Review summary

We like to see new and old places with friends. A nice calm relaxing atmosphere is a must. We expect goid service and good food. I have acid indigestion so spicy food is not good for me. I don’t need anything fancy but I do like my food thoroughly cooked especially pork. The buffets were the worst we ever encountered. Planks went out of there way to satisfy me and produced an excellent choice for me. For the most part the Msin Dining Room did the same but a couple times all the selections were already sauced in a spicy way—like curry Indian style. Crown Grill is always excellent. The ship was worn out—time to let the lady retire.

Embarkation

It was 14 days Caribbean islands. The itinerary was changed because of the hurricane. I know that Princess spent $$$ on redoing it. She looks tired and worn out. The common areas aereok. The buffet was small-there were two sides but one was always closed so it was difficult to get a seat. Choices were one fish, onemeat and sandwiches. Very spicy choices. The pork leg was always bloody. I wouldn’t call it a buffet. Main dining was better but also had spicy sauces on everything—even the lobster. They had fried chicken one night but only dark meat. Good thing about this-I lost 10lbs. We were in a mini suite—it was noisy because the ship must have had engine problems. The last night we were pushed into port by a tug barge underneath our room. Our room shook and creaked. I guess Regal and Royal ruined us because I won’t go on this ship again. I had been on it several years ago but this time it was shabby. I have pictures if anyone wants to see them just ask.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Crown Grill always great. Planks has excellent staff like Jason. Salty dog was ok. Buffet gets a very low rating.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Casino needs some updates but most of them do. Some of the ports were not safe. Locals told us horror stories.

Entertainment

Too crowded so skipped.

Children's Programs

No kids.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Room steward great. Main dining room staff tried to get me food that wasn’t spicy. One night there just wasn’t anything so he got a burger and made it look like a chopped steak. Front desk scolded me for being in suite line. We had a mini-suite which she told me is not a suite. I told her to specify it on the sign.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The tub drained poorly before and after plumber. The carpet used as baseboards is pulling away from wall. The walls had a lot of scrapes. Sofa is old and worn. Room had two tvs sitting next to each other—why? You couldn’t watch two programs because the remote changed both of them.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
As the clerk told me don’t call it a suite because it isn’t. Nice balcony. Just old and shabby. Maybe my expectations were too high.

We did the check-ahead luggage. This meant we had to give off ship at 8–said something about customs then sit on the bus until 10am.

We were on the 14 day Caribbean cruise on the Caribbean Princess. In my opinion the ship was in good condition not shabby. Yes it is older than Regal, Royal class ships but that is expected. The upgrades in the buffet area were nice. Food about the same as on other Princess ships. We enjoyed the production shows. If the theatre was crowded all show were simulcasted in the Explorers lounge. Caribbean Princess launched in 2004 so some wear and tear is expected. Overall enjoyed our 14 day Caribbean cruise. Just so fortunate to be healthy and cruising to complain.

Good to hear that the food staff went so far out of their way to try to please you. You must really be sensitive to spice because Princess food is typically on the bland side in my experience.

The ship was refurbished in April just before our transatlantic cruise. We had a great cruise, never a problem with food or staff. The new food choices were great. Since I’m a member of the older generation I find the Princess cruises the most relaxing. It gets 5 stars from me
