Review summary

Definitely recommend Anthem of the Seas. I would recommend doing it out of holiday season though so you are able to do all the activities without having to wait in hour long lines. Clean and beautiful ship.

Embarkation

Having done all the prebooking and printouts, the embarkation was quick and painless.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was great, certainly something for everyone. We also ate in two speciality restaurants, Wonderland and Jamies. Wonderland was quite an experience that we all enjoyed. The food was definitely different and probably not to everyones tastes but just trying all the different foods was an experience in itself. Our teenagers were quite enamored ! The hard work put in by the waiters, chefs and everyone in the food department is very clear and we appreciated it all. Everyone was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I have only one negative and that is that the smell in the main restaurants (Americal Icon Grille and Silks) was awful. I cannot quite explain it but having worked in a restaurant myself, I can only compare it to the smell of a kitchen (not the nice aroma kind of smell though)...... we all smelled it and as a result ate here only twice, preferring the speciality restaurants and Windjammer buffet instead.

Onboard Activities

Fantastic, always something on the go. That being said however, if you hadn't prebooked everything, you might not have the same opinion. I had prebooked shows prior to the cruise - so we were lucky enough to get to see them all with exception of "The gift" that was cancelled twice due to the weather and safety of the entertainers. North Star and ifly however could not be prebooked and we could only do so on the day of boarding. We boarded the boat at 12h30 and I went directly to the area where they were taking bookings and managed to get the very last bookings for both these activities. There were A LOT of very unhappy passengers who did not get to book these. My advise, board as early as possible and head straight to the area where they are taking the bookings, do not wait or you will be disappointed. That being said it was spring break, so I am guessing the cruise was probably a lot fuller than usual. ifly was fantastic ! Sadly due to the weather and it being the second last time for the North Star (the night before we arrived back in Port Liberty) - we were not able to do it. It looked wonderful though. One dissappointment however, was the fact that the Solarium (16 +) area was booked for private functions on 3 different occasions. One being Star Jones wedding. But I don't care who you are, this should not be allowed. This was terribly frustrating for us all. The ship was SO busy and with very few "quiet" areas on the ship, we really enjoyed this space so it was irritating to have it closed on so many occasions. There is a conference room on board - this should be used for private functions not areas that we all pay for and would like to use.

Incredible, I cannot fault these hardworking individuals who were always friendly and with a smile. A special shoutout to our cabin attendant Teralina who was truly amazing. Thank you !

Ship Quality

We always found the ship to be spotless and clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

Wow this was a treat ! We had an oceanview cabin in the front of the ship. We didn't care much for a balcony since we would only have 2 or 3 days of warm weather, so this was the next best otion. The window was huge and it was awesome to see whatever the captain was seeing.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

Not much to say about the port - unless you head into New York ....

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
Not much at this port but we rented a vehicle and drove to "midway airboats" - about half hour drive from port. This was a fantastic tour and highly recommended. We saw tons of alligators.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island) Did not visit port

Sadly due to the weather we were not able to tender and visit this port. The ship went on to Nassau instead

Nassau, Bahamas

Did not like this port at all. In the future I will stay away from all cruises which have Nassau on it's itinerary. It was dirty and really nothing to see here. We were not going to pay $175 for a few hours at the water park ! Spent half a day at "Blue Lagoon" and this was nice ..... if it wasn't for this excursion I would have rated it 1.
