Review summary

Great atmosphere on board for Christmas and New Year and loved the destinations. The Captain did a great job with his daily announcements and the build up to Christmas for the children on board. The food was very good and there was a wide selection of drinks. Our favourite place to go for drinks in the evening was the Crow’s Nest on deck 16. Most of the staff were very good, but some were indifferent and uncommunicative. This was a shame as it slightly marred the overall experience.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very fast and efficient from leaving the plane to getting on board ship

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Loved the Epicurean speciality restaurant and the Sindhu. Dined in the Peninsula on freedom dining which was also good food and generous portions. Buffet had a wide selection of food and was always fresh. I did not think the food in the Limelight club was worth the extra cost, despite the entertainment.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pools were crowded on sea days which you would expect, but there were plenty of sunbeds. If you are not a gambler or sports fan there was a very limited number of things to do on board. It was a shame the whole of the large pub was dedicated to sports. It would be better if there was a section for non football fans/ quiet area.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I enjoyed the comedians and loved the band Steele, but thought the main entertainment team in the theatre were mediocre.

Children's Programs

I did not have children on holiday with me

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service was hit and miss. Some staff were fantastic and others were not so good. Some made an extra effort to make us feel welcome and others barely spoke. Three of my breakfast orders were incorrect. We had to wait half an hour for our first drink in the Limelight club, even though we had paid extra for the experience. The staff were indifferent. It was a shame as overall we had a great time, but you had to learn where to go to get the best service.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean apart from the windows. Some furniture was scuffed and worse for wear. You can’t go above deck 7 by stairs in the centre of the ship and below five which was a bit of a pain. The atrium was light and airy and a good place to sit with plenty of seating areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We were originally in A716 on deck 15 but asked to move because of the noise in the early hours from smokers moving chairs around on the deck above. The cabin we were moved to on deck 10 was quieter. The cabin was clean apart from the dirty balcony windows. The shower was a good size and there was plenty of room to store clothes and suitcases.

Ship tip

If you are on freedom dining, once you find an area of the main restaurant where you get good service, ask to go back there each night for dinner.
