Review summary

It was nice to back on a ship after a few years if doing other things. The people we met and the laughs we had will be experiences we will remember. The only downside was 8 sea days which was too much for us.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and painless, arrived an hour before our due time expecting to wait an eternity but they called us through before we even had time to queue for a drink. Very slick and efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Being a couple on freedom dining, we wanted a table for two. Most nights we were given a pager and had to wait around 20-30 min. We had no issues with this at all. We ate in the main dining room most breakfast and evening and had a few lunch time visits. The staff were all lovely and polite and could not be faulted. The wine steward however, came once, was very slow with the drinks and was virtually impossible to get hold of for a refill / 2nd drink. The food often lacked any real flavour or depth. I suppose this is the result of mass catering being suitable for everyone

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Enjoyed the quiz in brodies every day, always something to do.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Found the entertainment team somewhat dull and uninteresting. Lacked motivation and enthusiasm. Stage shows a letdown on previous years, the strictly entertainment was poor, lisa Riley is lovely to talk to and really nice but cringeworthy on stage hosting this event. Musicians were all good, plenty of choice of where to see something. What it needed was more diversity, they all played similar songs. How about a rock band?

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Staff were all good and worked hard!!! I had a real issue with policies not being policed though. We saw smoking out on deck in non smoking areas and the staff didn’t say anything. Sun bed hogging is a major problem. We saw one family of 6 not only command 6 sunbeds, they also claimed the table behind them near the bar!!!!! Again the staff did nothing and one even said, you need to get here early- this despite the sunbeds being empty for 2 hours.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ships layout is fine. Easy to navigate around. It is starting to look its age now but I’m aware its booked in for a refit so will be good as new again when done

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was great, partial obstruction but exactly as we booked. Fantastic location for everything

Ship tip

Get to the muster point early if you want a seat, they will all be gone if you wait for the alarm to sound

Ports of call

Cadiz (Spain)

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Did Rome on our own on the train, effortless and cheap. Saw some of the main sites but not much time to really explore.

Florence/Pisa

5 out of 5
Florence is a beautiful place and a must. Blown away by the buildings. We went on the train and it was around an hour away. Walked round and enjoyed it. Stopped and had the best pizza I’ve ever had in one of the main squares

Gibraltar (U.K.)

4 out of 5
Great port but would like more than half a day. Walked to the cable car and went up the mountain £32 for the 2 of us. Duty free is cheap only on certain items, some were cheaper-on board

Cartagena, Spain

4 out of 5
Lovely to walk round and enjoy

Southampton (London), England

Barcelona, Spain

Disembarkation

Very easy, we changed our time for an earlier one and made it off with little fuss
