This cruise was not my first so maybe I have higher expectations than what this ship was going to offer however having basic needs met for hospitality and food quality was despicable. I will not sail with Carnival again due to how I am not sure they can improve without a total restructuring of their Guest Services, Hospitality and Food Service departments.

With people that are setting up cash accounts, they should be handed their keys at the point of setting them up. To have them in unsecure mailboxes once activated was not a great start. Should filter the lines for photography and those who choose not to. Separating the lines for the cruiser to choose would make them more likely to want to get a photo instead of feeling like they are coerced to. Muster stations could have fans overhead or NB on ground that staff can remove and store for hot weather as you have 100+ people in small area getting hotter and angrier as waiting for everyone to show up to actual stations before starting the instructions. Have shorter staff stand on small platform or stand to demonstrate to those in back that cannot see. Have more staff with brightly colored clothes inform people that they do not have to gather at guest services in a line. There was many people that did not need to be there waiting for no reason. Cuts line forming down to a minimum and leaves more open spaces for people to get through as it led out into the elevator area on floor 3. Have sail and sign kiosk on at least 3 floors with an ATM option nearby. It was only available on two floors. Lines formed on those as well. Have information in staterooms that can find balance on the app when profile is set up.

Food and Dining

Lines were atrocious at almost all hours of the day between buffet and other options available blue iguana Cantina and Guys Burger i.e. .. limit 2 plate per person at time of order. Lines leak into pool areas and with the buffet you are waiting 20+ mins sometimes. (Cantina example: line was 5 people around 1pm , usually busy. Got in line. Waited about 10-15 mins more than should because lady two persons ahead ordered a taco bowl and three burritos. Then guy behind her three shrimp burritos. The staff had to refill prep multiple times for not a large amount of people. The wait wasn't terrible but if you had stations assigned to staff and a limit of 2. The line of 5 wouldn't have jumped so large to about 15+ if the staff didn't have to prepare 4 more orders more than they should have for just the individuals I witnessed behind me.
The buffet lines would go smoother if there was staff to plate the dishes instead of cruisers allowed to. Cruisers were spilling food items, placing spoons in other dishes which could be cross contamination. If cruisers were left to just hold the dish it would keep the line from backing up and cruisers less of a chance to be indecisive.
Carnival deli had nice selection of menu. Again limit was not set and with one person sometimes left to take orders, prepare sandwich, put in ovens and plate afterwards was alot to witness. Also with cruisers ordering multiple sandwiches. A line of 5-10 people would easily make it a 30 min wait. I see it working with three staff minimum. One person in taking orders and prep. Passes sandwich off to oven where watch timers and can take each sandwich out as intended. Have it passes to another staff who puts sides on and hands to cruiser. Nice even flow was never here but food was delicious.
Sushi was great. Virtually no lines because of purchase option as I guessed. Although recommend keeping same rolls but maybe add a chef's special roll or even roll of the day to the never changing menu. All week remained the same with flawless sushi. Maybe photos of rolls would encourage those who haven't tried sushi to not be so intimidated by when they read ingredients. While eating rolls , I witnessed multiple people not understanding and just walking away instead of asking questions like carnival may assume. on last day, there was one staff working in sushi completely overwhelmed with orders and no help. I didn't mind the wait but informed carniv employee to maybe notify manager of issue and she replied with "I'm sorry not my department" after speaking a bit more she agreed to let supervisor know. Not fair to the employee.
Alchemy Bar

Pleasant bar experience. Bartender was professional and makes signature mixed drinks on special menu for that bar in particular.
BlueIguana Cantina
5 out of 5
They had the most consistent food on the ship. Authentic arepas and taco bowls.
Blues Piano Bar

Singer was great and responsive to cruiser requests. Loved to interact and was pleasant experience.
BlueIguana Tequila Bar

Bartenders did not seem to care to serve you if you didn't have drink package. Seemed to favor those cruisers instead of being neutral .
Steakhouse

Food was great but wait staff was completely unprofessional and ruined the whole dining experience. Seems they have no real training and just picked someone off the street and told them to serve food.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Ship was overcrowded and the pools were small and seemed unclean. They claim all the hot tubs were "broken" waiting to be fixed because they were lukewarm which is like a tub of bacteria. It was definitely unsanitary.
Serenity

Nice quiet area. It had cabanas and hammocks to lay on which was nice. Hot tubs were lukewarm and non regulated as people stayed in there for more than an hour drinking.
Guest Services / Shore Excursions
3 out of 5
No staff to stand near lines to see if they even need to stand there. Most of time cruiser would wait 30 minutes just to be told to use the app or go to kiosk leaving them upset and angry.
Fitness Studio
2 out of 5
One of the beams was held up by duct tape. The machines were good for gym size.
The Fun Shops
1 out of 5
Just souvenirs and nothing of use for example sunscreen, aloe or snacks. Tons of people would take advantage of that rather than buy overpriced clothes and jewelry.
Jogging Track

Around back of ship. Opposite side of Gym as that was in front.
Tahiti Casino
4 out of 5
Strange system for slots. It states charge to room but it really is sail n sign card which is loaded through a kiosk with cash or card that is on file. When charges the room it charges card but can't use card in casino.
Spa Carnival
2 out of 5
Decieving offers. Be careful of using discounts and 18% automatic gratuity is already added so dont tip extra unless you want to.
Painter's Library
2 out of 5
Messy and needs updating. Games were thrown in cabinet and books unorganized. They didn't have daily crossword puzzle available as in pamphlet.
Beauty Salon
1 out of 5
Everything overpriced. A manicure pedicure was over 100$ and the cheapest service available.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
They didn't have any performances that stood out. The comedy shows was the most popular aspect of the week and it completely overfilled the Degas Lounge by over 50 people making it cramped and standing when It should have been hosted in the main theater area and closed at capacity.
Degas Aft Lounge
3 out of 5
Needs a facelift. Let it overcrowd so the entertainment in there can't be enjoyed by everyone as there are people constantly filling in and out and standing all over the place.
Henri's Dance Club
4 out of 5
They had good sitting area and big dancefloor. DJ played newer music.
Pissaro Art Gallery
4 out of 5
Wide variety of art available for purchase. Many opportunities to see and view the art before auction.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Room steward was polite but did not even change our bedsheets. They made the bed with the comforter but once that was removed you could still see the sheet was old. Waiters did not seem well trained and remained very casual even in formal dining room.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
Needs to be updated. At one point when working out in gym, a beam was held up by duct tape. It was horrible to see as a cruiser and made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The size was comfortable and space was good. The bathroom tile in shower needed maintenance as there was cracks and holes in it. Also it was strange there was only one US outlet. All rest were UK outlets which was major inconvenience.
Ship tip
I would not sail with Carnival on any ship of theirs under any circumstance. It is worth the extra money to sail with another line.
The island is in disrepair from Hurricane Irma and Maria. The locals are living in broken down homes and there is virtually no sign of functional society just poor people and animals trying to survive with limited resources. There were starving and diseased animals all over which was heartbreaking to see. It was unsafe for tourists to travel on and not in any condition for tourism.
No excursion. This port was very nice. Safe walking areas and cathedral and restaurants were great. Perfect for a day in the city and if you need supplies from pharmacy as ship did not have any resources of this kind on board just souvenirs to purchase.
No excursion. It felt as if the port was secluded to a main shopping area and it felt unsafe to travel outside the bounds of that area. If you weren't interested in purchasing anything, it was a waste of a day .
Plenty for shoppers and had a sky bar which was great. They also had a resort that cruisers could use for the pool and water slide area. Went on excursion through BJ's for Beach Horseback Riding. Excursion was phenomenal and worth the money with Marisol Tours.
They gave everyone on the ship the opportunity to put their luggage out and pick it up in the terminal. Rather than have people pre purchase this option prior to sailing or during cruise until last day, they let everyone so it seemed impossible for them to anticipate how many bags they would handle and how to avoid pickup lines when in the terminal after disembarking the ship. The terminal ended up being full and they kept everyone from leaving include my friend and I with questions that crew could not answer. I can only assume everyone's baggage was there and it caused the people to have to search through hundreds of bags to find their own causing a delay in leaving the terminal. I understand special needs and disability persons should have priority for this as it would be difficult for them to wait in the lines and manuever in the crowds I noticed. Everyone was gathered in main lobby in chaos and in theater all angry and complaining that Carnival does not have any organization which it did not display at all throughout the week. I was so dissapointed as this was my first cruise with Carnival and for our birthdays. It completely ruined our special trip.
Definitely do not cruise again. I couldn’t even get through the plethora of complaints in your review. But, I will say this, you’d be the first to complain if you got in a buffet line and was told you could only get X number of items or plates. And, you think it slows down a line when people are serving themselves, what do you think it would do if Carnival had people there serving them? Do you change your sheets everyday at home?
I bet you're a blast to vacation with! You probably got upset on the way home when you stopped for gas and the station didn't provide a person to pump your gas and feed you snacks.
It definitely sounds like cruising is not for you or you need to do much more research if you ever decide to cruise again. You didn’t really seem happy with much of anything.
Doesn't sound like you have cruised before. Luggage pick up evening before and transport to terminal standard on all cruise lines. You have the choice of removing your luggage yourself if you wish.
