To anyone who is considering using princess cruise lines, please read the following all the way through before making your decision.
A small background about me. I am a single 29 year old RN who specializes in helping cancer patients. I only get three weeks off a year (that includes my sick time). I have never traveled anywhere or done anything because I have dedicated myself to helping others. I dont usually complain about things and tend to go with the flow.
This year, I decided to celebrate my 29th birthday by finally going to see Ireland and Scotland. I was told that Princess cruise lines would be perfect for me due to more luxury, amazing food/rooms and next to no kids (I have none and did not want to have to deal with the whining, misbehaving or complaining). I was very excited and took two full weeks off (out of only three im allowed a year). I even pre-booked my shore excursions and a spa package.
However, my time on board was anything but amazing. If it was not for the amazing time on land, my vacation would have been completely ruined instead of mostly ruined. If it was just one or two things, it would not have been a big deal. However, the following list is too long to be just me (which was confirmed when I talked with many of the other guests). However, this is my account and I can not speak for anyone else.
My issues we as follows:
1. I thought there would be very few kids but I guess with the 4th holiday, there are quite a few. in fact, had a family with three kids on my 8hr shore excursion that ruined it for me by the constantly whining and talking and complaining and what not; could barely hear the tour guides interesting facts most of time. The cruise line really should warn people if kids are on that particular shore excursion. upon complaining, they blew me off saying sorry, nothing we could do. asked for a refund stating i didn't get what i paid for/didnt enjoy it, they said they couldnt but i could write it and maybe they could submit it for evaluation.
2. I've noticed that they treat groups way better than solo travelers.
3. They cancelled my 1st shore excursion without even telling me. I only found out when I went down to ask for my ticket.
4. I pre-booked a spa package and they seemed to have no idea what it was and gave me the run around for the first two days (despite me asking to book it on July 7th: 1st day at sea). Then when they finally got everything straightened out, that day was already booked- had to chose a different day (second to last day was all they had left).
5. On my day in at guernsey, I arrived at the port for the tender to take me back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. There was a long line, no big deal because I was told it would move quickly. It took 3 hours to get back onto the ship. No one kept us up to date and they only started giving out water at the end. By that time, I was already sunburned and very dehydrated (did not have any alcohol at all) and was becoming symptomatic. I almost had to go to onboard doctor just to get IV hydration but luckily was ok after chugging A LOT of water into the next morning (had splitting headache until about 430am local time). I understand they can not control how rough the sea is but someone should have kept us informed and started giving us water way sooner.
6. The food onboard is horrible and/or cold most of the time. The breakfast also has the same things everyday- quite disappointing. The bread on dinner table is always so hard.
- I lost a total of 5 pounds in my vacation. I was 181.8lbs the morning I left for vacation and was 176.6 lbs when I got back (which considering i was on day 1 of my period and bloated, probably had lost more than that actually)
7. I pre-ordered the unlimited soda and more package because they said they have variety of coke products. However, they only have coke, diet coke and sprite- none of which I drink. it was false advertising in my opinion because it sounded like they had a good variety and they don't. So, more money wasted.
-They also informed me that even though I have the unlimited soda and more, I cant have can soda, only fountain soda- which is always flat (my receipt I printed did not say only fountain, had no * or any other indications that it was fountain only. However, once on board that was when they said it was). I was also not allowed a refund of that either.
8. The bed was barely ok (lumpy), everything else was not. The tv sound kept cutting in and out despite what level I put volume on.
9. The bathroom is ridiculously small. The shower was so small that any time I moved my arms even slightly away from my body, it went out of shower. im tall and slim- so that is ridiculous.
10. The crew on the ship are mostly useless. If you ask a simple question (like if the outlets are ok for USA plugs or if I need my adapter, no one seemed to know). Most ignored me and instead chatted with their coworkers. If I interrupted, I wad given a dirty look.
11. I got so tired of complaining and only hearing "sorry but nothing we can do." I even tried calling but no success. On several occasions I was placed on hold and then hung up on and/or it timed out. its ridiculous. room service did the same thing to me.
12.The air in the room. I put it at the coldest setting and it was still quite warm.
13. There are quite a few cracked tiles on the floor of my bathroom (which I know does not interfere with function but still).
14. It is also almost impossible to get cold water in the shower. Sometimes the water is so scalding hot that I had to leave the water on for quite awhile just to cool down. I talked to another couple at shared dining who had same problem. They called and no one came. So after an hour, they called again and still no one came. Then after another hour they went down and got the plumber to come up. It shouldn't be that hard.
15. According to their online info, I should have had a bottle water in my room- there wasn't.
16. The fridge wasn't cold and there is nothing inside (no bottle water in there either).
17. when I was in the dining room and decided to eat alone, it was like they forget about me. I see couples usually get their food within about 15 minutes on average. However, mine was about 30 minutes (for same dish).
-it took 1.5 hours to complete my meal in Italian restaurant (with just me).
18. I also find it quite ridiculous that as much as I paid for the cruise (single people/travelers have to pay more), I also had to pay a $25-30 cover charge for most food places. I wouldn't even eat that much worth of food. It would be more understandable to pay for meal than that!
-I will admit the only decent food I did eat was in the italian restaurant. That being said, couldn't make any changes to items on menu because they are "pre-made already". The soup I ordered with mushrooms had two very thinly sliced half mushroom pieces (probably equaled about 1/10 of one mushroom. When I looked at the table next to me when theirs was brought over, it was very obvious that they both had a lot of mushrooms in their bowls). The seafood pasta had two shrimp, a bunch of clam shells but only one small clam.
19. Constantly changing water temperature while in the shower.
20. The onboard entertainment was a joke and bad.
21. There was an "unhosted singles and solo traveler" event onboard which was also a joke. Next to no one there and no actual activity other than sitting at bar with handful of people drinking.
22. They don't update onboard account very often (today july 5, last updated 2nd).
23. There was speakers in the room and bathroom for overhead announcements but could not hear anything on them. I had to go out into hallway or main area to hear it.
24. The orange juice very water down.
25. Even when I was told the egg whites are completely cooked, I cut them open to find runny egg whites every time.
26. To be able to enjoy a relaxing adult only area, I had to pay a fee. each time
27. I went to 4 different bar locations to try to get a fountain coke before morning tours and they were all closed. every time.
28. As far as the internet I bought and paid for on board. It would say I was connected. It would take my minutes. However, whenever I brought open something (internet browser, messenger or even facebook) they all said I was not connected.
29. The photo guy came into Italian restaurant on my birthday (I was wearing my birthday tiara) and offered to take pictures of every other guest but me (I was eating alone).
30. I tried to buy something. The lady walked away as I went up to the register. I waited almost 4 minutes before I gave up (so I pulled out a piece of paper, wrote "congrats! you just missed a sale") and walked away.
31. I went into vines (general store). I wondered about an item so I asked the store clerk in clear voice my question. He turned around and went over to a lady on opposite side of store who had just walked in, picked up a flyer and started asking about if she has tried it. The lady hadnt even asked for him or acknowledge that she needed help.
32. It was suppose to be smoke free in the ship. I saw people smoking in casino in non smoking part. I also could smell the smoke from cigarettes near my room more often than not.
33. When ordering room service, they wouldn't bring me soda of any kind despite having the package.
34. I went to get an ice cream cone. I finally get to front and was told I would have to get it in a bowl (they could put cone on top if I liked- guess the soft serve was too soft?).
35. They were ok with knocking on my door when they needed something (passport or turn down). However, my pamper me package didn't get delivered to my room until 7-8-15). I only had one message to let me know.
36. I was at steamers seafood for dinner (alone). The waitress brought bread to my table, I told her I was ready to order. She said ok, turned around and went to the table with a couple to wait on them first.
-Also, the fish was so mushy it was not edible. I also got slightly sick from eating that food. the rest of the seafood was so bland.
37. I was told there was no avocado at all on board (wanted to make an omelette with avocado on top). Then at steamers, one of my meals had avocado in it.
38. south queensferry-I was waiting to disembark for shore excursion extra 40 minutes. No one told us why. I finally went to talk re:concerns about my tour that afternoon. Then they told us there was medical disembark and that was hold up.
-my morning tour was shorted by 30 minutes. Which meant that instead of 45 minutes in the castle, I only had about 10-15 to get through entire castle, church and gardens, which ruined the experience. I tried again to complain and get a partial refund but did not receive anything for any of the ruined trips.
39. I went to a second unhosted single/solo traveler get together. I was the only person to show up. The bar was completely empty except the staff and I. They were standing around chatting and laughing. When a waiter finally came over, I asked for water. He walked the 7-10 steps back to bar. After 6 minutes waiting for my water and still not getting it, I got up and walked out.
40. A kid was running down narrow hallway, getting in peoples way and parents watched him.
41. I paid for a 50 minute massage. I figured the other 10 minutes of the hour were for changing. I showed up 15 minutes early per the spa recommendation. The massage started at 803am and she stopped at 845a. That definitely was not a full 50 minutes. I also asked not to touch my feet because im very ticklish- she did. I asked no oil in my hair- she did some.
42. They do have a laundromat on the floor (3 machines) but have to pay to use them and pay for detergent if didnt bring own.
43. In beginning of cruise, I was told I had to buy ticket to get off boat if I just wanted to explore on own. Then towards the end, someone else said that wasnt true at all.
44. The water pressure in bathroom sink is barely there/non existent.
45. The bus driver in France was constantly on his cell while driving. I even took a picture. everyone knows that isn't safe and yet princess is apparently ok with it. luckily we didn't have an accident but again- shouldn't have occurred.
46. When they did have lobster for dinner (in regular dining area), it was tasteless and not good at all. If that would have been my first time having lobster, I would never eat it again.
47. I decided to do the shore excursion to the palace of versailles, which included the gardens and lunch. However, that is grossly overstated. It was really a walk through the gardens to lunch. Then, after I had already taken a seat at lunch, I was asked to move so that a group on the tour could sit there since I came by myself. Apparently, it is ok for me to fill a seat by itself but splitting a group is unthinkable.
48. In the dining room final night of dinner, I actually saw them pre-set a table with a huge gorgeous bowl of salad, different appetizers, bread, etc. before the people even showed up. Yet it took them quite awhile to even get me seated/get me shrimp cocktail. Then, when I asked for a refill on my coke, they seemed surprised. Yet that other table had all their drinks (including specialty alcohol drinks) within 60 seconds of sitting down.
49. I called front desk to see if they have a scale so I can weigh my luggage, they said they do and can have someone up in 15 minutes. After 30 minutes, no one had come up. I called and they said someone should be up soon. Another 30 minutes go by and still no one. So, I called again and got the same line, someone should be up soon. After two hours of waiting since I first called, I called again begging to send anyone who could please just weigh my bag so I can go to sleep and get off the ship first thing. I also said that me having to wait for two hours ruined any chance of going out and trying to enjoy the last night on the ship. Again, I was told someone would be right up. It took them another 27 minutes (thats a total of 2hr 27min). From the time he knocked on my door to the time he was done weighing my one bag was about 45 seconds btw
50. The day to go back to airport. I was finally off ship. I was about to get on bus. I saw other people allowed to take their suitcase on the bus. So, I told the bus driver I want to take mine on board as well and I was denied because it was too big. The bus was less than half filled. No one sat next to me. There was plenty of room.
51. The breakfast the last morning. I saw a worker sneeze into his hands, not wash them and continued messing with food at buffet. I stopped eating. I still got sick.
52. I was told my bottle of whisky would be in my room by the time I returned from my trip in France but it wasn't. I went back to front desk, they got ahold of the person and said they would be on their way. I went back to room. After 20 minutes, I got a call saying it would be awhile before he could get back to my room. I wanted to go eat dinner (was about 730pm by this point), he said to go ahead and would leave it just inside my door.
53. Following the cruise, I went online to submit my concerns to receive a refund for being treated so badly that I ended up crying myself to sleep more than once. The website only allows 3000 characters max. After 15 submissions- it would not let me do anymore. The automatic email I received said someone would contact me within 2-3 business days. It took over a week to get a call (went to voicemail because I was at work helping my patients). I called backed and the person was unavailable. I tried the next day, still not available. Called monday, her voice mail stated she took day off. When I called main number and asked if there was anyone else that could possibly help me, I was told no, the only person who was allow to authorize a refund was her. So, I left another voicemail. Then today (a week and a half later), she called and left me a voice mail. I called back and left voicemail. Then she called back and finally spoke with me. She stated that my file was reviewed and they could only offer me a $500 credit toward future cruise. I asked her why would I want to be treated badly again? All I wanted was refund. She said she couldnt. I asked her if there was someone else I could talk to- she said my file was already reviewed and this was all they will offer to me.
So please, save your money and go somewhere else. Also, please forward this to others so that they wont be treated badly. People should be made aware of what really happens. Thank you

Thank you

She said she couldnt. I asked her if there was someone else I could talk to- she said my file was already reviewed and this was all they will offer to me.
So please, save your money and go somewhere else. Also, please forward this to others so that they wont be treated badly. People should be made aware of what really happens. Thank you

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you
Ship tip
Do not cruise with princess. That is the best advice I can give
on land was ok, tour info was misleading (not a tour of gardens, just walked through to get to restaurant where food was not very good), and being ignored and treated badly by crew ruined it
Wow. No I did t read it all. Sounds to me that you are not the type that can go with the flow. Don’t think any cruise line would work for you. Try a land vacay.
It's unfortunate you had such a bad experience and completely understandable that you would not want to return again. I've never experienced anything like you have and at least 90% of my cruises are solo cruises. I've actually received extra perks when it became known I was cruising alone. Again it's unfortunate you had such a bad experience. I love cruising and start each adventure with an open mind and a "go with the flow attitude. I expect there to be kids running around, I expect a meal or two to be just okay, I expect large groups to be accommodated. Most importantly I always find a way to enjoy my vacation, I don't place alot of expectations on the cruise line, however I've never been disappointed in the service I've received.
I had to stop reading at 22... I'm sorry you had such a miserable time but damn ! You will never be pleased by anything or anyone.... I hope you never take another cruise cause you would be a terrible table mate and company 🙄
We did exactly the same cruise and enjoyed every minute of it. We have sailed over 500 days on Princess and over 1,000 days on all cruise lines combined. We have also had many, many land based vacations and in my opinion, Cruising is the best use of my vacation dollars and is the only way I travel today. In my xperience, Princess is a great cruise line and have always treated me in a way that entices me to come back for more.
If, I'll say that again If, this is a genuine review then honey it's no wonder your single, next time you could do better staying home with your doors locked and a well stocked fridge, at least that way there won't be anyone to blame but yourself if you don't have a good time........................but then maybe you only have yourself to blame this time too. We have NEVER had a bad cruise with Princess, if we had as we all know sometimes things can, do and will go wrong from time to time, so just take in your stride, shrug it off and get on with enjoying everything else, the only time I would stop cruising with this line is if EVERYTHING went wrong ALL the time on EVERY cruise taken.............then it would be time to call it day and stay at home, lock the doors with a well stocked fridge..........oh already suggested that.............:\
I don't believe this person went on this cruise, I think she is a Troll. Her complaints are somewhat contradictory in several areas. This is just made up rubbish. We have done 8 cruises with Princess and never experienced anything like this. This person is either mentally ill or if they genuinely did take this cruise, they are looking for big compensation or a free cruise. If Princess did offer her $500 I bet it was on condition she never cruised with them again!
Is this a joke? If not, please don't cruise again. I unfortunately read all the way through, reading some highlights and lowlights to my husband. I really DID NOT need to know the reason your weight loss might have more than 5 pounds! If you had scanned the forums, carefully read the Princess literature or asked some questions prior to cruising, I think you might have had a better experience; then again from your manifesto, I think not❗️ You should definitely use your three weeks of annual time doing something other than cruising‼️‼️
You obviously did zero research.
You are clearly a miserable person.
181 pounds is not "slim"
You wore a tiara to dinner for your birthday and are over the age of 10.
Enough said.
Loved my cruise and loved Princess. I research every vacation I take, and none will be perfect.
Sounds to me, you should have done a bit of research before cruising. 90% of your complaint could have been found easily on the website, other online venues, etc. no cruise if 100% perfect, and they certainly are not 100% horrible as you make it sound. You failed to list one positive thing about your cruise. A refund was not due, and 500$ towards a future cruise was MORE than fair.
If someone complains with this level of detail including so many trivial things, I feel sorry for them. A cruise, or vacation in general, as is life is what YOU make it. Nothing will be ever be perfect. It doesn't help to blame everything on everyone else, Whether you choose to allow the good things or the bad things to influence you the most is up to you.
Thinking it's time to pull this entire convo down and off the site. Everything possible has been said to the author who is now changing their name from softballchick88 to aaaaaa and makes one believe that it is a fake review. It's sad, it's awkward and more than plenty of feedback has been provided. Suggest to the monitors of the site to take it down. What more can be said. Let's move on.
I'm betting if you tossed your diary over board when you boarded the ship you could have had a good time. However, you spend your time complaining. I would like to ask you how many times did you need to recharge your device in order to whine as much as you did?
This is the most ridiculous list of complaints I have ever seen. The entitlement I see here is above and beyond. Are your parents this absurd too, or did you develop that all on your own?
Your kidding right? Someone that can type that many words should stop and read (or think) first. A little research would have saved you a bunch of writing.
To the 29 year old RN who left the same review over and over again bashing Princess: If this was your first cruise, go on some other lines and then decide who did a better job. If you have cruised before, and can only find the negatives, please do not cruise on Princess again. For the moderators of this forum: Can you please do something about leaving the same review over and over by the same person? It is annoying to have to click through it. Thanks! Happy Princess Cruisers
I was on this sailing with you. We had an amazing time. You have two legitimate complaints. The tendering issue at Gurnsey, and the water temperature issues in the shower. I could address this diatribe point by point, but most of these issues are of your own making. (And honestly insane!
A kid brushed passed you in the hallway, really?) It almost looks as though you walked around with a notebook and pen to jot down every slight inconvenience you encountered, in order to get yourself a free trip. Do you realize the crew talks, and we're probably either warned about you, or were just so fed up with all your complaining... they ignored you. Did you remove your tips by any chance? If you did, just know the crew knows about that too. You won't get the service everyone else does. I've been on 35 or 36 cruises, I have never in my life seen a review for a ship like this, and I've seen plenty of reviews. It scares me that you work with medically fragile people. I hope to gawd that you're not acting like this at home, although it would explain some things if you are. If it was just a scam to get a free cruise ok, if this is who you really are.. get counseling.
I am a former crew member with 18+ years of experience in companies such as RCI, DCL, Celebrity, Princess, MSC and Crystal in .any ranks as Restaurant Waiter, Bar Waiter, Shorex and International Host and believe me....it's is the first time ever I see a complain like this and it's hard to believe all of the points on it are true. Before even thinking about going to sea I did 2 years of Psychology in college and that little knowledge makes me think that this gentleman has some "issues". Doing solo cruises is OK and a very common practice but going to the restaurant alone, booking excursions alone and thinking that everybody is against you itsn't normal. The fact he does a very hard job taking care of patients with cancer gives me the impression that he does it more for recognition than for the mere porppse of helping others, even mention it in the begining of his letter is senseless ...I don't want to sound rude but I honestly and respectfully think he needs help by an specialist.
OMG I really feel sorry for you. It is very apparent that you did no research prior to booking your cruise. Yes there will be children on ships especially around holidays and there are cruises that specialize in singles only. Drink package states fountain and no room service. Small bathrooms are you kidding me (normal) There are speakers in the cabins, but only used for emergencies. You have to order and pay for bottled water in rooms. The table you saw already set with salad etc. was the Chef's table that people pay an extra fee to eat there. The shops are self serve and I don't know what you wanted to buy but sorry you didn't get it. Yes you pay extra for using loungers in the sanctuary. It's your fault that you took no water on the excursion. The Princess Patter explained that there would be long lines getting back on the ship at tender ports. Your cruise is what you make it and apparently you ruined your vacation with an attitude. I cruised on this ship four times last year and I love it. Good luck and I hope you find a vacation that will make you happy.
I might add that maybe it is time for you to change your employment field. Being in a nursing position can normally be such a rewarding job. But, I can see that it is totally bringing you down. This is NOT good for your mental health. You can still offer so much, but, make it where there is hope, not cancer, which is more often a negative ending. You are still young enough to change. Most cruisers return home with their next trip already booked. Time for your glass to be Half Full. Good Luck!
Wow, all I can say is that your expectations were certainly not in line with any cruise. If you sail in the summer - there are going to be loads of kids.
If you complained like this on the ship, I can guarantee that is why the employees were not so nice to you. You work as a nurse in precarious situations - of all people you should appreciate that you are healthy and can take a cruise - are you this nitpicky in your life?
It appears you did not have a clue what to expect on a cruise - maybe if you hadn't been alone you would have had a better time. But I feel sorry for you if all you had time to do with find every little things that was wrong. If you didn't want kids - sail when kids are in school. 4th of July has the MOST kids on the ships. If you wanted a bigger shower - you should have booked a suite. All bathrooms are tiny on ships. If you didn't care for the food - did you try going to one of the pay restaurants? If you didn't like Coke, why on earth would you buy a Coke package? That is a a variety - coke, diet code and sprite. I could rebut every single one of your complaints but I haven't got time.
I don't think a Ritz Carlton vacation would have satisfied you I hope anyone reading your review ignores it.
I have never in my life seen a review that was so totally out of touch with expectations. Did you use a travel agent and ask what to expect on a cruise?
FULL DISCLOSURE before I comment. I am a travel agent, however, I am in no way indebted to any cruise line or vacation supplier. NOW, a confession, I wanted to jump on the band wagon with everyone else and say maybe cruising isn't your thing. That being said, I DID read all the way through your concerns and decided to offer a small bit of education instead. In reading all the way through, I found some of your complaints to be valid and some to be a possible lack of experience regarding what to expect when cruising. For instance, the size of the shower facilities - they are the same industry wide unless of course you move up to a suite; children on board ANY cruise ship, especially during a holiday - should be expected regardless of where you are traveling; paying for laundry facilities - is common - free is unique, etc. If a worker sneezed into his hands and didn't wash, management should have been notified immediately. You, devoting your time, talents and energy in the health industry, know better than most, how unsanitary that is. Any problems with your shore excursions, like the one you mentioned about the bus driver talking on his cell while driving, cannot be controlled by Princess. That too, should have been reported to Princess so they can, in turn, contact the owner of the excursion company to make a report. I have cruised MANY times (before I became a travel agent and many times after) and can tell you, all cruise lines are different in many ways. What they ALL have in common is that they want to make sure you have a positive experience. I truly understand that your experience wasn't what you had hoped (in a number of ways) and will suggest that next time you would like to spend your hard earned vacation time and money, use a travel agent. Many travel agents, like myself, do not charge a fee for our services. If you had used an agent, he/she would have worked as your advocate and would have saved you so much grief trying to get a response. That being said, travel agents can do a LOT, however, a complete refund should never be expected for the items you have outlined. Most compensation is given in the form of future travel credit or on board credit, so what was offered to you was not out of line. I might add, for your future reference, if you need to submit a customer service issue, to any company, stay brief. Your review here is 3000+ words (not characters), too much for anyone to possibly read through when looking for a serious review. If 3000 characters (not words) is not enough for you to submit a complaint online, then I might suggest writing a letter the old fashioned way and have it delivered via certified mail to ensure the appropriate person receives your complaint. My comments are not in anyway meant to minimize your experience but to arm you with better knowledge for your future travels. Best wishes.
What irks me the most out of your ramblings, would be that you're an RN that works at times with dying patients. My daughter is an RN has worked in Hospice Care but she is sweet, empathetic and caring. You on the other hand, resemble Nurse Ratched.
Do you wonder why nobody wanted to sit with you, or ignored you? You sound like the rudest most awful person who has been on a cruise. Who sits on their own their birthday? I would imagine the entire crew of the ship and the passengers knew what a moaner you were and kept well away. You are very young to be such a grumpy person. I have never read such a load of old twaddle in my life. Sounds like all you wanted was a free cruise. I sincerely hope I never ever encounter you on a cruise, on land or anywhere.
Ok so first I must address the shower issue. I weigh 264 lbs and have never had trouble with the showers. You state that you are tall and slim but you had already stated in #6 that you were 181 lbs.
You asked about the soda and they told you they had Coke products. If you do not drink any Coke products why pay for the soda package?
When someone tends to choose to sit alone all the time perhaps they felt they shouldn't bother you so often and that is why they served others first
Perhaps you were as rude to them in person as you are in your 'book' of complaints, and they grew tired of listening to you complain.
The "I am a single 29 year old RN who specializes in helping cancer patients. I only get three weeks off a year (that includes my sick time). I have never traveled anywhere or done anything because I have dedicated myself to helping others." comment was not necessary as many of us work just as hard and care for others but that doesn't give you or anyone the right to treat people so miserably that don't cater to your whining.
Oh and maybe, just maybe if you weren't such a bitch you would have been treated better.
You want a vacation with no kids? Rent a private yacht.
You want to spend your entire vacation alone then why bother booking a cruise? Fly there, see it and fly home.
You want peace and quiet? Stay home.
As a travel agent, I sure hope you didn't use one! You are the type of client that we "bless and release".
Obviously you've never cruised before this. Your expectations are WAY TOO HIGH and "out-of-the-ordinary" demanding. You're NOT the only person on the ship, and your demands and complaints are very petty and ridiculous. There's NEVER a guarantee that there will be other singles on a cruise OR very few children. Given that you chose a summer month to sail (PEAK VACATION SEASON whether land OR sea!!) you should have used common sense in planning if you wanted one or both criteria to be met. And done a considerable amount of research before and after booking, based on the 53 complaints you've lodged against Princess CL.
I truly feel sorry for you as you seem to be a very unhappy, inconsolable person.
Who ever suggested Princess line was less kids must miss the fact that Princess targets family cruising.
Sorry you had a bad cruise. If you ever try cruising again I'd suggest going with a friend and going for a premium line when school is in. If you do not mind a middle aged premium line with less kids I'd suggest Celebrity or if you want very few if any kids and a mature premium line I'd suggest HAL. From the sound of your review mass market regular cruise lines are not for you.
OMG,
1. Please don't cruise again...ever;
2. Did you do ANY research before cruising?
3. Was it REALLY necessary to block copy your entire list of complaints into EVERY category?
Wow. We did the exact same cruise in May/June of this year, just a few weeks before this person. We did not experience any of what she complains about. None. Zip. Perhaps this person ought not be cruising.
Wow, sorry that you had a miserable time but cruising is what you make of it. Have cruised on Sapphire Princess back in 2009, our first cruise, Mexican Riviera, and it was amazing. Can't imagine that Princess has not kept up their level of cruise quality since then. We mainly cruise NCL now but only because we love the Freestyle cruising that they offer. You really should have done some research about cruising before taking your cruise. This site, CruiseCritic.com, CruiseFever.com and even the Princess Cruise Lines sites have a wealth of information about cruise ships and cruising. There are tips, that would have helped you, specifically for first time cruisers. Having your own scale, not cruising during summer months, info about specific shore excursions, tips about dining and traveling alone. We find cruising is the best way to travel and see amazing places. Sure, sometimes things happen that are unexpected but most of it is wonderful. Maybe you should have asked to dine with others. You meet some very nice people that way and don't have to dine alone. °
Could one person seriously have so many bad experiences in just one cruise? I think perhaps that cruising is not for you. It seems to me that you turned what could have been a wonderful vacation into the worst experience ever! The first thing to bring with you on any holiday is a lot of patience and a great deal of gratitude that you are able to enjoy what so many can only dream of. Cruising, like life, is what you make it and I can't help thinking about the following quote: We can either make ourselves miserable or make ourselves happy. The amount of effort involved is the same. I suspect that you chose the former and I feel sad for you that you made that choice.
Reading this "review" (more like a whiny rant) was a bit like watching a car wreck...wanted to look away, but couldn't. A few things:
1. If you don't want to be around kids, don't sail during the summers. That's when pretty much most of the kids in the WORLD are off from school. How do you not know that?
2. A grown woman wearing a tiara at dinner for her birthday is ridiculous and a bit insane. You're not 3 and you're not at DisneyWorld. Seriously....
3. You asked for a SCALE for your luggage? While onboard? Why didn't you figure that out before you left your home? Exactly how many souvenirs did you buy?
4. The ice cream cone complaint is just insane. I can't even.
5. Did it occur to you even ONCE that you were one of 2000 people on that ship, and that the staff had a ton of other people besides you to deal with?
6. Time after time you complain about terrible service from the crew....at some point, you have to wonder if it's you. And it can't be because you are single. That said, if you had done some actual research on cruising as a single person, you would have found out very quickly that Norwegian (in particular, the Epic that sails the Caribbean and the Mediterranean) is one of the best for singles. They have single cabins (which always get raves) and a singles lounge that is well staffed and always has passengers there.
7. I could go on about several more of your ridiculous complaints, but I will say this: even with what I feel are a few legitimate gripes regarding certain things (especially the tours IMO) I have to say that your petty complaints about so many other things make you the "girl who cried wolf". I have a feeling you got "flagged" pretty early on by the staff as a complete pain in the butt. Which is where I feel so much of what you experienced was about your handling of things. I can't think of a better poster child for "first world problems" than your 50+ item temper tantrum.
Do us all a favor and do some actual research on the kind of vacation you want. You clearly found this site to write this long rant- you should have used the time to research your trip ahead of time to get what you wanted out of your vacation.
With all due respect, I totally ignore reviews when they do not offer a balanced perspective. This is nothing more than a diatribe of whining and complaints...much like what she was looking to avoid (did not want to have to deal with the whining, misbehaving or complaining) from children on-board. The few valid complaints she lists got lost in the sea of petty gripes that she spent hours collecting and documenting instead of simply enjoying the cruise. It appears to be her first cruise as she stated that she has never done anything or gone anywhere (that may explain the petty gripes that one finds on all cruiselines), and given her solo status, she may not have had anyone to help her navigate the intricacies of life aboard a cruise ship. That being said, I suspect that she might find that cruising is not for her.
I want to add that I just returned from this cruise and I had an amazing time. I am 42 and I went with my husband.
We really enjoyed it. So I highly recommend this cruise.
Hard to believe that there wasn't one positive thing on this cruise. You were steered in the wrong direction. First, Princess is not a 20- something cruise line. Secondly, Norwegian is a more solo oriented cruise line. Thirdly, traveling at peak summer time will bring out families on ALL lines.
I suggest you stay home in the future travel is not for you. I have traveled the world and yes from time to time you encounter a problem I go with the flow, you seem to find everything is a problem.
Maybe you should stick to land holidays, sounds like you were looking for a free vacation. 16 cruises with Princess and never anything like you are trying to make us believe. The staff are not at your beck and call, you might try helping yourself. Luckily I'm taking this cruise in September and you won't be on it. Some people are just born to complain. If you were hoping to garner any sympathy, you won't get much from cruisers who know how to cruise. It's up to you how your cruise comes out. Stay off cruise ships in the future.
next time Royal Caribbean the second week of September when all the children are back in school even the college kids that's when you go on your cruise Royal Caribbean only
One of my daughters cruised solo when a friend had an emergency and had to cancel last minute. She noticed quite a difference in the way she was treated in comparison to prior cruises. They treated her exceptionally well. They went out of their way to make her cruise memorable. At all times she felt safe, catered to, and respected as a single woman. From dining to spa to excursions, she had no complaints. What a contrast. Sorry you were so miserable.
Sorry Cinderella. After references to Princess, Palace and a Tiara, I think you are living in a dream world. It took longer than MIDNIGHT to get thru your diary. Let me just say, I feel very sorry for those guests that were on your cruise. Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone.
Should one actually believe your account of your trip, it begs the question how can Princess stay in business? Who would ever cruise again given your long list of complaints. Our 20 plus Princess cruises have never had the issues you spoke of.
TL;DR. I sure hope none of your cancer patients are children. No cruise line can ban children although they should consider a ban on whiny adults. Most if not all of your complaints could have been avoided by researching before booking.
Funny that you waited 2 years to do the review (see item #35). Also Vines is a bar not a general store, were you really on this ship? I have always found that crew always treat passengers well when we treat them well, just saying
this time of year kids are out of school and families go on vacation.so more kids.perhaps a adult only resort would be better for you to do.a cruise is what you make it.n it's sad that in a round about way you feel that because you were alone on the cruise is the reason why you were treated badly but maybe it was the non stop complaining that caused you to be treated badly or the fact that they didn't fawn all over you.2000 plus customers on a ship.I think more research would of helped you enjoy your cruise better or a different trip.
I'm ordering a gorgeous bowl of salad next time I cruise and if it isn't on the table already waiting for me, I'm getting a refund of my cruise fare!!!! this girl should do comedy. I was laughing the entire time reading this. Holy hell mother Teresa, don't leave your house. ever!!!!
sounds like the children on you excursion weren't the only ones well versed at whining and complaining. You are literally complaining that the crew wouldn't listen to you complain while complaining about the complaining children. For real?
