Review summary

A very big issue among many cruisers, and we heard this from several ... was the lack of discipline amongst many of their children. There was chasing, yelling and similar inappropriate behavior with ZERO intervention by parents or crew. Waiting for one theatre show to start, some of these kids were sitting up on the stage near the monitors. An unrelated woman went down and told them to get off the stage. Many in the audience applauded her action. There were no ushers at any shows to assist or direct attendees. On more than one occasion there were several children from the same group swimming in the 16 plus only pool with lifeguards doing nothing. This sort of behavior on a cruise is unacceptable and will dissuade many passengers from future sailings with this cruise line.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Quick and efficient until passengers for 3 ships line up for US Customs clearance, which for most was merely scanning passport in a machine. THEY NEED MORE MACHINES.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Overall pretty good. Would have been nice to know prior.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Only used the fitness center, which was good.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Don't usually care for the theatre presentations ... song and dance shows don't interest me. This got a 4 star rating because of a one night performance by The Vegas Tenors, which was the best cruise ship show I have ever seen. They were terrific.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
No kids , no idea.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff friendly and efficient. Only issue is that the staff did not do anything to stop the uncontrolled behavior of many children of a specific group that would run and chase each other in the buffet area, yelling and screaming, with no discipline from guardians .. and staff did nothing. Also, kids were allowed to swim in 16 plus only pool. Lifeguards did nothing.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
No problems. Clean for the most part.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Inside cabin, good size for inside. Clean. Only issue was the sink was in very poor shape. The cabin attendant apologized (she brought it up) and said she had reported it, but I would think the condition had been poor for a long time.

Ship tip

I was told there were about 600 children on board. I believe there was a kids sail free promotion. I would avoid these cruises if you don't have kids with you. There were many who were out of control with no one ... parents nor crew, putting a stop to it.

We were not made aware that the ship would try to get close to the glacier, which it did at about 7:30 am, and we slept through it! It was not announced and was not on activities app. Let people know please!

Juneau, Alaska

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

2 out of 5
Rainy, foggy, cold day. Couldn't get closer than about 5 miles away due to floating ice. Looked like a fog bank in the distance. Nobody's fault, just bad conditions.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were able to carry our luggage, so awoke at 7 and were in an Uber by 8.

With the kids post I thought you were on a summertime carribean cruise. Would not have expected so many kids on an Alaska cruise

We only cruise in the fall and winter. We only see about 2 dozen kids at most! We did go the first week of March this year and while we had a good time, we don't want to cruise during spring break again!

It can be very annoying when one wants to chill and relax, but children of all origins and not just South Asian get over excited when let loose. Inconsiderate Parents are to blame for turning a blind eye in favour of sun and cocktails.

During the summertime, there are always a lot of children on cruise ships around the world. We try hard to cruise only between September to early June when school is in. We even do Alaska late May, early June, to avoid a ship over run with children.

Sorry the children were out of control. I blame parents. Crew is not the babysitter, although parents think they are. I have seen parents all but threaten crew for correcting their children. So, they avoid the confrontation. Good luck on the next cruise!
