Review summary

We had a wonderful time on our Norway cruise, I highly recommend this cruise. My recommendation is to make sure you plan ahead. Coming from the U.S., there are a lot of logistics to put together.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Royal Caribbean just has this down pat. Each cruise we have taken with them has been the fastest embarkation we have experienced across 5 different lines.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We mainly ate dinner in the main dining room “Silk”. The food was good and our service was great. Our waiter Jeronimo and assistant waiter Ganesh were top notch. We ate dinner one night at Chops and it was good but not great. Lunch at Jaime’s Italian was fabulous. The food was very good and the service very good as well. We tried breakfast in the buffet as well as the main dining room. I would both were good but we preferred the main dining room.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
A good variety of things to do on this ship. I really enjoyed the Solarium and the indoor pool area. It wasn’t necessarily freezing cold out on this cruise but it nice to have the option of an indoor pool. We went on the North Star on embarkation day and that was pretty cool. The 80’s party in 270 was awesome.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the comedian and also most of the music onboard. We watched the reggae band Tropical Fusion several times.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff on the ship was great. From the waiters to the bartenders to the managers and everyone in between.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was constantly being cleaned and maintained. Staff does a good job and ensuring no mess or trash is left about.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
A really nice starboard side balcony cabin. Plenty of room and we had 3 people. This balcony was especially nice because it was on the section of ship that sits out a bit further on side so we saw water looking straight down as well.

Ship tip

Book the North Star on embarkation day or port days as it’s free. They charge a fee on sea days. It is a longer experience but about $90 pp

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

4 out of 5
Stayed one night here before the cruise. Seemed like an average port city. A word of caution is the hotels don’t normally have AC unless you get a 5 star hotel. We didn’t hang around in Southampton much though, we spent most of the day in Salisbury visiting Stonehenge and the Salisbury Cathedral. An easy 30 min train ride but well worth it. A lot to do up there.

Flaam, Norway

5 out of 5
Flåm was really cool. The Flamsbana train was great. The stop at the waterfall halfway up was impressive. It takes you up to the Vatnahalsen Hotell, where we were served waffles with jelly and sour cream. The scenery up there is amazing. My advice here would be to book this through the train company as the cruise ship excursion was packed and they slightly overbooked it. Was tight in our car. The station is a five minute walk from the ship. There is a zipline too which we didn’t do but looked incredible. Those that did it say you rent a bike at the end of it and ride down. For beer drinkers don’t miss the Aegir brewery, get a flight and sit in the beer garden.

Stavanger, Norway

5 out of 5
Stavanger was a very cool town. We decided on the Rodne Forge cruise that took us into the Lysefjords. We got to see beautiful waterfalls and Pulpits rock from water level. This was a great experience. Walked around the town after this and took in the sites and did a little shopping.

Olden, Norway

5 out of 5
We did the Loen Skylift. This is the most amazing experience I have had. Absolutely beautiful up there and the journey up and down on the lift is incredible. We booked with Olden Adventures and were in a small group first up the mountain. Highly recommend booking with them as you will be in a much smaller group.

Disembarkation

Walked right off when we went down. Again, Royal has this down.
