loved our balcony cabin on this cruise compared to our cabins from previous cruises. It was spacious and well lit. Room Service was very good as well.

Room for improvement -

This is our 3rd cruise with Carnival and I felt that they are trying to cut cost offering less variety in food. The Lido deck buffet lacked variety. Also they introduced a seafood section on the Lido deck where the food was available for purchase. It seems they are encouraging guests to buy food on the cruise by creating long waiting lines at other food sections.

Would you recommend -

I would encourage you to also compare experience with Royal Carribean cruise and then decide. Jamaica and Cayman Island are great locations to visit.

over all exspectations! by SonyaDelgado

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was a ruff start, but once on our way it was refreshing to enter our room and see that the cabin was cleaned. The restaurant as always was at their best, with a cuisine that impressed my taste buds!  Hats off to the waiters whom greeted us with resect, kindness and a dispassion of grace and perfection! Service on deck was a bit slow, I feel that they could have generated more revenue if they would have made themselves more available, yet the drinks were made to perfection in both flavor and adequate alcohol content, as not to intoxicate the passenger but to set a relaxing mood for the occasion! The movie nights were well organized with delightful choices of each time frame and the audience at each time frame! I always choose Carnival because of it's excellence and because of Michael or first cabin gentleman that let us know what was going on throughout the day each day, so you see with his advice on the daily events we were able to understand how to make the best of our trip. Michael not only kept us informed, but he greeted us with such enthusiasm as if we were family coming by for a visit! Michael is why we continue to book with Carnival in hopes to see him once more for that feeling on coming home to celebrate our journey towards an adventure well planed and executed!!  Thank you Carnival Please let Michael know we miss him and hope to see him on day as he is so appreciated for his excellent above and beyond his call of duty! He was and I am sure is the best employee at Carnival Cruz Line! The gym is a blessing as well and the gentleman that respectful helped with the free stretches and abs was an amazing sweet young man that deserves recognition for his service he went above and beyond in welcoming me each morning that I attended making me feel that he was waiting for each of us with his wonderful smile! this young man with his dark hair with the clarity of his speech instructed the class with kindness that demonstrated  the welcoming sprit I look forward to at each adventure with Carnival Cruz Line! Thank you these two gentlemen stand out above all! Big Smile

Carnival Conquest by Royalgal

Favorite part of the cruise was the tour of Ochio Rios, Jamaica.   Tour guide Suzette was awesome and she was very informative about her native land.

I would have liked to have the opportunity on future cruises to be a part of the early dining room seating vs. 8:00pm.

Food was great, entertainment was great as well.

50th Anniversary cruise by 2RetireeCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Twelve family members on board. Everyone, including 4 youngest were able to do their own thing.  Bought soda cards for 8,9,10 & 13 year old and they had a blast having soda, pizza, hamburgers, ice cream when they wanted it. They had never been on a cruise and ended up in a show, and got to know the Cruise Director and she them by name.   Was able to get a family picture of 12 which is almost an impossibility as 6 live in Virginia and 6 in Florida.  Everyone had a great time.  Husband needed wheel chair assistance on & off ship and Carnival and Fort Lauderdale terminal personnel couldn't have been any nicer nor more helpful.  Thanks for making this a wonderful trip that none of us will ever forget. HappyHappyHappy

I have an onion allergy and there was onions in almost everything.  If no in it, on it for garnish.  Pizza's were fresh unlike some of the dining room meals.  It seems like they have cut back on the whole experience.

I really enjoyed the ports we stopped at.  The ship was beautiful.  Customer service at the front desk was stellar.  In the dining room for anytime dining, the Service Team including Komang, Savio and Larimer was exceptional.  Unfortunatly we didn't meet them until day 6.  The service on all other nights was fair to poor.  The waiter would bring my entree when I was only a couple of bites into my salad, I had to poor my own water and the staff brought me the wrong dishes more than once.

Our room steward Arnata was thorough, efficient, friendly and conscientious always going the extra mile for us.  He was greatly appreciated.
