Review summary

Overall, a fantastic experience. We did go through a storm in BoB on our way back and although the captain had changed his route to avoid the worst, it was still pretty exciting. 70mph side winds and 30 foot waves. We also had a Medivac at 5am one morning and another morning we were woken up very early with the Spanish army boarding to carry out an exercise. Again, all very exciting. Would love to book again on Azura, but haven't seen any itineraries that we would like, so we have booked Ventura for July 2020. THE DATE ON THIS REVIEW IS INCORRECT! It was 4th May for 7 nights, this option was not available on the drop down list when I was writing the review.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the MDR the first night we used it was just average, but as the nights went by, the food seemed to improve. The food on the last night that we used the MDR was fantastic. We didn't use the speciality restaurants, but we did use the buffet several times and found that to be fine, with a good selection of food.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Not interested in learning how to waltz, so it would be nice if there was something else on offer, rather than just dance lessons. Maybe there were other things available but we just didn't know about them.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Couldn't fault the entertainment at all, apart from the female singer that was part of the band in the venue at the middle of the ship. The band were fine, but the singer seemed to be struggling to remember her words and she seemed to be reading all the songs from an ipad or something. It was more like watching a karaoke singer. having sid that, it was quite entertaining watching her mess up.

Children's Programs

Didn't have any children with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service was generally very good. My only criticism would be the amount of time we had to wait for some bar staff to recognise that we were waiting for drinks, and then how long it took them to return with our drinks once we had placed our orders.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The layout was fine and very similar to Ventura, which was good for us because we had sailed on Ventura the previous year. There were areas of the ship that looked a bit worse for wear, but what would you expect from a ship that carries so many thousands of people every day and every year from one refit to the next. Didn't bother us at all because it felt lived in.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
A little bit worn in places, but generally quite clean. We did have a few issues with out balcony door, which seemed to give off a high pitch whistle when it was open and when it was closed you could hear the wind coming through the frame because the sealant was missing in places. We didn't bother complaining because we were only in there to sleep and it was only a minor niggle.

Ship tip

Take full advantage of all the shows, front, back and middle of the ship. If you go for freedom dining, you can actually time it perfectly to go from one show to the next, with drink stops in between.

Ports of call

Cherbourg

Arrived on a Sunday and most places were closed!!

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Quite a bit of a wait, but to be honest, we didn't really want to get off the ship anyway.
