An adventure and a half! by Donna2Banks

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura

I have nothing but complete admiration and support for Captain Stephen Howarth as our 2 week med cruise turned into a magical mystery tour. With the Algerian Migrants, a very poorly passenger who needed removing from the ship and unforeseen weather changes that made a day at shore an overnight stay in Monte Carlo! He was informative and kept us in the know alongside his excellent Teams onboard. Azura is still my favourite ship and it has been quite an adventure!

Disappointing but it could be us. by hyacinth54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura / Destination: Europe

Monaco was not shown as a port, I wonder why? Probably due to negative comments expected. Suggest that the only way this should be visited is from villefranch sur mar, or if you can berth here. Cruise lines should not run cruises here on the week of the boat show. There is often tender issues. If you have a lot of people unable to get back on board, there is no hotel spaces to be had. Not sure if it was all the drama and missed or delayed ports. Or too many sea days. Or just us. We didn’t really enjoy this cruise. Second time with P&O and both times it was drama. The ship is in need of a refit. A bit smelly and tatty in places. Of course regulars love this ship, but it was all a bit “keep calm and carry on” I personally found it quite crowded. The crew were amazing on the ship and tender on our return from Monaco. We were on one at about 3pm. It was quite the rollercoaster ride to the ship. But horrendous when trying to get off. The crew were so caring in such difficult circumstances that I was overwhelmed once back on the ship. It was like shock. Whilst I have major sympathy for those left onshore, no sympathy was given to the people on the tenders who had a bad ordeal apart from the security staff who told us to go and rest! We just all got given a letter in our cabin telling us to claim missed ports from our insurance companies. Oh, and then P&O jetted in the Overtones and Beverley Craven to entertain us for the last couple of evenings to patronisingly make us feel better.!! So I am sure there will be people who will look at my review and instantly stick up for P&O it isn’t for me. I will commend the captain and crew who were amazing and heroic. But HQ needs to be a bit more aware.

Fantastic Cruise on P&O Azura by Bathurst

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura

We had 19 days onboard Azura, there was a slight change to the itinerary, so we did not get to Mykonos but got to go to Crete instead. Not a disappointment at all.

Norway in the sun by angelikavienna

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura

We’ve just disembarked from the Azura and here are a few thoughts. We loved every minute on our Norway cruise. Cabins .... beautiful and ample space , we had a balcony on deck 14 near a pool. Very quiet! Kids on the ship.... lovely and well behaved, a pleasure to be around them, they all seem to love the kids club even the teenagers. Food.... we only ate in the Oriental and peninsular restaurants . Lovely food mostly, Cunard food was nicer, but plenty of choice and good quality. The buffet is busy. Drinks... we had a wine package, that was good value for money, other drinks cost about £ 7 Pools... yes we had gorgeous weather, the oasis pool is quietest. Plenty of sun beds, the retreat, which you have to pay for uses that pool and in my opinion is probably only worth it on a cruise to a very hot climate as there isn’t much shade about. Entertainment.... headliners theatre group were fantastic, west end style shows, other highlights were silk and beats, the one comedian wasn’t so funny Shore excursions.... for some people and some places they might be the best thing to do. In Norway and for us, reasonably able bodied I did think they were a rip-off. For example the Flåm train. £ 98 each with a booked P&O excursion, £ 90 for two people booked directly on the train. There was a lot of scaremongering about missing the ship. Well you are on exactly the same train as the excursion. It’s literally two minutes walk from the ship that’s towering over that tiny village. How could one miss it? Service.... everybody worked so hard and all the waiters and stewards made you feel special. The dress code... we like to dress to impress on a cruise, but you didn’t have to. On the two formal nights everyone did wear evening dresses and dinner suits. I even saw a little boy in one. Those people, who didn’t fancy that, just ate in the buffet. The infamous smell... yes around deck 7 by the Malabar and Sindhu restaurant it was bad. We called it the smellybar. We couldn’t smell it anywhere else and it didn’t bother us, just walked a bit faster through this area. The decor .... some people on this chat claimed the Azura was in desperate need of refurbishment. We didn’t feel that, she’s a beautiful ship ! Embarkation and disembarkation.... very well organised! To sum it up, we had a great time, as we cruised on Cunard before, we weren’t disappointed, but I suppose everything is maybe just one notch up on the QM2. I must emphasise though how much we enjoyed ourselves and as we’re leaving, we are already looking for the next cruise adventure.

Wonderful fjord cruise by Midge57

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Azura / Destination: Scandinavia

Excellent cruise to the fjords of Norway. In three of the destinations we had exceptional sunny weather of between 25 & 27 degrees, with only one stop suffering from rain. The only problem being we had packed for cold weather. All in all though, a brilliant holiday, and thoroughly recommended.

First proper cruise, but not our last! A bit late to the party as cruise was last August but only just downloaded app! Haven’t got a bad word to say about the cruise or the ship, we absolutely loved it and have booked another P&O cruise for 2021.

Hot Western med cruise by cheston

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura / Destination: Europe

P&O give you really a good cruising experience. Entertainment for all types of cruisers. Our daughter, husband and grandson first time cruisers loved it. All the ports had something to offer. Restaurants, bars all offer a different experience. Everything you needed could be found on board.

Fab cruise! by Karriejay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura / Destination: Europe

Overall a great cruise! The staff work incredibly hard, and it would be nice if there were tip collection points in place perhaps now that gratuities are no longer in place. Perhaps in reception at the end of the cruise? There were a few discrepancies in the rules over dress codes, and not all staff seemed to be aware of the rules regarding the drinks package either. There seemed to be a lot of teenagers on this cruise who virtually took over the jacuzzis and pools meaning nobody else could use them, yet nobody challenged this. The pool attendant at one point simply turned away when one teen decided to start bombing into the pool. MInor issues, but irritating just the same!

As committed sun and sand cruisers, this was a first for us. A beautiful cruise with amazing scenery and interesting routes through tight fjords. The ship was fun and friendly, would recommend this cruise to all.

Fantastic trip with a few exciting times by sidekick180

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura / Destination: Europe

Relaxing, enjoyable but not without incident. Heavy weather through Bay of Biscay, Medivac helicopter for poorly passenger and two early morning wake up calls from the captain. Apart from that, a lovely cruise. Excellent entertainment, superb food.

Excellent cruise from start to finish, staff are very friendly, ship is kept spotless and our daughter loved the kids club. The food in the Meridian restaurant was AMAZING so we didn’t eat at any of the specialty restaurants. Really enjoyed Brodie’s as it had a nice atmosphere.

Fantastic cruise, but with a few hiccups! by sidekick180

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azura / Destination: Europe

Overall, a fantastic experience. We did go through a storm in BoB on our way back and although the captain had changed his route to avoid the worst, it was still pretty exciting. 70mph side winds and 30 foot waves. We also had a Medivac at 5am one morning and another morning we were woken up very early with the Spanish army boarding to carry out an exercise. Again, all very exciting. Would love to book again on Azura, but haven't seen any itineraries that we would like, so we have booked Ventura for July 2020. THE DATE ON THIS REVIEW IS INCORRECT! It was 4th May for 7 nights, this option was not available on the drop down list when I was writing the review.
